- Now that "No Time To Die" has had time to settle I figured it was time to do another full series ranking but where does the latest Bond film sit and how much have the others moved around over the last few years? Watch to find out...

The only man that would rank Moonraker over Casino Royale, Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me. I don't agree with you, but I still love your videos, Calvin. Never change.
I also appreciate how absurd that is. As far as the books go though, Moonraker is perhaps my favorite of the Fleming novels, so that’s at least something haha
This channel has no credibility with it's rankings. Utter garbage.
If the next Bond film doesn't have Bond making a joke about dying then the franchise will be dead.
"The next Bond film"? It's interesting how many people think the series is coming back. If it does, the next movie will be made by someone other than EON productions. And that's one big "if."
@@LeonWick526 If Bond movies didn't make a good amount of money then sure, they probably wouldn't come back, but they still make good money and sometimes break the $1 billion mark. Movie studios aren't giving up on a billion dollar franchise until several movies make sub $100m in a row.
@@AFGuidesHD Yes, but Barbara and Michael have done nothing for Bond 26. They say that they need time to reinvent the series but that's taking way longer than it should. Also, No Time To Die lost $100 million at the box office.
There will be another 007 film. It will also be a reboot again, very much like the Craig bond films.
@@LeonWick526 It'll be back eventually. Bond movies have lost money before, and they've taken long hiatuses before, so it'll be picked back up at some point. It's also a big thing in british culture, so there will be a lot of people willing to make it happen.
Refreshing to see the honesty of having Moonraker as your #2. Too many people give into pressure from "critics" and "experts" to the point where everyone's movie lists become inauthentic but sometimes you just like something and you shouldn't have to defend or justify why. Moonraker is the flagship film of this channel and I think this list now accurately represents Calvin in all his glory
Moonraker is such an entertaining film where all the 007 tropes are perfectly executed.
Moonraker was a massive hit back in 1979 and it outgrossed all of the 80's Bond films.
Totally agree with everyone's love of Moonraker. It's an enjoyable watch every time. It's TSWLM but bigger and better.
I recently responded to a post on Facebook with people's Bond rankings and I was derided so hard for really enjoying TMWTGG and AVTAK. Made me think I won't be sharing that info again
I love all lists, they're all so unique and one thing about them that we all agree on is that we love the series. If someone wants to love Spectre or Diamonds then I'm just happy they're happy
While I thoroughly dislike Moonraker, I do admire Calvin for sticking to his guns and loving it unabashedly.
The first part of Living Daylights for me is the perfect Bond film. Proper 80s Cold War espionage.
Yes! I myself am a historian. Its one of the quitessential cold war films to me. Its so well made and very popular in eastern europe and Russia
I can't believe Calvin put it so low on the rankings. It's my second favourite after For Your Eyes Only.
Its mainly the second half that drags really. Shame too@dominicsantiago8177
@@dominicsantiago8177 Oh you are the same as me. Love the cold war thriller films! FYEO is my favourite bond film with OHMSS, TLD, LTK and FRWL being close behind!
@@EAO_Wadsy In that case, we are very similar. Yep, I would definitely put both OHMSS and FRWL very high in my rankings. But I've never been a big fan of LTK. Although I haven't seen it in forever, so I must give it another chance. I really enjoy Timothy Dalton as Bond.
I can’t believe it’s almost been 5 years since the last ranking. Super excited to see how the list has changed since then!
Also, admit it, when you started watching the list your first thought was "is Skyfall still number one or has GoldenEye retaken that spot?"
Sean Bean in his Sharpe Handsworth accent. Sheffields finest.
Do you agree with the list?

Great reworking of your ranking Calvin! I too absolutely love to watch other people's rankings, listen to the reasoning, and then agree or disagree and this was such a joy to watch!! (Props for the creation of this, I know exactly what time and energy goes into it!)
I can't help but compare our similarities and differences. For one, we are exactly on the same page with TSWLM, GF, YOLT, TWINE, TND, GE - we're the same generation, so I share the same nostalgia for Brosnan. I also have those 3 of his films in my top 10. Heck, GoldenEye has my number 2 spot! I can appreciate your praise for DAD, which I also remember liking as a kid when it came out, at 12 years old. I can also get into your love for Moonraker, and I LOVE that LTK is going up on your list! (My favorite)
We are opposites when it comes to LALD, DAF, OHMSS which you are more positive on, and SP, FYEO and TLD I am a bit more positive towards.
As for NTTD, I think I ranked that at number 18 and we are very much on the same page with that one too!
Very fun to compare! 👏🏼
Well jeron when are we having a new video?
1) I got few topics like ranking if bond allies and whose death was more effective?
2) your ranking of each of the soundtrack bond films till nttd.
My man! Always great to hear from you Jeroen. Your revisited series are the best and most polished. Here's to a great 2024 good sir 🍸
What I love about Bond is the always different ranking lists. Someone's least favorite can be someone's favorite. So many flavors of British cinema on display over the course of 60 year and 25 films.
Bond’s really an interesting case because most franchises get up to a few films and then just kind of die and get rebooted about twenty or thirty years later, with Bond they’ve been consistently going for over 60 years. Far from just being a franchise now, it’s a part of history and a way of seeing how different generations tackled the same basic character and story.
@@samuelbarber6177 There's also echoes of life and societal changes too, which makes them time capsules. Just rewatched Living D and you totally get a sense of pre fall Cold War.
Die Another Day has gotten higher on my list too. But I feel like Brosnan’s Bond Films are becoming more loved because of the fatigue of the Craig Era and the dour ending.
Honestly. Critically his films are some of the most maligned but I think those of us who grew up in the early 2000’s know that Goldeneye and TWINE are god-tier Bond films. Another thing that Pierce has going for him is that he is the Bond who is the face of Bond video games. Goldeneye 64, Nightfire, Everything or Nothing. That’s why I think his legacy has such staying power with Millenials and Gen Z (such as myself).
For 50 years, they've followed a pattern of switching between serious and camp whenever they change Bond actors (campy Moore followed by serious Dalton followed by campy Brosnan followed by serious Craig), so it seems like a guarantee that the next Bond actor will mark a return to humor and outlandish plots.
Watching the whole series for the first time I find it hard to swallow Die another day high on a list that movie tainted the bond well for years I genuinely found it embarrassing I felt so bad for Pierce especially with Goldeneye being so good and tomorrow never dies being better than I think people give it credit for he deserved a better send off, as a fan of Craigs movies excluding Quantum I'll take dour any day over Gustav Graves.
@@adamcammack3534 I watched it a few months ago, I just couldn't get over how ridiculous Graves looked in that suit towards the end. He looked like a Marvel franchise villain.
Also, just how does Graves go from not existing to being famous enough to be knighted by Queen in 18 months?
To me, brosnan films are thriving but it's mostly at the cost of roger moore and Sean Connery
Calvin we rarely agree on anything; every time I go right, you go left. But I always tune into your channel because your enthusiasm and love for the character is always a great thing to behold! Keep up the good work
Thanks so much for that, Mickey! I really appreciate it 😁😁😁
Fair play for holding me for an hour watching a video you've already made. You've really honed your talent for writing and presenting your thoughts
I love seeing Die Another Day get higher on your list. Despite the problems with that movie, it is one of my favorites! I also love seeing License to Kill just outside your top 10.
With the world of not enough being my favourite bond film, seeing it so high makes me very happy.
I remember getting into bond as a teen, years ago and watching your rankings. Like a nice warm nostalgia in itself
I found your channel literally last week, after finally making the jump to watch all 25, so you can imagine my luck seeing you upload a full ranking, mere days after finding your channel
Shedding a tear as my favorite Bond TH-camr who I’ve watched for 10+ years now has Moonraker as a Top 2 in common in our respective rankings. Thanks for all the amazing content over the years Calvin - Well, here’s to us!
When Moonraker got ranked higher than Skyfall I nearly spat out my drink 😂😂😂
Heavily agree with your assessment of "No Time To Die". For about two thirds of the film, this is up there with my absolute favorites! Everything from Madeira, to Jamaica, Cuba and London I adore and love to rewatch! Even the (predictable) twist of Mathilde is adorable! But starting with the Norwegian forest fight, the movie just goes completely off the rails and enters the deepest depths of cringe. Never seen a movie evoking such starkly conflicting emotions in me. 😄
honestly, the worst thing the film did was to tie itself to the rotting corpse that was the last film. that immediately put it at a severe disadvantage. but there were other problems:
1) casting a black woman as "007". i know how that sounds, but my gripe with it is that i think it was done just to fulfill some diversity quota, to satisfy the wokies. it doesn't play an important part in the story. if she'd been 008 instead, i'd have no problem. but doing this just to do it seems phony and inauthentic.
2) i didn't buy the romance with madeline in spectre and i don't buy it here. there's very little about the way they interact that suggests she should be this important to him. with vesper it was believable. with madeline, it isn't.
3) bond dies. i feel this is something you should only do if you're dead certain this will be the last film in the series.
also, the villain was rather lackluster and it had the gloomy feel that all the craig films do. he should have quit after skyfall because the series has not had an original thought since.
to me, this ranks below every film but spectre. i'd even put thunderball's 1983 bastard child ahead of it. at least that had fatima and mr. bean in it.
@@doaftheloaf 1. It is an important part of the story [and frankly would have the same beats if a white male was playing the role]. Bond has retired and MI6 is not sentimental about it. They replaced him and the replacement is an upstart who doesn't respect Bond and is proud of taking the number, hence why there fighting on the opposite side in the Cuba mission. However, there character arc is them gaining respect for Bond who's shown he's still a valuable agent coming out of retirement, hence why by the time of the third act, they've gained respect for him-handing the 007 number back to him, fighting by his side while Bond shows he respects them as he trust them to look after his family and help them escape.
@@doaftheloaf NTTD was doomed from the start as a direct sequel to Spectre and retconning all of Craig's films as one continuity.
@@jamesatkinsonja she gives the number back before long. it doesn’t really go anywhere. and she’s not a bad character; it just bugs me that they made it a black woman simply to tick that box on the diversity checklist. so they could say they made 007 a black woman.
@@JarJarBinks4ever it didn’t work in spectre, let’s do it again!
Controversial list but you can 101% explain your choices very thoroughly and for a Bond die hard, I can't help but concurrently agree.
Not wanting to live in a world without Moonraker is one of the nicest things I've ever heard anyone say about the film, so wholesome
So awesome to see the updated ranking! Goldfinger was my favorite for ages, though now I think The Living Daylights may have just taken its place. Similar to YOLT and Octopussy, it's a film that just gets better and better every time I see it. Glad to see I'm not the only one who changes their mind on these things. ^_^
It's always nice to see your appreciation for TWINE. It's honestly one of my most revisited bonds. I just love the characters. Pierce is top notch, sophie marceau played a terrific villain/faux bond girl, I love seeing robbie coltrane (RIP) as valentin back and given more to do, renard is formidable and a good red herring, and xmas jones is not awful lol
Top 5 Bond films for me are...
5. You Only Live Twice
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
3. From Russia with Live
2. Tomorrow Never Dies
1. Licence to Kill
Also Diamonds are Forever is my absolute favourite Bond film to watch on a Sunday afternoon. Just putting that out there.
Don't really get love for Lazenby (too bland though he has moments especially the romance) or Dalton (too dry and also brutal with almost no charm).
@@suarezguy What bro? On Her Majesty's Secret Service and both Dalton Bond films are easily in the top 10.. To each his own
I always wonder why people try to discount their experiences or nostalgia for a film when they rank them. Surely how you relate to a film personally is the most important thing when ranking them. Love to see Moonraker at 2.
Thank you for your videos - it is a truly trying time for us Bond fans 😔
So exited to check this ranking out it’s been 5 long years and we are finally full circle!
As a decent bond fan, I came for your agent under fire and nightfire playthurs and reviews but now I’m staying for movies and books. Spot on my friend keep it up!
The big one's here! Still remember when the previous ranking of all movies released. Excited to see what changed and what hasn't!
Long time fan. Love your work, Calvin.
I disagree with almost every position (some more, some less)... But this ranking does transpire so much love, personality and honesty that I could watch it over and over again without any signal of tireness, or rather with an always increasing concern.
Extremely interesting the comparison with the 2019-ranking.
For me, your very best video along with the one about the Bond directors.
I love a good ranking! Cheers Calvin and Happy New Year to all Bond fans.
TWINE always ranked near the top of my list. People who act like the movie is completely sunk because of Denise Richards are ridiculous. In recent years I think Goldeneye has overtaken it, because I feel it fizzles out a bit near the end, but it's still near the top for me.
Also, your #2 pick didn't surprise me knowing what you like in your Bond films, and it was also the first non-theatrical Bond film I ever saw, and finally, in my own recent personal rankings I've determined I agree with your #1.
Die Another Day, Diamonds are Forever, Quantum of Solace, The Man with the Golden Gun and View to a Kill need more love out there. They all have their fans, but they need a bit more appreciation.
I too have a soft spot for TMWTGG. Never understood the hate it gets.
Quantum is the one I do find defending more, especially as it went though a hellish production so the end product is a 'damage limitation' exercise, but it does have it's moments and some of the plot threads in Skyfall [M+Bond's relationship, M's decision making being under pressure] are actually set up in that film.
They mostly get love from me. Diamonds is in my top 2 (never sure which) and I love Golden Gun and View to a Kill. Truly, I can only say I like Quantum but I rate Die Another Day in my bottom 5. My worst by a long shot is Spectre. It was so bad that I decided to stop watching Bond at that point, having loved the series since my first, Goldfinger.
I think I had NTTD in 18th last I checked. Spectre and Quantum were 24th and 25th, respectively. So we are pretty much lockstep with those. I’ve really grown to resent the Craig era. Casino and Skyfall are wonderful films, but the timeline as a whole has been very lacklustre for me. Kudos on Moonraker being so high. Definitely the superior Moore film!
I'd recommend watching them in a row as you pick up a lot more of the story that way as it is a 5 film arc.
Calvin! Did you know the Bond 50/Ultimate Bond Collections from the USA were superior to the UK ones? Because on the USA set, every film had the superior original mono tracks which are better than the newer 5.1 soundtracks. On the UK set only about half the films have the mono soundtracks.
Just listen to the mono tracks on Dr No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball… they sound so much better.
Sucks the UK got screwed especially as Bond is a British institution. Looks like I’ll have to import a US Bond collection
Happy New Year Calvin! Cannot wait to watch this in full, but after a quick preview I can confirm I’m also a Brosnan lover and my nostalgia for TWINE is up there with yours. First one I ever saw at the cinema with my Dad. Spy Who Loved me and Goldeneye are also in my top 5 and I have a lot of love for Live & Let Die also as it’s the first one I taped off ITV. Blew my mind when I saw the uncut version years later on VHS! Goldfinger is my number 1, it really is a stone cold Classic! Keep up the good work Sir 👍🏻🤵🏻♂️🇬🇧💥🎬
You very nearly lost me by putting TLD so low Calvin, but you totally redeemed yourself with TWINE at 5. My first cinematic Bond and I was obsessed with it from '99 to '02. I will never not love it, well played sir :)
Your videos are soo good! I think it’s the combination of bond knowledge and your very funny dialogue
The World is Not Enough - Yes! That film i was dreading when I was rewatching during the lockdown era and I was very surprised to quite enjoy it. Maybe not enough to put top 5 , but easily my second favoeite brosnan flick.
I recently watched all twenty five Bond films in release date order to try a ranking. Took a week. In attempting objectivity, I set a list of criterion, Story, Bond performance, Bond girl, Villain, Supporting characters, Production, Special effects, Score, Titles, Song. Ten categories, each marked out of ten for an overall percentage. I might have chosen other criteria, but these gave a good over view. Not to bore anyone with the list, here are my top ten - 10. A View to a Kill (83), 9. Spectre (84), 8 The Living Daylights (85), 7. Die Another Day (85), 6. Quantum of Solace (86), 5. You Only Live Twice (88), 4. Casino Royale (89), 3. From Russia With Love (90), 2. Tomorrow Never Dies (91), 1 On Her Majesty's Secret Service (92)
interesting method! could you post your scores in each of those categories for Living Daylights? thanks!
The Craig Bond is, as Robert Meyer Burnett would say, the only Bond that doesn’t want to be Bond. He’s constantly quitting and going off on his own. Ironically No Time to Die is the one film where I saw his Bond change that tune, though it does other characters dirty (I’m looking at you, Felix).
The bond of the books didn't love parts of his job-he hates killing in cold blood for example. Dalton's Bond also shared this sentiment 'If M fires me, I'll thank him for it'. The 'literacy' Bond is very different from the wise cracking film version.
Was about to go to bed until I saw there was a new Calvin Dyson ranking! But what is one less hour of sleep?
Die Another Day was my intro to the franchise and I would watch it with my Mum everytime it aired on television.
I can't hate it, it's goofy but fun and entertaining
Golden eye 👁️ is my favorite bond film 📽️ too so dang good 😊
Calvin in 4K 🙈
I'll have to see if I can upgrade to 3D next!

Die Another Day will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the first Bond film I ever remember watching. I used to watch it before bed almost every night, so much so that I burned out the VHS tape.

AfterNTTD I have completely turned on Craig
I feel he gave the fans the big double bird
I have not watched it seen the theater and don’t see that changing

The interesting thing about this series is that it offers a large diversity of styles/feels that ultimately give us all such unique opinions of the films. It is interesting to see what you enjoy in these films and compare it to what I enjoy. Ultimately, I can say that this list did not match at all with my own, or honestly, many others I have seen. But it was still an interesting watch, thank you for sharing.
Oh what a way to start off 2024. Shaking up a martini now... thank you Calvin!
Goldeneye was my first Bond film and I'm so glad I never saw the trailers for it before the film or know anything about it. The name Bond seemed vaguely familiar, but I didn't even know the previous films existed. I was at a hotel party and we rented it late one night. I was enthralled by every moment of it and is still my favorite of them all.
Diamonds Are Forever was my first James Bond movie. I watched it on TV.
Love the video! Here's an idea for a future video.. a list ranking the movies by importance (did well at the box office, made Bond popular again, etc etc). It would still be subjective, but with some objectivity thrown in as well. Cheers!
I couldn't disagree with you more and I couldn't have more fun doing so! It is extraordinary how we differ in our assessment of the movies. The deciding factor seems to always be which Bond you saw first. Your Bond is Brosnan. Mine is Connery and yet we both love Moore! We are similarly sceptical about everyone else. Great channel. Thoroughly enjoying working through your videos.
Thanks so much, Mat! Very kind of you to comment and very happy that you’re enjoying the channel 😁😁
I cannot stand the fact that Diamonds are forever and Die Another Day are higher than For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights and No time to Die
Loving the love for The World is Not Enough!
Great honest list. Not everyone will agree. But as I always say there is something for everyone to enjoy in the series, and it even caters for ones changing tastes!
Calvin, the bottom of your list contains a couple of my absolute favorites. While I disagree with your placement versus where I would put them, your reasoning is so well thought out and explained perfectly that I can do nothing else but respect your thoughts completely. This is how I know that your channel is my absolute favorite on TH-cam. Thank you for another great video and I am looking forward to continuing to follow you throughout 2024 and beyond!
Also your love for Moonraker has caused me to re-evaluate the film, and it is now also one of my favorites in the series!

I'm so happy to see you rank GoldenEye number one. I agree that it's more "Bond" esc than Casino Royale is, even though the later is usually ranked higher on lists.
The Living Daylights is essentially FRWL but set in the 80's. It's up there with CR and OHMSS for me.
What a coincidence -- Moonraker is also my 2nd favorite 1970's spy film co-starring Michael Lonsdale!
Skyfall and Casino Royale are fantastic films!
What fun! I love how you put this together, especially the visual gags. Production aside, there is still enough high-level content to ensure your usual quality endeavour. Interesting to see how some movies moved in your overall ranking. It's probably been as many years since I've attempted a Bond ranking so maybe over Winter, I'll sit down, crank up the popcorn and rewatch the series. As you say, it might be a few years before something new comes on our screens.
Great job, Calvin!
Thanks very much, Dean! This one took a good while to put together so I'm very happy to hear you thought it was well put together and the visual gags worked :) Much appreciated!
Totally agree with you regards The World is not Enough - great fun plot, Brosnan's best performance, Marceau is superb - deserves more love.
28:36 to 29:15 is worthy of an “TH-cam movie review”-Oscar! What energy and spirit you produce; what an elegant, on-the-spot and exciting summary of one of the best segments in Bond-dom. With ruthlessly rapid delivery keeping us on edge, I’m breathless! (If Hitchcock had directed online movie rankings before retiring, it would be this!)
Also at 29:34 all enthusiasts of champagne can recognize a bottle of Comtes Des Champagne. Taittinger is apparently the favourite champagne maison of literary Bond, as opposed to the Bollingers and Dom Perringons in later movies.
You like to booze Calvin? I’d Patreon for a James Bond champagne-ranking!
Love Bond. I've seen all the films in the theaters since Moonraker at age 10. Roger Moore is probably my favorite. Very good list. Really enjoyed it
The best line in The World is not Enough and top 10 best 007 one liners that escapes most people is "I thought Christmas only comes once a year"
That's sounds super cringy to me lol.
@@teijaflink2226 HUH!!! Why? It's a great funny Bond one liner. And even though it wasn.t Bond who said it " I give you very best Duck" was another great one liner.
Nice job! Really interesting review! In my ranking Goldeneye or The World.. are the bests! (Can't choose). I think Brosnan is number one because in my opinion he didn't play Bond... he IS 007! Craig's era is nice films collection but... as Bond... I dont't buy it. Greetings from Poland 😉

I think it'll be Goldeneye and The Spy Who Loved Me...
Great list Calvin! We all have our un-guilty pleasures in the series. Mine has to be The Man With the Golden Gun for sure... My number 2! Christopher Lee is the perfect Bond villain. Would have loved to have seen him in a subjectively "better" written film, but still for me that film will always have a place in my heart. However like you Goldeneye is my top bond film. Had it on VHS and would watch it nightly in my room. :) You want to be Brosnan in this film.
I recently finished a 40th anniversary, 2023 re-cut of "Never Say Never Again" and now have previews available to view... with a way to watch/download my re-cut online, for free , which you will find in the comments section below. After you've watched the fully re-cut film please leave a comment to let me and others know what you thought of my work. If there's anything you didn't like, I'd like to hear about it, as I appreciate constructive criticism. Thanks!
Yes a highly personal choice, we all came to Bond in our own times. My dating parents saw Dr No, my first was The Spy Who Loved Me. Soft spot for Goldeneye as at the time it felt like Bond would never return! But when it did, boy, they nailed it! Thank you for all your hard work and great content. Luv it! 😎
17:57 had me laughing my ass off. Quality meme!
Calvin once mentioned how he'd unconsciously add up Bond elements and rank accordingly. Inspired by that I did a 5 point system of 22 Bond tropes: Action, Villain, Henchman, Bond, Pre-title, Climax, Fun, Look, Girl, Non-Cringe, Gadgets, Locales, Theme song, Scheme, Drama, Bloat, Allies, Score, Unique, Regulars, Stunts and Sets. Totaled up the resulting ranking is very close to my personal one:
01) The Spy Who Loved Me 88
02) Goldeneye 84
03) On Her Majesty’s Secret Service 84
04) You Only Live Twice 83
05) Tomorrow Never Dies 83
06) Goldfinger 83
07) Moonraker 80
08) From Russia with Love 80
09) Casino Royale 77
10) Octopussy 72
11) Live and Let Die 72
12) Skyfall 72
13) License to Kill 68
14) The Man with the Golden Gun 67
15) The World is Not Enough 66
16) For Your Eyes Only 65
17) A View to a Kill 64
18) Die Another Day 63
19) The Living Daylights 63
20) Thunderball 63
21) Quantum of Solace 61
22) Dr. No 60
23) No Time to Die 58
24) Never Say Never Again 54
25) Diamonds Are Forever 52
26) Spectre 47
Thank you Calvin! Absolutely beautiful work as always. My personal ranking would be thus;
01. Goldeneye
02. Casino Royale
03. Licence To Kill
04. The Spy Who Loved Me
05. Skyfall
06. Goldfinger
07. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

11. Octopussy
12. From Russia With Love
13. The World is Not Enough

22. Spectre
23. You Only Live Twice
24. Thunderball
25. Dr. No
As erratic and bizarre a list as I have ever seen full of…unique choices, but your candid explanation of your selecting process and the various caveats along the way earn my complete support. Your list need not resemble mine at all - which it does not - but your joy and love of Bond is true and beyond reproach.
No time to die is honestly my favourite film in the series. By far Craig's best performance, best action in the series, best musical score, doesn't feel that long and I don't have an issue with the ending as I think Flemming would have killed him and despite there being plot holes regarding his death, the scene itself was executed well which dampens my issues with it and it was my first bond film at cinema and it was an incredible experience so I love it. Top 5 film ever if not number 1 for me
It's easily in the top 10 for me. The script is the films biggest issue, but it's still a very strong entry. 19 is far, far too low in the rankings (in my opinion).
I personally think as JB007 opening scenes, my fav films are Tomorrow Never Diesd and The World Is Not Enough, including the graphics in the songs etc.
Live And Let Die has always been my fave with the right amount of action, comedy, great storyline and of course Jane Seymour.
Skyfall comes closest, the blowing up of the house is spectacular.
I wouldn’t normally include none official films in the list but if it means putting No Time To Die even further down then I’m all for it. I detest that film and while I’ve watched all the other films a dozen times or more I’ve not watched NTTD since seeing it on release at the cinema.
I watchem them all back to back and I'm baffled how close our lists are. I love Goldeneye!
My only real problem with The Spy Who Loved Me is Anya Amasova. She's fine in the dramatic stuff, but as much as people love to call her "Bond's equal" she's pretty much helpless as soon as shit actually goes down. The "badass, lethal agent XXX" who is supposed to be 007's female Russian counterpart immediately becomes a damsel to be saved as soon as the action starts, yet so many Bond fans act like she's Way Lin.
I've been working on my ranking for the better half of 3 years now since around the time of NTTD release, and I still can't decide. Each time I watch one of the films it reminds me of how much each one is so unique and I genuinely love all of them
To rank them - aside from my three favourites, known and locked in - I broke it down by actor. I ranked the Connerys, the Moores, the Brosnans, and so then as I was filling in my list from 4 downwards I could look at each actor list and say "is X better than Y".
I agree. There is only 1 or 2 that stay low while most I love and will shift around a lot.
Same. I flip flop so much trying to order them all. Only my top three never change. 1)FRWL 2)Casino royale 3)Goldeneye
What do you think of fashion used for the movies? Could you make a video about it
I'm pretty sure that For Your Eyes Only WAS intended to be an introduction to a new Bond (as Roger's salary demands were getting higher with each passing film after his initial three-film contract), weren't Sam Neill, Ian Ogilvy and Lewis Collins tested for the role at the time? Might just be a rumour but it certainly fits in with the theory that FYEO was a 'back to basics' kind of thing...
Would have been a much better fit for Dalton than Moore for sure.
Glad to see Octopussy so high up the list. One of Roger's more under-appreciated films, especially the sequence on the train!
With 25 official films, there's over 1.55e25 possible arrangements of Bond film rankings. Always great to hear such a thoughtful take - no 2 are the same :D
I love your channel! Amazing to hear someone share the same number 1 spot. I grew up watching all of the movies around the same time and that movie you put for number one has always resonated to me in a special way.
Great video, Calvin! I love the way you chose clips that underscore your comments. I also very much appreciate what you said about any ranking list being subjective and that one shouldn't get upset about anyone else's preferences. That being said, I hereby challenge you to a lifetime of bitter hatred for ranking "No Time to Die" above "The Man With the Golden Gun".
KIDDING!
No, you're absolutely right - the diversity of creative direction and tone is what makes the series such a joy - I'm sure my ranking would inspire a great deal of pearl-clutching. Again, great video! It's good to see your new list in this "Golden" anniversary year!
Not seen the Dalton ones but he's my 25:
1. Casino Royale (2006)
2. Skyfall
3. From Russia with Love
4. Goldeneye
5. Goldfinger
6. No Time to die
7. The Spy who Loved me
8. Thunderball
9. On HM's secret service
10. For your eyes only
11. Dr No
12. Live and Let Die
13. Tomorrow Never Dies
14. You only live twice
15. Spectre
16. Diamonds are forever
17. The world is not enough
18. Quantum of Solace
19. The man with the golden gun
20. Octopussy
21. Moonraker
22. Casino Royale (1960s)
23. Die another day
24. A view to a kill.
25. Never say Never again.
Great to see such a comprehensively thought out list! Haven't done my own list for a while, and whilst I can see it being wildly different from yours Calvin, I found myself agreeing with your pros and cons of each film more often than not.
I'm of a similar age, so also hold a lot of nostalgia with The World is Not Enough and it's a perfect valid reason to rank films so highly, as it all boils down to our person feelings, not necessarily What's objective.
What's great about Bond fans is how diverse our opinions can be on the series, but we all seem able to debate them reasonably and respect one another's points of view.
Always happy to see “You Only Live Twice” getting some praise. One of my favorites
Great ranking Calvin.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is my favorite film in the franchise.
I agree with no time to die, except that I'd rank it lower than Quantumn.
Diamonds are Forever is similar, everytime I watch it I know its going to be a fun time! Diamonds and Moonraker are just pure fun.
Thunderball is my Moonraker. It's the first Bond film that I ever saw, so I love it as much as Calvin loves Bond going to space. Speaking of space, I still find the Thunderball underwater scenes faster, more dynamic and creative and better choreographed than the outer space battle scenes in Moonraker which have the same slow movement related problems.
I have a hard time sitting down and ranking all 25 Bond movies. My top five are, in an order that changes depending on the day and hour, "From Russia With Love", "Tomorrow Never Dies", "For Your Eyes Only", "License to Kill", and ""Casino Royale". But "The Living Daylights" hangs around and jumps in sometimes as well.
1. Skyfall, my all time favourite film.
2. Casino Royale
3. Quantum Of Solace, and no, I'm not joking.
4. The Living Daylights
5 - 26 vary depending on my mood at the time
27. The 1954 tv-movie version of Casino Royale
28. Spectre, the only Bond film I vehemently loathe and detest.
The only reason I'm not mentioning the 1967 Casino Royale is because I refuse to acknowledge its existence or consider it a proper Bond film.
Nice 🙂 Thank You for sharing 😀
Lets gooooo! Goldeneye in no. 1! Was a little disappointed in 2019 when you ranked in #2 lol
I’ve never seen your content before and am not a huge Bond fan, but I have watched maybe 8-10 of them and hearing your takes on them was really interesting.
My first Bond film was Goldeneye and I played the N64 game as well, and only when you got to the top 5 did I realize you hadn’t mentioned it yet. Thinking back on the ones I’ve seen, it’s my favorite as well. I’m going to see if I can find Moonraker somewhere now to check that one out based on your recommendation! 😊
Cheers mate 👍🏻
Thanks, Johnny! Very much appreciated and I hope you enjoy Moonraker when you watch it :)
