    Mal 2 was reissued on the Milestone two-fer 'One And Two' which combines his first two Prestige date. Found a copy for cheap a few years ago.

      Came here to say the same; I've had that twofer for some years cheap. Happy to buy the new one two; I really like this cover and sound.

      Yes, I picked up a near-mint of 'One and Two' for $20.

    Thoroughly enjoyable review; I was thinking about buying this one-I like many of Mal Waldron's other records-and your favourable review has made up my mind. It never takes much to convince me to buy records! I found a mint copy of 'Spring', a mono BLP on a market stall here in the UK a couple of years ago; it was with four Jackie McLean originals, all mint BLPs. Probably my best-ever jazz find! Cheers.

    Great video. I particularly enjoyed your description of Waldron's approach to compositional structure.

    Awesome review me too have an original I was lucky to find a copy before the prices went crazy . I’m with you OJC did a marvelous job in the reissue . John Coltrane’s playing is so adventurous on this album definitely the star along with Mal Waldron’s modal playing .

    Great review! Thanks for also talking about the music which is sometimes lost in the discussion of jazz vinyl reissues.

    Dropped a hint to my wife that I'd like this and the OJC Lateef for my birthday around the corner. Great review! Thanks!

    Great video....as usual ;-) Wish it was only $39 in the UK, but Amazon UK has it at £49 or circa $62.

      Yup, I paid £43 for my copy, as usual we get screwed on any viny v buying in the US with a few exceptions

    Very well made review. As always. 😊
    Do you know, if these Craft OJC titles are a limited run? Or are they unlimited like the Tone Poets?

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know with certainty, however given that the corresponding label catalogs reside within the Concord family, as does Craft, there shouldn’t be any restriction from a licensing standpoint in terms of quantity. They also haven’t referenced that quantities are limited.

      Thanks! I was getting a little FOMO, because the Waltz for Debby is somehow not that easy to get, where I live. So maybe there will be a repress somewhere down the line.
      So far I have the Miles and the Monk/Coltrane of this series. They were easier to get and more reasonable priced...

    Forgot that one completely. My copy was downloaded from lime wire 15 years ago and is >1 hour 7 minutes long. 👌

    why dont you get a japanese pressing of the dealers?

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good idea, for some of these titles it’s the best option

      @@jazzvinylcollector better then a clean status version? I only have one status record in my collection and it’s VG anyway so I can’t really tell if the noise has always been there or not if you know what I mean.

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zacksjazz9172 I haven't heard a clean status pressing in my life. Every copy I've found has always been a heavy vinyl, hissy pressing that causes a pervasive noise floor across the entire recording. These days, I try not to buy them at any price, and I say "try" because there are those status pressings that hide behind the blue trident label sometimes and sellers don't often reference when albums are pressed on recycled vinyl

    • @zacksjazz9172
      @zacksjazz9172 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jazzvinylcollector I can’t blame a seller for not knowing what is and isn’t on recycled vinyl sometimes I try and look and I can’t notice from just looking at the records.

    • @thibs2442
      @thibs2442 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jazzvinylcollectorIn my experience most of the blue trident label status releases are not on recycled vinyl. I find those blue trident branded status are similar or the same as the blue trident non status branded reissues. I think it’s kind of a myth that most blue tridents were pressed on recycled vinyl.

    Do you actually play any of these instruments to be able to comment in detail as you do?

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I minored in music in college, with a particular focus on jazz performance and theory. My instrument was trumpet and I played in a few jazz combos as well as an Afro-Cuban group. I find some of the vocabulary has already escaped me as I haven’t played with any regularity in close to 20 years, so I don’t always express everything as eloquently as I’d like.

      Thank you for your reply. You seem to be so knowledgeable, I was curious. I enjoy you videos.

    The fact is that without a thorough knowledge of music theory and history, your stereo is merely an accessory of interior decoration. And if you don’t immediately hear and understand the difference between Mal Waldron, and Red Garland, and Ahmad Jamal, then you must admit that you love equipment not music, and would rather discuss Riga than recordings. You might as well be comparing editions of Led Zeppelin 4 with your McIntoshes, and tubes, and “interconnects!” 😂 Check out Mal’s All Alone record.
