ND fan here. Back in 2022, there were several times when ND was down by only a score and driving and coughed up the ball. USC won by 11. A lot of my USC friends said USC blew out ND in 2022 and that it was never in doubt. Now they're saying the same things this video keeps repeating, about being down only one score, and if not for this then that, if this play went this way instead of that, then it's a different story, etc. Yeah, that's with any game in the history of sports. If I played that same game, I could say "oh, if Jayden Thomas doesn't fumble, score would've been 14-0 since ND was marching down the field," "oh, if Leonard doesn't get sacked, he would've thrown it down field to a streaking WR for the TD." Same idea.
I respect this rivalry, and USC has legitimate players, and y'all will be much improved next year. But if you're gonna play the what-if game, I'd say do both sides.

USC, excluding Pete's years, has been an average program since John Robinson left. Just not a premiere program. Similar to UCLA basketball. LA is the Lakers and the Dodgers. City is not really into amateur football and basketball (they get paid now, so maybe best description is poorly played minor league football). Kids are not the attraction in LA, so they go to the SEC where they are stars of the state for three years.

Pete allowed the players to be themselves, have fun, and compete for playing time. He was famous for allowing freshmen to come in and immediately compete for starting opportunities. Also, he had nothing to hide, his practices were open for celebrities like George Lucas, Will Ferrell and a host of others to just hang out on the sidelines and bring an entertainment atmosphere to his style of coaching. He enjoyed playing catch and throwing the football around. There was even a time where he got hit in the nose and got his nose broken during pregame practice with the Seahawks. Lincoln Riley is the complete opposite, he doesn't seem to connect with the kids and create a cohesive environment. Football is supposed to be fun!

They need to let Pete Carroll coach the team for the bowl game. Maybe USC can tell the Bears they can hire Lincoln Riley. Get him back with Caleb Williams. Riley just isn't a good enough head coach. A real disaster. Most of USC's losses should be blamed on Riley. He had a lot of games where did a bad job managing the clock and like was mentioned, didn't run the ball enough. It always seemed like USC would get going because they ran the ball. Then in the second half it was nothing but pass, pass, pass. Really dumb. If you want a good offense you should do both half of the time unless one of them isn't working.

Just forget for a moment about whether USC should have run the ball more; that 557 yards was more than the team put out under Moss. Up until late in the 3rd quarter when Riley thought he had to take advantage of that INT by Humphrey, the offense passed 23x and ran 18x. But the wheels fell off after the defense allowed ND to score in just 3 plays going 62 yards, putting the Irish up by 2 TDs with a minute left in the 3rd quarter. You're telling me that you'd keep running the ball against the Irish down 14 points right after they scored in 3 plays from the Irish 38? 🤔

    1) The USC coaching job needs to be a CEO and not a play calling position. Riley needs to give up offensive play calling duties period. He has boneheaded series that kill us every game (like multiple). No other top teams’ coach calls plays they all manage all aspects of the game
    2) We need a true NIL/recruiting strategy. So much so we should hire a GM of the football program. Literally run it like a pro team. We also need a clear strategy on SoCal/California recruiting.
    3) Riley needs to recognize that in the BIG10 you have to run the ball consistently. Doesn’t matter who you are. And it has to be in different situations. 2nd and 8…guess what you are still a threat to run the ball. Time Of Possession is an underrated stat in football.
    4) Winning recruiting at USC now needs to be valued depending on the OLine and DLine. It’s not a given but it is close to it that we will get a good to great QB and skill positions or we can develop those. We need to first get good Oline and Dlinenen and then develop them

It’s so much better it’s not even close. Before this game they only gave up like 21 points per game. Even today we got sooo many 3rd down stops. ND just refused to punt the ball and kept going for it on 4th down. Even with that we got stops. Our offense just sucks. It sounds crazy but CLR is not a good play caller. He is arrogant and stubborn. His refusal to change quickly costs us last season and this season.

Unfortunately, there is no reason to think that Lincoln Riley will make the offensive changes that the current record and personnel would seem to dictate are needed. Any guy who answers criticism by alluding to the now infamous "untrained eye" is arrogant and stubborn beyond reason. And, assuming that he does, in fact, have SEVEN REMAINING GUARANTEED SEASONS at 10 million dollars plus per season, he does not have to do much of anything he simply does not choose to do. Paying off 70 million dollars to have a guy NOT COACH AT USC is not likely. USC is not Texas A&M and it is not easy to envision any SC Booster willing to finance such a scenario. I don't think the mindset of SC's financial supporters is necessarily analogous to what one might find in the SEC. It is very hard to know what else to expect from Riley other than his insistence on doing the SOS. Remember, the Minnesota HFC said that although USC was quite able to run the ball very well against the Gophers, he just knew that in the end, Riley could not resist the urge to pass and he would and do just that. I have been a lifer following SC going back to 1967. During that time span, two fanbases warned us about our new football coaches. The Pitt fans came on board to warn us about Hackett. They were spot on. And the OU fans came around to warn us about Riley. So far, it is hard to argue successfully against their claims either. MJDavidson

ND & Brigham Young have an unfair advantage by sending players off on a Religious mission, bring them back bigger, stronger, more mature vs incoming 18-19 yr olds! Solution is, make them play out their eligibility, then go on the Religious mission” then graduate. Not tall teams can send players out to get bigger, stronger, more mature! BIG DIFFERENCE IN ND’s size on the O line, and D line!

Just to avoid any impropriety to the missionary work, how about sending the ND players out for missionary work after they complete their eligibility? Play ball after arrival, then get your 4 or 5 yrs eligibility accomplished. This applies to BYU as well! They have more married players, with kids, then any University I know about. I’m sure there are other schools doing Missionary work.
