Thank you for this video Sparky! Im In Fort Worth during this arctic Blast and the copper pipeing at the top of my unit has frozen and burst. Im going to have to replace the whole unit I think. Thank you for the video. I think I'm going to be using it here in the next few days. Wish me luck. lol
Probably but you wouldn't have much pressure for the tankless water heater while you're using the pressure washer. You would most likely get an error message on the tankless water heater and it might be difficult to get it corrected.
Very helpful! I feel like I could do this after watching. What about a vid comparing Rheem vs Rinnai gas models? Exterior installs get the thing out of the house, which frees up space. How do I safely install a gas unit outside?
Excellent video, how do I remove a existing rheem rtgh prestige tankless unit to replace it witt rtgh dvln-2? While maintaining existing p lumbing settings and minimum efforts, without the need to solderthe pipes?
if you are referring to the eves that are on most houses, that isn't the issue. He's referring to extended patio covers that project out from the regular roofline and could trap or swirl gasses back into the house and around people recreating outside.
Nice job on the installation. I do a question, I just installed a rhemm indoor tankless water heater and it’s making a loud vibtration noises when I turn on the hot water line on any of my faucets. I’ve check gas line and I have 3/4 line and I also checked the vent and is taight and secure. What do you think and recommend I can check or do?
No, nothing leaked. The Rheem manual call out to use teflon tape, not pipe dope. They don't want a small piece of pipe dope getting into the tankless water heater.
Thanks Sparky. Just curious you had a red wire connected to the units hard wire black. Just wondering if I needed a different Romex type for the switch
I just swapped out 2-180,000 Rinnai’s in my house that were running in tandem, they lasted me over 20 years with zero maintenance and never broke once until it was time to replace, had I maintained them properly I’m sure they would’ve lasted longer but I definitely can say I got my money’s worth so I installed 2 replacement Rinnai’s. Rinnai is a solid brand, I think they’re the best but don’t quote me on that
You need to use the yellow colored tape. The white is for water lines only. The reason you can't use white is that if little bits break off in the pipe they can interfere with the gas valve. The yellow tape doesn't break into little bits apparantly.
@Sparky Almost every outdoor tankless water heater brand has a different minimum height requirement for the unit, what's the code requirement in your City of San Diego?
Why is the valve installed after the union? If you have to replace the heater wouldn't it be easier to have the gas valve before the union then you can turn off the gas disassemble the union and you do not have to turn off the gas at the meter?
He had one before and after the union, not sure why the one after the union is needed like your saying but he said the Rheem manual said to put it. All I can guess is safety redundancy in case one fails. Also these things are rated to last 30-40 years so it wont be me replacing it, lol
Sparky Channel so now, to connect my outdoor gas line(galvanized steel) with a psi tester and shrader valve to the 3/4” gas line from the tankless heater?
don't mount your water heater outside. Texas found out the hard way, but one rare cold snap and everyone's boilers and water heaters exploded their water lines and were A) without heat, water, or both. and B) it was a nightmare for them to restore water because everyone's boilers/water heaters are just wide-open faucets. it's not that hard to install it inside and run a vent out. if you live near the Amazon rainforest, then maybe you never have to worry about it, but anywhere in the US that has ever gotten snow is a terrible idea to install outside.
So far the best video on connecting tankless water heater ,very clear instructions ,thank you so much !
Glad it was helpful!
Great job, This is how an installation video should be done.
Thanks so much! 👍

same thing happened to me, will need this video soon.
Same thing for me, but in Houston. I've got the indoor unit up in the attic, but this is almost identical.
Thanks, super helpful!!
Great video Sparky. Really neat product.
Thanks Gary! Have a great Memorial Day!
Could I hook up a water hose to the cold water valve so I can use it with my pressure washer?
Probably but you wouldn't have much pressure for the tankless water heater while you're using the pressure washer. You would most likely get an error message on the tankless water heater and it might be difficult to get it corrected.
Very professional ❤
Excellent Video! Thanks
You are welcome!
Thank you for this video! Help me a lot financially I find something good explanation!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Really good instructional video. Does anyone know the minimum distance from the top of the tank to the top edge of the exterior wall?
Hi Sparky
can the outdoor tankless be used in weather below 0
It would be difficult.
Nice job sparky
Thanks!

dedicated electrical circuit for natural gas?
Great video...Do you have a video on using the cleaning valves?
great video thank you
Great explanation Thank You
Thanks!
Hello, does the power source need to be directly to a breaker? CA area will be permitted!
Yes, in most cases. The newest Leviton load centers are a little different.
GFCI protection requirement under the 2020 NEC - even hard wired.
Excellent video, how do I remove a existing rheem rtgh prestige tankless unit to replace it witt rtgh dvln-2? While maintaining existing p lumbing settings and minimum efforts, without the need to solderthe pipes?
Do the gas and water fittings match up on the rtgh dvln-2 with the rheem rtgh prestige tankless unit?
@@SparkyChannel Yes, they do, thank you.
Thank you these video help me a lot.
Glad to hear it! Thanks!
Awesome video! Very helpful, thank you!
You're very welcome! Thanks!
Does the condensate cause any staining etc on the ground for you? (without a neutralizer)
Have you had to replace the condensate neutralizer yet? I keep getting code 29. Line is not clogged. I tap it drains some when I hit the purge.
How did you attach the nonmetallic flex conduit to the control wire cover? I'm at this point and seem to be missing something
Can I have a roof 2' overhang above it?
if you are referring to the eves that are on most houses, that isn't the issue. He's referring to extended patio covers that project out from the regular roofline and could trap or swirl gasses back into the house and around people recreating outside.
Hey Sparky 👋 why did you add a second gas valve?
That's how Rheem calls it out in their drawings.
@@SparkyChannel ah ok, thank you for the quick reply.

How long has it been installed?
Good vid Bill ...
Thanks Eddy! Have a great Memorial Day!
Nice job, you covered a lot of ground in 8 minutes. Looks like you prefer PTFE (teflon tape) over pipe dope...did anything leak?
No, nothing leaked. The Rheem manual call out to use teflon tape, not pipe dope. They don't want a small piece of pipe dope getting into the tankless water heater.
Up to code like always great job
Thanks! Have a great Memorial Day!
Need a video on how pop out the water and gas lines from inside the garage?
thanks for a great video. I just installed a Richmond tankless water heater everything is connected but heater does not work, why?
Are your water and gas valves on?
@@SparkyChannel yes
Hello Sparky, what type of romex your using? thank you
12/2 NMB by Southwire.
Thanks Sparky. Just curious you had a red wire connected to the units hard wire black. Just wondering if I needed a different Romex type for the switch
Thanks for ur time
It's my pleasure, thanks!
Thank you sir😀
Hey Sparky, why no Wago lever nuts on this project?
They would have worked fine but the wire nuts work fine also.
super helpful!
Thanks!
Is this regular gas water heater or propane gas
Natural gas.
Which one do you think is better Rinnai or Rheem?
I think they are equal.
I just swapped out 2-180,000 Rinnai’s in my house that were running in tandem, they lasted me over 20 years with zero maintenance and never broke once until it was time to replace, had I maintained them properly I’m sure they would’ve lasted longer but I definitely can say I got my money’s worth so I installed 2 replacement Rinnai’s. ur code allows tape on gas lines?
Yes, in fact Rheem says to only use tape.
You need to use the yellow colored tape. The white is for water lines only.
The reason you can't use white is that if little bits break off in the pipe they can interfere with the gas valve. The yellow tape doesn't break into little bits apparantly.
do I have to have a 3/4 gas line direct from my meter or can I branch off still using a 3/4
@Sparky Almost every outdoor tankless water heater brand has a different minimum height requirement for the unit, what's the code requirement in your City of San Diego?
I believe it's 3'.
@@SparkyChannel Thanks Sparky.
Awesome video

You didn’t have to wire the recirculating control?
No, I didn't have one.

How high has to be the tankless
I would say at least 3' off the ground.
What’s going to happen if I have a 3 foot overhang with 8 feet of clearance above the vent ?
I don't think that would be a problem but you could check with the manufacturer.
Sparky Channel so now, to connect my outdoor gas line(galvanized steel) with a psi tester and shrader valve to the 3/4” gas line from the tankless heater?

I think in Phoenix we will be ok
Any one know the difference between rtf-95xln-1 and eco200xln3-1. ?
How did you know i was in the market for a tankless?
LOL! It's weird how things happen sometimes.
You can't install that outside where I live. The pipes will freeze in the winter
I understand.
The model I bought didn’t come with a Power Cord. 🤦🏻♂️
Interesting.
Yes, but I need an all electric model. Any suggestions? Thanks
Yes, watch my video tomorrow on electric tankless water heaters. I'll be explaining how the EcoSmart's work.
