For more than 30 years now I asked over and over again why the connectors must be where they are instead of any other configuration for easier cable management, and only just now someone decided to finally make it happen.
Finally, i've been wondering for decades why there aren't more boards with connectors on the back. Now at least two companies are getting into it. I mean, pick your base locations for everything, have them all be on the front or back, then it won't matter which one your board uses, you can even mix and match if for some reason that is a benefit to your motherboard layout or whatever, cases can keep it into account, and you're done, every board should fit every case (with the same size and base layout like mATX, ATX, ITX etc.of course). Cables can also almosty sure be shorter. Hell, i would even like plug in boards, as in you plug in your motherboard into the case, that has an internal PCB, plug in your PSU, with maybe some small cables, and a case builder might even make some spots for SATA drives etc in the case, plug in your mobo, plug in 4 SATA drives on the back, they're connected. All you need really is again basic spots for all your base needs and the rest you can play around with. Of ccourse a standardized PSU layout would also help, but that may be a bit too much, but hey, you can probably use a lot more smaller cables with even a max length of like 10cm and you're done, less cable clutter.
Nice looking case. Seeing the spaghetti cables on the back made me reconsider a new build HA HA. I feel the same way as Jason.....who cares what the cabling looks like in the back.
Its interesting to see how much aesthetics becomes a factor in pc building. 20 years ago pretty much only the case represented your pc. A raccoon could live inside and no one would have cared. Now its down to the last cable. For me, as kind of a oldschool builder, I prefer practicality and functionality above all. But it was a big step into the "new" trends getting a Fractal torrent with a glass side, RGB RAMs and the shiny 7900xtx nitro+..Some things change slowly but when practicality and aesthetics (and price) realign Im in.
I like your little cat helpers! And *cable management* can be a nightmare, like that closet in your house where you throw everything in and shut the door really fast so everything else doesn't fall out!
Noticed your personal pc build in the background. Not sure this new "zero cable" version is any cleaner...but, hey, it's always fun watching you build.

Jason, first off hats off to you and Sarah again putting together another great video! Also the cat help was nice too! I like the build very much, it looks sleek. Hi GD! Thanks for sharing! You're right a white GPU would also look great here. I should have done a time lapse on the back as I finished. The trick was identifying the order in which I needed to do the cabe management so as not to wall stuff off lol. Once that became clear it felt a bit like working in a mini itx build, tighter than normal but doable with some elbow grease.
I was in a workplace accident last year. I am getting my insurance money next month. They kinda wait a year with the disability payout to determine if it's permanent or not. Might get somewhere around 40k for my eye. Not sure how much for my brain damage. Kinda interested in building a completely new computer and project zero looks like a fun one but I don't like glass panels.
MB companies need to have a default setting that's a baseline to the manufacturers' recommended specs. Then if we want to chance taking things beyond spec, that's on the end user. It should NOT be the default setting to have everything turned up to 11.
You know what would be cool for the Zero cables and could work for GPU Cables in this case MSI should make a Vertical mount for the GPU that Vertical mounts the GPU UPSIDE DOWN SO that the front part where the cable plugs in becomes the bottomand then you just have a slot along there that gets covered by the GPU where the cable feeds through. Then you just have to make sure Airflow can be maintained as the Fans would point toward the Mobo which I Initially didn't think of haha. Finally, it is not so much about cleanliness, much more about ease of installation and servicing. put the cabling to the back, also for pcie components with the back to the future.

As my laptop I ran every day for 3 year is gone now. If I could get even an inexpensive 3050 prebuilt from someone like NZXT, that would make it less of an urgency. Right now, outside of my PS3 and Series X that constantly has World of Warships Legends crash, I’m probably gonna find other things to do. As I’m not much of a console gamer anymore. I spent much more time on PC games than console. In fact, my Series X at one point hadn’t been turned on in almost 2 months. It was only turned on to watch the 4k Blu-ray of Oppenheimer when it was delivered. Because I hardly play on Xbox anymore, I figured it would be better just to sell it and get a dedicated Panasonic DP-UB820 4k Blu-ray player.
Just keep an eye here for deals. He is excellent at finding sales and helping you find the parts you need to get your build optimized. That's how I built my first pc. Buying one piece at a time is okay, but if you need to rma something, it makes it more urgent. If anything, I've noticed in the summer(June-August)sales fire up on many parts.
I’m building a similar system to transition to PC gaming with the help of the PC builder videos as I’ve become more into game preservation. I feel like my build wouldn’t make him go ‘ay yai yai yai yai’

Only one shot of her brother & Lisa asleep on the window sill That build would look nice with the power cable for the GPU being RGB What about a white GPU & its power cable & run rotating RGB fan lighting?
TBH, $450-ish for Case/Mobo/PS is less than I would have guessed. I hope this concept gains some traction in the marketplace... And that someone works on a solution for fans. TBH, I've never been less challenged by mobo cables than I have the rats nest associated with fans. At least ARGB hubs make it easier to hide the mess in a central location...
You sometimes mention downvoltage (or something like that) when overclocking. Why is it lower than the standard voltage. Back in the day we used to increase it, like from 1.5v to 1.55v or 1.6v when we increase the clockspeed, sort of helped to compensate for the power demand and heating issued maybe. Why lower now?
Chip production is better is the simple answer. A combination of smaller dies, so less opportunities for flaws and improved processes mean more chips will be better and more efficient than the bare minimum spec. Undervolting was used in the olden days to but less frequently because fewer chips could benefit.
Voltage is what provides stability, but also where the heat comes from. So if overclocking, for instance, you increase voltage to run stable at the higher clocks. These days hardware manufacturers often use much higher voltage because that means fewer of their products will be unstable (often resulting in a returned product). So it is possible to undervolt GPUs & CPUs so that you run them at the same clock speed and just reduce the operating voltage a bit to reduce the heat load. But that can also lead to instability, so the trick is to only reduce voltage enough to reduce heat, but not introduce instability.
I think these MB's could be the new "std" if they just lower the cost of the MB. For me I love the look of the cable connectors behind the MB! Awesome looking PC!!
I just built and I don't build often so I'm not in the market. But hey anybody can use a Dremel and make the slots needed in any existing case. I bet someone will offer stencils, jigs, and custom grommets. This is a step in the right direction. Cables can be much shorter. Nobody realizes PC cables are probly junk with low or no copper content. So less cables is a very good thing. Seriously there should be more scrutiny on wire content.
I'm terrible at cable management, so a cableless build is something I'd like to see more of. Cableless GPU's would be a huge step in eliminating cable clutter
FYI the Asus GPU that has the power connection at the bottom that plugs into the Motherboard does NOT pull power from the Motherboard, you have to plug the GPU power cable into the back of the Motherboard.
Love the look, but would be hating life dealing with the cables on the back. True cable-less would be 100% power draw through the motherboard, but doubt that'll be any time soon.
Seeing your cats sleeping together with your other cat (don't know name) having their leg on top of Mr Bear was so cute. The idea of cables on the back of the motherboard is an interesting topic. Will I buy one? Not currently because it's not mainstream enough yet and I think there needs to be standards set that all manufacturers follow.
For build like this, I think it would be better if you get that new power supply that goes sideways, that way you would have straight shorter power cabling(straightforward)
Solid build. Call me old-fashioned, but I like the cables. I like the added flair of custom cables as aesthetics are usually a good portion of my budgets for my builds. I do like how clean and minimalistic this looks though. Definitely a beast of a gamer.
If only I could have done this for my NAS build (repurposed 7700k office PC). 6 hard drives, a SAS HBA, and an RX580. In a microATX case. The cable management is a disaster... and I still have to install a couple more fans! Edit - I have an idea to improve it, but it'll be a total pain...
I am currently building this very same combo. I was really hoping you would show where on the motherboard you connected the various white cables from the case. Do all the JUSB's get connected? I've yet to install the liquid cooler. Looking forward to see this complete!
The concept is alright and i can foresee it being better but right now it seems very counterintuitive with cable management. Most decent cases will only have the 24pin and gpu power cables actually showing which is more than fine. Front panel wires are hit or miss but are usually barely noticeable. I feel like we are doing hella more work for minimal cable hiding improvements. We need more space in the back since now all the extra length needs to be there(dual chamber cases would be nice for this), and even in the end the gpu power cable negates the whole purpose unless you get the specific gpu models like you mentioned. Not really a fan of it especially if we have to pay more for this "features" No hate towards you btw, in fact thanks for this video on showing us this stuff big fan of you and your informative videos. Just not really impressed with this right now.
I love it. It is the future. It is one of those things that I wonder why did it not happen earlier. I don't want to see any cables regardless how good cable management is. Spending fortune on pretty cables and then spending a lot of time and energy to do best possible cable management are not the best choices. I hope & feel that more & more future PC's will be build this way and some point it will be the main stream build method.
It's a great idea, but personally, I would wait another generation or two. Give them some time to work out the kinks, like the 24-pin and usb3 location. On top of that, I would hate to buy all the parts, only to see MSI release a 60-series card with power thru the rear like the ASUS cards. They definitely look amazing though.
I have a feeling that this is the future. I remember my first jumperless Abit board back in the day. It was just one of a few boards with that feature. Then everyone had it. Quality Control
This concept will be great for system integraters. If this is standardized then entire case and psus could be prewired, reducing a ton of the on demand labor costs and possibly something a machine could do in the future, which everyone hates but is good for cost effectiveness. It looks amazing though, not sure I'd pay the premuim for it today but I'll definitely end up with a back build one day.
Maybe case makers should start to make motherboards, with alittle bit more roo. In theback, for spaghetti management. Good build, video. Thanks for sharing👍🏻🔥
I love that you guys took the two kitties so they can be together. My kitty's best friend died two years ago, and no other can replace him for her. ❤❤❤
Aw sending love to your friend! I know how hard it is. Nothing will ever replace our Xena who died in January. But we are happy to go on a new journey with these kitties (:
I think this the first time I have watched one of these builds and it was nice to see it going together. If these setups catch on I wonder if L brackets will be easy to get soon. All hail Mr Bear and his supervisors.
Gosh I’d love to but there just aren’t enough locations for that video to be relevant to enough people. But if you watch our Best CPU/GPU Combo 2024 video that should help you pick yours
I do cable management and try to make my build as clean as possible. But it's more for my own satisfaction. My computer goes under my desk and you can barely see it. Also no one is going in my office to check out my PC. I'd rather have more inexpensive parts then over engineered parts that are expensive because they are cable free.
Actually, because my laptop croaked, I’ve decided to go ahead and build a budget PC with an upgrade path so I can properly save up for the good components. I’ve discovered an RTX 3050 will give similar performance as my RTX 2070 laptop, but much more stable, and cooler. Especially with the case I’ve decided on, the Corsair 4000D Airflow. I also salvaged my 2TB Samsung QVO SSD. I won’t have to wait for my games to redownload. I’ve decided to put a Ryzen 5 7600 into the build, as I already have 32GB of G.Skil Trident Z5 RAM. Might as well use it in the system with an upgrade path. As I can legit just upgrade the CPU and GPU and leave everything else the same.
So I wouldn't get the 3050 because it's a GPU I've seen nobody recommend. It's not a good GPU. Also Jason doesn't like the 4000D Airflow Case because It only comes with 2 fans.
@@Kyleplier well then I would chose a different Case. Go with the Montech 903 Air Base or Max and up the GPU to the 3060 12GB. I just don't want you building this Computer and not enjoying it because of the GPU.
I really truly wouldn't go 3050. There are GPUs at the same price that are better options. And the 7600 will be a waste of money with that GPU. See our Best GPU/CPU Combo 2024 video for lots more on bottleneck and why to avoid it. Then watch our latest GPU Market Update video for the best under $200 GPUs that will destroy the 3050
11:32 Just as they disguise cell towers as palm trees, you should dress up and disguise that GPU power cable as a tree or something. Thanks for showing us this build. I'm not crazy about all-white builds, but I scored a free case & fans, PSU, and CPU cooler -- all DeepCool in white with RGB -- so I'm gonna do one. A white mobo and RAM are easy, but I was concerned about the GPU. Now I see that a traditional black card looks okay in a white build, so that's what I'll do.
Since I go for mesh panels rather than glass, I don't see the cables anyway, I wonder if this is going to be like RGB where everyone has their own proprietary solution.
Part of why I think this will succeed is that MSI and ASUS have partnered with case manufacturers to come up with a standard for the rear cable pass throughs. But we'll see if it catches on!
what? that case has nowhere near enough space in the back for the cables WTH?! they had to make it deeper in the back, that's not acceptable! great job pulling it off!
It was a little trickier than it needed to be for sure. Hopefully they will keep working on that. But I did get there in the end without needing to drill holes or anything (;
I'd like to see a similar build with a "traditional" cables pc and compare the two builds in terms of price to performance. Do they cost about the same or does the "cabless" build cost more and is it worth the extra cost?
The cable less builds do cost more. You are paying for the look. We have a traditional 7800X3D sample build in our “Best Builds February” video in the “builds and parts list” on the channel page if you want to check that out to compare
I have bought all my keys from them for the past 3 years (dozens at this point) so I am very comfortable recommending them. I've also had many happy people let me know they work great for them in the comments and any issues that have been reported to me are always taken care of by the company.
Hi, love your videos! I am doing a similar build but with a new THERMALTAKE TOWER 600 case. My issue is the mounting of the MB area seems to be missing the cutouts on one side where there's a bunch of pinouts that are not accessible and could possibly short the MB and other hardware! Their website says that the case is compatible with back connect series MB's. I don't know what I'm not seeing via the riser mounts but no info in the Manual for back connect series MB! I might have to buy a different MB to work with this case which I didn't want to do, was looking forward to using this MB. All info will be appreciated, thanks!
Hi Jason. Power supply manufactors should sell an ATX 3.1 power supply designed for ZERO MBs. Or, at least, with shorter cables, braided of course. Allowing a black cat to walk in front of your PC will garantee it will not POST.
Hey man, I couldn't find any video of this on your channel so I just wanted to ask: There is so much conflicting information regarding bottlenecking (especially when it comes to CPU + GPU combos) and I was wondering if you could make a video explaining this or if you could recommend any other video/website explaining this? Thanks in advance!
I’m new to PC building and I’m looking to build my first PC so excuse the ignorance, but would this machine, exactly as shown below able to handle any games at 4k with max settings or is it not quite there?
Yes. 7800X3D is the best current gaming CPU and as long as you pair it with one of the GPUs we recommend you will end up with a great 4k build. This is the MSI project Zero build though so you might want to take a look at a more standard build list as well. Check out our regular 7800x3D build guide on the channel for more. And as a newcomer I'd also watch our PC Parts Explained 2024 video and our Best GPU/CPU Combo 2024 video to get you ready to pick your parts
Hello I want to buy a new PC for content creation + gaming. I have a 4070. I was initially thinking of a ryzen 7800X3D due to its efficiency and performance. But, I think maybe the 13600K is a better option due to itsperformance in programs for productivity. Which should I choose?
I would go 14600K if in the US since it isn't that much vs the 13600K or 7800X3D. 14700K is another good option. Intel would be better for Content Creation but the AMD would be better for Gaming.
Hi contacting you for your guidance. I want to upgrade my PC. Current specs are: motherboard: MSI B550-A CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X RAM 16 GB GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 ti planning to upgrade to: Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D RAM:32GB GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will remain the same so the budget for it :) Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade them I mostly do gaming i am looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Wow, the cut from the beautiful 'front' to the chaotic mess in the back at 7:30. Really hammers the "cable-less" concept.

Agreed!
It's so nice to see Mr. Bear and his primordial pouch strutting around in full splendor (11:35).
Mr. Bear appreciates the attention! And he thanks you for watching :)
I'm waiting for Lian Li O11 vision back connect. Hopefully, there will be more back connect gpu by the time that pc case is out.
I'm terrible at cable management, so a cableless build is something I'd like to see more of. Cableless GPU's would be a huge step in eliminating cable clutter
Excited to see what ASUS brings to the table with their cable less GPUs launching soon
I like the look, but I don't like this case. Hopefully this will be wide spread. Moving all the cables to the back looks very nice.
There are definitely other case options!
You're making me want to rebuild my PC even though it's fine the way it is 😂😭😅
I know right? lol
I was surprised how nice this turned out
Seeing your cats sleeping together with your other cat (don't know name) having their leg on top of Mr Bear was so cute.
The idea of cables on the back of the motherboard is an interesting topic. Will I buy one? Not currently because it's not mainstream enough yet and I think there needs to be standards set that all manufacturers follow.
Mr. Bear loves his new family :) Yeah it is! And thanks for watching ;)
For build like this, I think it would be better if you get that new power supply that goes sideways, that way you would have straight shorter power cabling(straightforward)
That is the cleanest pc build I ever saw. Nice job, Jason
Thanks so much! I liked the way it turned out (:
love this new era of Zero Cables....now if only the GPU can adopt this concept as well...
Asus BTF will have a GPU option when it comes out
Solid build.
Sending good vibes for it!!
I am currently building this very same combo. I was really hoping you would show where on the motherboard you connected the various white cables from the case. Do all the JUSB's get connected? I've yet to install the liquid cooler. Looking forward to see this complete!
Wanting to do this in my next build. Thinkin of doing a custom loop too. Looks so clean in my head and i gotta make it happen
That would be beautiful!
Not really a fan of it especially if we have to pay more for this "features"
No hate towards you btw, in fact thanks for this video on showing us this stuff big fan of you and your informative videos. Just not really impressed with this right now.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice build, I would try it if MSI also made a "No Cable"(shorter cable length) psu.
The background music, I love it.
This is absolutely the way to go. Motherboard and case makers should both be hard at work right now to make it happen.
I'm excited about it too!
I love it too! Looks really sharp
Would this mobo be suitable for every PC case or just this MSI one?
It's a great idea, but personally, I would wait another generation or two. Give them some time to work out the kinks, like the 24-pin and usb3 location. On top of that, I would hate to buy all the parts, only to see MSI release a 60-series card with power thru the rear like the ASUS cards. They definitely look amazing though.
Early adopters are always running some risks for sure (:
I have a feeling that this is the future.
I remember my first jumperless Abit board back in the day. It was just one of a few boards with that feature. Then everyone had it.
Quality Control
Could be!
Well said! Happy Sunday Spoon, hope you are well
And I have those exact RAM sticks for mine, just in black! G.Skill Trident Z5 32GB DDR5 6000MHz
Nice!!
The question I have about the motherboard is that whether it can fit a RX6700 XT GPU?
I'm pretty sure there were graphics cards that you could plug in from the back as well
Asus BTF is coming out with them but they aren’t here yet
Maybe case makers should start to make motherboards, with alittle bit more roo. In theback, for spaghetti management. Good build, video. Thanks for sharing👍🏻🔥
Not a bad idea! Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Love the idea of a no cable build! Personally I welcome the idea of a fatter case so that cable management would be easier and hidden.
@@PCBuilderChannel Yeah, they leave paw-shaped holes in our lives, but we always have room for more paws. Sending more hugs to you both, for Xena. ❤️
I think this the first time I have watched one of these builds and it was nice to see it going together. If these setups catch on I wonder if L brackets will be easy to get soon. All hail Mr Bear and his supervisors.
Thank you! Mr Bear approves
Can you do videos using microcenter bundles to build a pc? Microcenter often has significant discounts where they bundle a motherboard, ram, and CPU.
Gosh I’d love to but there just aren’t enough locations for that video to be relevant to enough people. But if you watch our Best CPU/GPU Combo 2024 video that should help you pick yours
Jason, can you provide a link to the small monitor you used when you checked to see if it posted? Thanks
This looks so clean!
I would pay for this if I could afford it
It turned out cooler than I expected!
I have this case and I want to add an hdd. Do you just screw it on the back side of the case too without having to purchase any mounting hardware?
That case and mobo would probably go great with one of the GPUs that hides the power cable under the back plate of the GPU.
Yes!
The cat even checked the fan bearing before you installed the ram, how thoughtful of him.. 😹
So thoughtful! Such a good supervisor ;)
@@PCBuilderChannel 😹😹😹
I do cable management and try to make my build as clean as possible. But it's more for my own satisfaction. My computer goes under my desk and you can barely see it. Also no one is going in my office to check out my PC. I'd rather have more inexpensive parts then over engineered parts that are expensive because they are cable free.
Looks good! Now we need a PSU with side mounted connectors as well!
Yes!
There's at least 1 psu like that already but I agree that more would be good when this becomes more standard
So "zero cable" is just the mullet of the pc world. Business up front, party in the rear..
Haha!!! Love this
5:50 cat🐈🐈⬛’astrophy incoming …… and luckily averted 😇😅😂🤣
Phew! Haha Thanks so much for watching and for your continued support!
I dont see this working well for horizontal cases. I don't mind doing cable management though.
Jason’s face genuinely confused by back to the future 😂
Don't entirely get it not going to lie lol
That rig looks slick 👌
@@kelley09162I’m buying 6 fans for it. And a 3050 is all I can afford ATM.
Disguise is a good idea! And I personally like the “panda” black and white builds best (:
Since I go for mesh panels rather than glass, I don't see the cables anyway, I wonder if this is going to be like RGB where everyone has their own proprietary solution.
Part of why I think this will succeed is that MSI and ASUS have partnered with case manufacturers to come up with a standard for the rear cable pass throughs. But we'll see if it catches on!
what? that case has nowhere near enough space in the back for the cables WTH?!
they had to make it deeper in the back, that's not acceptable!
great job pulling it off!
It was a little trickier than it needed to be for sure. Hopefully they will keep working on that. But I did get there in the end without needing to drill holes or anything (;
dumb question but where doesd the pump cable go and the fan cables on the radiator go
Now, just, along with redesigning the basic structure of the mobo, please give me an error code display? Is your tech that advanced, MSI???
Totally Awesome! Will be my next build!!! Maybe in the Corsair Case though.
Love to hear it! :) And thanks for tuning in!
Mr. Bear is the best QA (Quality Assurance)
That's right! (;
Made sure the AIO exhaust was on top and not the side 😂
thanks for the video, i bought the same pc build and waiting for its delivery!
Exciting!
That CD key site kinda sketchy, they have the Win 11 home key listed as 239usd, when Microsoft themselves only sell it for around 140usd
Agreed on the PSU but the black cat is definitely optimal for a successful pc build (;
I already have it thanks for the tip
Are they going to make a All black version of this?
Now, if they can only streamline tower size.

@@PCBuilderChannel Thank you for taking the time to share this information! Its greatly appreciated.
Answered elsewhere (:
I’m going for my first pc build and I’m a bit confused if my 4080 super FE would be a contender to take advantage of the zero cable features?
Check out the video for more, the GPU in MSI Project Zero has the cables and you can use any option
Hi
contacting you for your guidance.
I want to upgrade my PC. Current specs are:
motherboard: MSI B550-A
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
RAM 16 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 ti
planning to upgrade to:
Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-Plus
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
RAM:32GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti will remain the same so the budget for it :)
Do you think it's a good idea to upgrade them
I mostly do gaming i am looking forward to your suggestions.
Thanks in advance.
No. You should stay on AM4 and upgrade the CPU to the 5700X3D or 5800X3D so you can upgrade your GPU.
