- When the first Pagani Huayra made its appearance at a meet for Pagani owners, evo's Harry Metcalfe was there to take a ride.
The new Pagani Huayra is one of the most eagerly awaited supercars with the promise of 720bhp from its mid-mounted 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine - enough power to blast it to an estimated 235mph top speed.
Our man Harry Metcalfe got a chance to see the Huayra up close at an event for Pagani owners in Sardinia - there are some advantages to having a Zonda in the garage.

I have such admiration for the way Italians make things with engineering passion and style working in unison. Only Italy could come up with this car.
This is quite literally my favorite video on the Huayra.
The thing that separates this from other hyper cars is the interior!

Love the sound of the straight cut gearbox, also the whole exposed gear linkage is amazing. Such a cool car!
This is one of those cars that I would not be able to stop smiling the whole time I am driving. The only problem I find with this car is eventually I would have to stop to sleep.

The car's onboard sound is music to the ears ...... amazing acoustic work to look like a jet ....... I've never seen anything like it.

OMG, as a turbo car owner the sound and the instant wave of boost is amazing. I LOVE the sound of this car, and I would boost just to hear her scream and blow-off.
Can you imagine this thing with an intake and exhaust?! Talk about ridiculous!
The zonda R was the ultimate end to the zonda era and had by far the best sound of the range. Now the block has been turbocharged and allready this soundtrack is just stunning... The puddle of drool will be enormous when they make it even more wild and raw in the upcoming models...
I loved the Zonda and was rather skeptical of the Huayra when it was introduced, but especially after watching this, it's hard to describe the awesomeness...

Just visisted Pagani last week in Castel Franco, and i must say that this car is a masterpiece.
The design i real life i abselutely spot on.
The Zonda is great aswell, but this car is just at a different level.
The interior is stunning, the overall aesthetics feel like a throwback to 50s futurism!
An absolutely amazing car and amazing man. I never thought they could make a car as beautiful as the Zonda's and yet here it is. I bought his book and his story is such a triumph of vision and determination. Thank you Mr. Pagani

The sound of that turbo engine is awesome. And the car even picked up speed from 5th gear! Wow!

Now don't think I'm hating on the Zonda, I LOVE a car that sing and roars like the Zonda, but the Huayra is just on another level! You can't compare them - they are both just amazing!

OMG what an incredible car...this is absolutely insane. Zonda is my number one love but I think I am going to start lovin' this one too...for sure.
I can live without the sound of the engine but MY GOD what an amazingly beautiful and stunning car. Horacio himself has stated the Huayra is technically the successor to the zonda, but in reality it's a completely different car. It's not exactly a softer car, but it isn't as extreme as the zonda.
Those aerodynamics are amazing! Horachio Pagani is a genius!

Best wastegate/valve noise i've heard for a long time. Turbos sound quite small too so plenty of room left for enormous lag+power
Reflections of the dashboard are as insane as the sound. Pagani should provide a couple of fancy polarized glasses with this beast.

I just saw this car next to the Zonda R and Mr Horacio Pagani (the old driver...lol) and I must say, WOW! The Huayra is spectacular! The Huayra only sounds better inside because of the turbos. :)

Agreed! These cars are designed to show Ferrari they can be beaten. The interior and exterior is so beautiful they beat any other car in terms of looks, the fact they use AMG engines just means they aren't all mouth no trousers, these cars go as fast as they look.

I like it a lot - iv´e been looking at pictures of it for a while to figure what they have done. And i think this will grow a lot over time, its both very classic and modern and have more compactness that shows in many of the new Supersportscars like the 458 and the recent Porsche Concept. And i like the "Turbosound" - it´s different like a mix of Buggatti and a jet - and i think for this segment, being different is really important.
The car literally sounds like its ONLY powered by wind, doesn't sound like it has an internal combustion engine at all. Amazing.

You see, when I saw a video about the Zonda for the first time it simply blew me away. I was amazed at the noise it made. I played it again and again. I couldn't have enough of it. It's something different.
Let's say the design is OK for the umpteenth look. But the way it sounds...
Was it really necesary to turbocharge the engine for extra ca. 50 hp? This engine sounds even better in the new MB SL65 AMG BS.
Anyway, I won't be able to afford one.
