Agreed. He is a smart guy with a huge blind spot where Trump sits despite what he says. I like Eric and Bret - but the contempt these two have (Bret's laughter) for anyone not as smart as they are takes away from their message. Crap - I just showed my own blind spot ...
The other thing: Most Americans don't go through their day focused on the presidency.

@@Chris-ji4iu: Or if someone fails to grasp their point which was based on a false premise. Eric was recently on The Verdict with Ted Cruz, and his annoyance and sense of superiority were palpable. More so, perhaps, because he saw his appearance on the show as a favor. I think he doesn't have as much fun on a daily basis as either Michael Knowles or Ted Cruz. The only episode I've seen, and probably the last, since Ted Cruz should really be working for his constituents rather than doing a podcast.

When it comes to despised personality traits, nothing seems to irritate people as easily as "smug superiority".
So, in a forum of your preference, state something clearly ignorant or absurd, but (sometimes) cleverly disguised as sincere. Wait for the inevitable reaction. Proceed to mock and provoke the people who feel the need to point out to everybody else just how wrong you are. No matter how silly you behave, the smug-superior people end up looking like fools in the end, to the silent majority.
Then, become the President of the United States of America.

It's like he is trying, to not try, to offend while saying something he is obviously trying to say. I can follow a portion of the thoughts of Eric, but I get overwhelmed at points. However, from the position statements he has made, I can agree with him. Basically, he and many of us are finding ourselves in an intellectual mine field not knowing how to get out safely to the truth, how to recognize the truth how to support the truth. We must not worship false Gods, we must be faithful to the basic ethical positions we have garnered from generations of thought and action. If we forsake the truth we may wander forever in No Man's Land ever fearful of a Kafka-like surreal world too horrible to contemplate.

Question for Eric: I don't know if I'm Conservative or Liberal. I'm interested in conserving the American Dream as embodied in the Declaration of Independence. OK. That's in some way Conservative. However, the Declaration is such a radical document of societal structure, it's still called "The Great Experiment." Is wanting to "conserve" a radical change of governance considered "Conservative?"
This is in reference to your (seeming) repugnance of the idea of 9 conservative justices on the Supreme Court. If those "conservative" justices are conserving the axiomatic underpinning of the American Ideal (...all men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights...that Governments are instituted among men, in order to conserve those rights, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..." is that really such a bad thing?

I hope you understand the Enlightenment was a left-wing movement in its time (conservatives being pro-conserving of the monarchy and aristocracy) and America was a left-wing experiment. The political dynamic was different at the time because Marxism didn't even exist. Many leftists see their ideologies as an extension and fulfillment of the Enlightenment NOT a rejection of it. You should really read up on some of this stuff before assuming you are conservative for aligning with the ideals of the Enlightenment, the founders and democracy.

Conservative is not a static point. Just as progressive/liberal are non static. Certainly there are more forces at work in our society but mostly these. Regards what Eric struggled to term and referred to as something like 'idealism of a time which is a false narrative to hide how people make money' is addressed at length by Thomas Piketty in Capital and Ideology and what he refers to as 'inequality regimes'.

I don't have much respect for Leftists, but I do respect Bret and Eric Weinstein. It's fascinating to hear them present reasonable ideas that focus on the concern of the underpriviledged without being screeched about how I'm a racist and that total government control of every aspect of life is the only possible answer. Nice to hear the other side from reasonable people.
