What do you think it means to be a true lady? Also, be sure to check these etiquette rules if you wanna be a real lady th-cam.com/video/F19UQrXCY7w/w-d-xo.html
I was taught that a lady was kind to everyone and treated friend or stranger with respect and consideration. A lady can be dressed in rags and still retain her poise and dignity. I always think of the character Melanie, from Gone With The Wind, as being the epitome of a true lady.
Who said that sport is sport ..there is no man & woman in it!! If u act like cool dude than u will be called dude & even after a long run if u are eating ice cream or something & having fun with your girls..u are a lady..cs u aren't pretending to be something you are not!!
"better not to dance at all than to dance badly" as someone who has been taking dance lessons for over 7 years, i think i'm allowed to say that that is completely false. you have to start somewhere...
I disagree. I don't feel that I am a good free style dancer , and at age 50 it is embarrassing when a group of women insist that I must get out on the dance floor and shake my behind. I am a former competitive Ballroom dancer, so I prefer partner dancing and look good doing that.
So, Christine, you actually agree with the comment above. Partner dancing is still dancing. In fact it's the only kind of dancing that counts, since people who dance w/o partners often think they're dancing to entertain others. That's a pretty antisocial kind of dancing, because the funny part is, rarely does anyone watch them for entertainment. I don't like dancing as a spectator sport. I see it as a social activity, too, otherwise, I don't care to do it.
If you are wearing oversized sweater or any oversized item doesen't mean that you are not a true lady. A true lady would always say that no matter what, you should wear clothes that you feel good in.
There's a difference between a female and a lady as well as there's a difference between a man and a gentleman. If you don't want to follow these rules, don't be offended by just a term.
There's a difference between wearing an oversized sweater (which can actually be cute and are trendy), than wearing clothes that TRULY do not for you. Like wearing baggy boyfriend jeans is not the same as your jeans falling off you.
This is not being about lady, but about some common fashion mistakes. True lady is not fitness obsessed. There is a great difference between a lady and someone following latest suggestions by media.
Being a lady is in how you carry yourself and how you treat others: with confidence, dignity, care, and respect. The rest of the advice in this video is simply "how to conform to outdated expectations." Wear whatever makeup and shoes bring you joy!
but still... if I see a fake gucci bag I'd think that person was a wannabe model... this video actually has some good stuff. You should buy real ones or none at all
Agreed. These are setting expectations for us to be perfect at every moment of the day. What, are we not allowed to be comfortable? Even at home?? Nope. Cleary have to maintain our appearance at all times and not focus instead on how we act and treat others.
I guess,"lady" is a title which person gets from a noble family or from a noble husband. A always had such idea. Can not imagine how i can be"lady" if i,m from country, where we don't have any nobles? Am i right or wrong? Or they mean,we have to try to be dressed like real ladies?
blameitonablackstar I feel like its more polite to finish all of your food rather than leaving it for the sake of not wanting to look gross or get messed
I was raised to not accept food or drinks if you are a guest at someones house, because it's more polite. I was raised to always say, "bless you" no matter who sneezed. Whoever put this together must not really know what theyre talking about. Unless southern hospitality is just different.
So, your logic is, not wearing baggy clothes = yeast infections? I don't wear baggy clothes. Never have, and I never had an yeast infection. Have you ever heard of simply properly-fitting clothes? The implication of the video wasn't "don't wear baggy clothes, wear too-tightly-fitted clothes", it was what it said: a true lady doesn't wear baggy clothes, she wears properly fitting clothes, because baggy clothes - though comfortable for some (not for me, personally) - make you look clumsy, heavy, and larger than you are.
"She", as in "a true lady", as in "a true lady would never wear baggy clothes", which you are not because you choose to wear baggy clothes even though they're not lady like. Nothing wrong with that. Your choice. But that means you're not a lady. Ladies abide by certain etiquette rules. You can't be a lady, if you don't abide by them. You can't have your cake and eat it, too.
Being a lady or gentleman is about being the best possible version of yourself you can be, it is challenging, but very worthwhile. never put yourself or others down. learn how to accept a compliment. never discuss money with anyone besides your partner or accountant. Don't ask "what do you do for a living " ask, "what are your interests", be a good listener, don't act selfish, treat everyone with kindness and dignity from the CEO to the janitor
This is deep! I agree, you are the best lady you can be! This video is so stereotypical and a lot of people can’t afford like nice accessories and like what they have, even if it is cheap.
That's not what they are saying. They are saying to get items of "good-quality". This means good, sturdy fabrics that aren't going to fade, pill, or shrink. 100% cotton and thick denim, instead of flimsy nylon elastin polyblend that's made from petroleum byproducts. Second-hand stores are a treasure trove. You don't have to spend lots of $$ to get a good look if you are smart about it.
Or how about maybe people have learned from experience that exercising, eating right, not slouching, and putting your best foot forward is just a healthy way to live. Guys have lists like this too you know. A strong person wouldn’t be so easily offended by something like this.
Ellie May: by your comment it seems as though you don't know the first thing about being a strong person. The REAL strong people were the women who fought for equal rights. This video promotes the idea that a woman's value is based on her outward appearance rather than her thoughts and mind. It supports the ideology that all women should be the steriotypical "housewife" that follows the above guidelines set in place for her by her domineering husband. And I don't think anyone can learn anything good from that.
Faith Parlapiano Apparently you see what you want to see. This is just a video with some classic etiquette examples. It’s not telling you to do anything. It didn’t bring up rights, or suggest that outward appearance determines your worth. I’m not threatened by it’s suggestions. I’m sorry that you can’t see that.
Ellie May As a real lady that practices all these things from a young age, I agree with you. They are just narcissistic and egomaniacs that get easily offended and triggered. That's not ladylike behaviour. It's an entitled, spoiled, 12 year old brat behaviour, dependent on Facebook 'likes' to feel better.
@@blueturkeyneptune4996 I'm sorry you are body shamed. You are beautiful the way you are. It's sad that some people think they have the right to judge others. Their words say more about them than they do of you. Love yourself and accept yourself for who you are and I pray one day your opinion of yourself will mean more to you than theirs. Take care.
No. Just no. Being a lady is Emma Watson when she acts for what she stands for, inspiring girls and boys everywhere. Being a lady is when Zendaya actively speaks about the issues people of color face. Being a lady is being a beautiful warrior, no matter what, always brave and always strong. Be yourself, girls. Be fearless and powerful and unstoppable, because that's what makes a real lady, not handbags and facial beauty.
MrsSavannah75 Thank you so much, it really warms my heart to see such support to feminism and womanhood. What with all the fake feminists and haters out there, it is really great to end the day knowing that people like you- ALL of you are going to bring about an era of peace, power, joy and most importantly, equality.
@@lordgrompuluskevinribbiton4319 yeah because it's just as easy being a "gentleman" and a "lady". These tips are all superficial. Nothing to do with self character
A true lady knows herself and the rights of others. It is not about clothes but about who you really are . We can easily spot out a lady or not, through her behaviour 💖
really this is universal and applies to everyone. Everyone has the right to be respected. Judging a person on material items such as clothes, however, is shallow and disgusting. I agree with you
So being a lady now means that I need to please everyone by trying so hard at being perfect? A girl doesn't need to be perfect in order to be a lady, it's enough that she's respectful and respectable. I can't believe i wasted my 10 minutes eatching this.
Breaking stereotypes is the best quality a lady can have. You shouldn't be afraid to argue. It's okay to be a powerful lady. This video sounds like being weak and and not speaking up about what you feel.
Sophia Xu No one said that it was ok to look dreadful at an important meeting, but, to say that in every other situation a woman has to be uptight and not be herself? What a crock!
1: you people are saying that a lady should dress how she wants to dress. Who wants to dress in a suit EVER? Therefore, a lady should dress in pjs or hoodies to work every day. 2: we never said that a lady should be uptight. we said that she should dress appropriately and not embarrass herself. That is not the same thing. Also, a lady is supposed to be polite and respectful. If doing this is to not be yourself, then so be it. Better to be polite and respectful and not be yourself than to be rude and unlikable and to be yourself. This does not apply to other situations, however.
I'm sorry but this is upsetting and hilarious. Sense when did oversized sweaters and eating all your soup become unacceptable. Yikes if this is what "a lady" is I'm long gone. God bless you though ;)
Jasmine Foster *keeling over with laughter* I mean hhhhello! Apparently I stopped being a lady once I bust out with the genuine heart felt laughter I just shared. Or was it when I bought those really sexy white suede stilettos from Aldo... Comically interesting indeed!
So basically we don’t say anything, We’re not allowed to finish eating (or to eat at all), and we’re always sitting there like decorations. Oh and not to forget we look like a Barbie...... oh heck no! So many girls are struggling with stereotypes. This video is absolutely ridiculous. Just be yourself. That’s definitely enough to be a lady. [These people need some milk]
Funny how some of these are about generic mannerism while the other’s is about superficial things like clothes and “beauty” the remaining are just plain disrespectful to women (aka sexist!!). Honestly every single person has their own problems, no one’s going to stop and stare at you for hours pointing out every single “unladylike” trait that you have.
Amen! Worrying about what someone else wears? I can understand being polite, but, even though there are some things being worn nowadays that make me cringe, every one has the right to be who they are, and not conform to someones stiff ideals.
Me: eats entire soup bowl with hands after i have cooled with my breath on the go in my white high heels and oversized sweater while yelling an argument "You were saying?"
I've never heard sooo many stereotypes all together. If your intention was to educate some girl to be more civil, yea well...you did it in a wrong way. My opinion, of course...
I prefer being myself.. Being that lady as mentioned in the video is actually being self obsessed and self centered.... Btw No one's born to impress others! 😾
Exactly !! Now, ironically, as a true lady, by watching this, I have wasted my oh-so precious time because a true "lady" would never waste her time...lol😂
So I'm not a real lady if I am not feminine, don't conform to stereotypes, and lack fashion and makeup sense? I call BS. I love my oversized clothes and gender non-conforming habits. (No, I'm not nonbinary. I just have habits that anyone can have.)
Blue Lion I read on another comment chain that you were trying to imitate people whining. It kind of reminds me of when someone can't think of a good comeback, and they repeat what the other person said in a high-pitched voice.
I completely agree. I’m a 13 yr old girl and I think all of these are horrible stereotypes to push onto women and girls. If this is being a ‘lady’ then I never want be one.
This really addresses etiquette rules that are a bit outdated for today's standards. For example, the rules for fashion, or rules for social interfacing have changed a lot. There's nothing in there that address being on your cell phone while people are eating, etcetera. Or how many women still wear just pumps? There are rules for appropriate dressing for business, versus activewear and just casual wear. I do like bright side, but this is a bit rigid, because there are many different variations of appropriate behavior for women in different settings.. I do believe however, that many may not know how to handle a more formal situation, because it just doesn't seem like there are many opportunities to be very formal anymore. The characteristics of a true lady comes out in her attitudes, kindness and love. Some of us laugh loud and have many friends. That is the very thing that people love because it's genuine emotion. If the laughter is inappropriate, then that's a different story. Or loud laughter is in a place where you're supposed to be quiet like in a library. My personal belief is be genuine, be kind and truly love the people you are with. That's what makes you feminine and a true lady.
In the video and description it's stated that these "rules" are considered out-dated and old-fashioned by many. The only people I can see using these rules today are actual royalty. I'm assuming these ideas were created when society was a lot more formal, and less advance in technology, as well as by men. But yea, I agree with you. :)
Yah, I'm not giving up my oversized clothes to put on some tight clothes and be a lady, I'd rather feel comfortable and be myself instead of faking someone I will never be😁😎😋
Pity Party notice how they went on and on about how bad and improper baggy clothes are, yet the picture was a super tight shirt bursting at the buttons? It’s as if the folks providing photos and those providing voice over never shared any information.
Dude. Tight clothes are frowned upon too. :v You’re supposed to wear well fitted clothes. But maybe you’re like: “Clothes that actually flatter my body type and are comfortable? EWwwww. I will stick to making my clothes out of trash bags.🤤🤤🤤💕✨”
When did wearing a baggy shirts defined to be a true lady?! A true lady for me is the one who is very true to herself and not minding what other people would say to her. As long as she's happy, the lady in her would shine.
Yeah I assumed it would be a satirical or ironic video but no.. the judgmental tones are unbelievable I can't believe they published this lol. Can't we just aim to be our greatest versions?
This is bs. While good taste and poise is crucial, it's character that defines a lady. She reflects an overall attitude of calm confidence and graciousness. The details presented in this video just enforce the stigma that one cannot be a true lady without following 18th century boarding school rules and having the perfect outfit.
Here’s an idea for the title: “All of the stereotypical things you need to do to make no difference in your life at all except for the amount of comfort you feel daily”
"Better not to dance at all than to dance badly" so a true lady can never have fun? I think true lady doesn't care about what others may think of her and has a good time
Bright Side, Really? This is 2017, not 1917. I understand manners and etiquette. I had better! I am probably older than most subscribers, so I explain after. While graduating high school my parents had me signed up for a Cotillion. Yeah that's right. I was a Debutante in 1977. I did it under protest. Now the explanation. For those of you that don't know, a Cotillion is a dinner dance where young women who have become of age are presented to Society. (Not like I needed it. Being a cheerleader, I was known in Connecticut, NY, and Massachusetts) parents were having none of it. Anyway, all the girls had to find white gowns, and with a red rose in hand walked around to the stairs down to the dance floor when our names were called. Once in the center we had to curtesy 4 directions north, west, south and east and walk to our posit on the floor. The boys (escorts) marched down and around to us. Then we had to waltz. Then dance with our dads. Dinner was served and suddenly people were pulling liquor bottles out from I have no idea. But that was the best part of the night.
Verdell Shannon-Murray A Debutant in the south is presented to society but not usually in the manner you described. It's roots in the past are basically the parents are saying you are ready for dating and marriage . This is not true now . There is another coming of age when you are given by your parents a million + dollars . Usually 21 . This is for both male and female. Proper manners are always important.
katy goodrich This is where my painful Victorian era upbringing comes useful. Colours in clothing and footwear is very precise. Black is rarely worn, you wear black when mourning or a minor - yet important - meeting or formal event. Red is never worn, never not unless you want to set the record of being the most scandalous woman in the manor - in footwear the clothing is more lenient. Unless dress code is bright colours, romance or red you will rarely even see the colour red in your wardrobe (this is British etiquette standard the Spanish, Russian etceteras etiquettes do vary) though red us allowed during the festive season. Skin coloured clothing footwear is a waiting disaster. It blends too well with your skin and that is a key point as one must always tell your shoes from feet. Now it is precise - I will admit but if you follow it you are seen as educated. I wear bell gowns and corsets and you do not see my shoes but you still follow the code of clothing and footwear.
As soon as I saw #20 Wearing poor-quality fake designer items, I paused the video. Seriously no one should ever judge someone's character or personality by the material things. This is sad advice.
I don't wear designer items, real or fake, but I agree that it has nothing to do with being a lady or a gentleman. I have to admit, stockings do look much more elegant and classy than bare legs, unless maybe if they have a little suntan. I don't like pantyhose, but thigh highs are sexy. Then again, I wouldn't wear them with a short skirt unless they came extra high on my thighs. Loud people *are* annoying. People of both sexes would make a better impression if they were more soft spoken. I wouldn't care much what people do re dining in public, as long as they don't slurp their soup, chew with their mouth open, pick their teeth, or other crude and boorish antics. Tipping their soup bowl a bit doesn't bother me. "Please"es and "thank you"s are essential to good breeding, and "you're welcome," as well. Don't let doors shut in people's faces, thank someone if they hold a door for you, don't shove and push to get ahead of people waiting in a line, etc. Say "Excuse me", or "I'm sorry" if you do accidentally knock into someone. And, it goes without saying, never go off at a stranger in public because you don't approve of the way they look, the color of their skin, attire that's uncustomary in your culture, etc. Be gracious toward others.
I see lying as immoral, but how would a using or wearing a designer knockoff be lying? My late mother in law owned a few designer knockoff bags, and yet, she was rich as all git-out. Given how religious she was, I bet she would have been mightily offended if you called her a liar. Just what would she have been "lying" about, except that she was richer than she let on, since she could have afforded the real mccoys many times over, but chose to buy knock-offs? She grew up in the Great Depression, an alien concept to you (or me), but it left its mark. No matter how rich they got, in her mind, she was always poor. I don't like extravagance for its own sake, but then again, I don't scrutinize other women's handbags to see if they're designer or not, because the intrinsic artifice of status symbols and/or labels doesn't impress me. I seldom dress like an urbanite, (not with my lifestyle), but whether I do or not, I would wager I pull even an everyday outfit together better than most women I know. I didn't get that notion out of thin air, since I get complimented on my sense of style so often. Occasionally on a particular belt or accessory, but 99% of the time on my overall look. I accessorize always. That goes farther than a hundred Louis Vuitton handbags. But what does any of that have to do with being a lady? You can tell a lady by the way she behaves, and being fashionable may cement that notion, but it doesn't create it.
fancifulfilly I agree. A true lady and a gentleman is in his or her manner - how they treat themselves and others. To be presentable is key but I don't agree with things being designer. You don't need designer items to be classy. You just need grace and manner.
This the most sexist thing I have seen this year and to me being a "lady" means you are comfortable being yourself this video is just saying change your habits and do what is excepted by Society because apparently that is all that matters to some people
Obito Uchiha do you not understand what what they are saying they're telling people girls and women to change their outer appearance just to look good and societies eyes
I was taught all this in the 50's at a small age. My mom, taught us to be ladies. She taught us all and how to walk and talk. So, I find you can spot a real lady. And I don't see too many. But, my aunt always said I would rather BE A WOMEN.
PS Went to a dance studio and did something I never did at a professional function. I slouched...at the table...I was always taught from Mom to teacher to stop slouching ....but...it didn't help
A woman with a positive attitude. And there's a reason why men and women are different the way they are. I wouldnt be attracted to men if they were the same as women. I take pride in being a woman and expressing my femininity and every woman should feel free to express her OWN femininity in her OWN way. The world would be a lot less interesting if men and women were the same
Lei abunch of girls at my school do this probably gonna say that with a bad reaction but they have normal friends not like the wierd kids who hang out with wierd kids
"Godly women don't have to advertise. They just be. Their trust is in the Lord. The anointing makes them beautiful. It attracts and demands attention and respect all on it's own. It will catch the eye of any man who can recognize the true spirit of God. It is rare for a man to come at her disrespectfully because the God in her radiates like the bright sun. It says I am a woman of God. A princess. A daughter of the King of kings. Her very presence and spirit demands the best and nothing less. She is not desperate for anything, and her emotions are checked by the Holy Spirit. Her heart is in the hands of God, and God will not give it to a man who is unworthy of his daughters love"
you're free to be. But then there are some situations where good manners are everything. You will not come across the necessity for these rules often, but they are here for if you ever do need them.
What this video is promoting is not "good manners" because if it were, no one here would be offended. This video is obviously supporting the unrealistic stereotype that all women should act like they are perfect objects on a shelf and should only be valued based on their outward appearance and their so called "table manners". Why should we care more about what men value in a woman than what we value in ourselves?
That is horrific!!! It is ridiculous!!!! That is just being a robot or being program to be something so unnatural. Politeness and simplicity is much more true to being a human being that to follow some rediculous human create to restrict nature human behaviors to control another.
You're right. All women are beautiful the way they are. But if you are doing business or interviewing someone you'll have to follow the rules. It could .. let's just say.. ruin your work.
Brianny Perez Maturity is realizing that if you must accommodate yourself to fit standards you find uncomfortable, you should drop them. Wearing the right *heels* isn't being conscientious and courteous, it's an inconvenience. So is wearing pantyhose on a hot day, why must we suffer for standard? If someone tries to make us do things we don't want to, it's better we remove them.
They know it's wrong and that the click bait in their content is wrong, and they should be ashamed of themselves. But they don't care because they want to be as greedy as EA.
*watches video* *does the opposite of everything on this list, outside of a select few things* *is still a lady despite this* *murders anyone who says otherwise*
Ladies are not offended by someone's opinion, nor do they feel like they have to oppose something just for the sake of it. On top of that a lady would neither threaten, nor carry out violence against anyone else. Basically you aren't a lady. You are a woman granted, and probably a nice one all things considered, but a lady you are not.
Jixie Dye still these suggestions are ridiculously outdated. I mean for the most part I can understand why these are important to know in some society gatherings but to live your life like that all the time, nobody is perfect all the time, not even a lady, Im not exactly a classy lady if you look at My closet, but I AM one if you look to My personality, I might not wear pantyhose on an dailybasis and never high heels unless its a wedding or something, I dont need high heels to be a lady, I might be a no brand girl, but Im proud of the things I do and have.
20. Ok fair enough, don't be cheap, I agree. 19. Wear your size, yeah goes without saying with *anyone* 18. Slouching.... Yea been trying to fix my posture actually. 17. Ditto. Everyone should take care of themselves. 16. A little goes a long way. 15. So a small characteristic is going to "ruin" your reputation? That is sone weak reputation. 14. Don't finish your soup? You'll get cussed in certain households for wasting food. 13. True, don't whine and gossip. 12. OoOoOOo yea, don't laugh TOO loudly now, you'll disturb the equilibrium. 11. Well, if you're right, you're right. 10. Coffee is NOT food! - it is definately not a substitution! 9. Oh so we should lie and be fake? alright then. 8. The colour of my shoes is going to make me un-ladylike? kmt whatever. (nitpicking) 7. True, lateness is an enemy of progress. 6. Well, people do what they will. That has nothing to do with being lady like. 5. In certain places, if you don't say "bless you" you'd been seen as rude and selfish. Go figure. 4. Dress like you're going to church everyday basically. 3. SO WHAT IF SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO POISON YOU? just make sure you die... like a lady. 2. Certain "prestige" clubs and places DO NOT allow kitten heels nor flats, so good luck with that. (wear what you want!) 1. If you're hungry, you're hungry. How robotic do you need to be?
lol :D so true.. but about that being loud thing though. im a woman. but women these days make unnecessary noise when they speak. i find it rather unpleasant.
Altina agree with you on many points. But... 9. If you're right you're right? Like what? Depends what the subject is about. Some people consider their own opinion as a fact. When talking about political opinion for example there is no wrong and no right. If two people have an argument about democrats and republicans there is no wrong or right and you can disagree but that's just a matter of opinion there is no wrong or right. And forcing your opinion to others because you think only your opinion is right is totally childish. Thinking you are right but respecting the other is what's ladylike. Also it's gentleman like. Better said, respecting the other even though you think they're wrong and not forcing your version of right on the other is mature. 10. I think you missed the point here. Although they mentioned food and then talked about coffee the subject is about making time to sit down and eat or drink versus buying something quickly to go. 9. It's not about lying or be fake. It's about saving some conversations for another time when you've met someone more than once. I can throw my whole life story in your face but you'd be like: what the heck did I get myself into? Because you don't know me. The first time you meet with someone you don't know you don't throw your whole life story and personal details in his or her face. That's not being fake or lying. That's keeping some personal distance to strangers. Also if you blap to a stranger where you live and where you work you can get yourself in dangerous situations depending on the stranger you are talking with. Small talk is enough for people you meet for the first time. Trust has to be earned. An ordinary girl gives trust right away and risks her own safety with it. 4. Church is a place where respect should be shown. But there are many more places where respect should be shown (many types of work in an office, important meetings) so indeed yes, if you have an important meeting and you don't know what to wear think about wearing what you'd wear to church. Logical. 3. Keeping some personal distance to strangers is okay but when you're visiting family or friends or acquaintances you can trust them not to throw poison in whatever drinks they are offering you. If you actually however think that your family in law will throw poison in something to drink you just stay away and don't visit. Tell them politely on the phone you already have an appointment and can't go. That way you don't have to be rude declining a drink filled with poison. :P 1. Hungry they are in Africa. There survival comes before etiquette. But in countries that do have the privilege to think about etiquette there's no such hunger. There's only appetite. You can easy take a spoon full of soop and wait 20 seconds before putting it in your mouth. It doesn't matter if you finish a plate of soup in 2 or 20 minutes, it won't fill you more if you eat it more quickly. Actually taking your time to eat doesn't only look more decent, it makes you more conscious of the food too and enjoy and appreciate it more.
A woman should be able to express her opinion with poise and etiquette. If a subject she wishes to discuss, she gradually and strategically work her way to the point. Got it!
"She would never wear baggy clothes just because they're comfortable." yea okey LADY but i literally wear BAGGY CLOTHES because they're COMFORTABLE and so my style hahahahahah
I can't laugh loudly? Well I guess I'm not a 'real' lady. A lot of this is really frustrating, I'm sorry I can't afford designer handbags. All the stuff about not listening to people whining or gossiping; sometimes it's nice to be listened to even if you know you're whining.
pilgrimsister I don't like designer's labels emblazoned all over something like a purse. To me, that is not ladylike. I do like quality stuff and am on a small budget, which is why I go to thrift stores. I also don't like seeing the current fashion of leggings. To me it looks like they are running around in their underwear!
I'll eat on the go whenever I please and not all of us are so priveliged as to rearrange our schedule for coffee. I'm taking four ap classes, on of which is a advanced college level European history class, I'm in drama, play four different sports, coach and umpire for little league baseball and softball, and maintain a 4.3 gpa. And I'm only a freshman in high school So don't tell me When I can eat. And I'll order pizza if I want to.
Didn't they tell you that a REAL LADY should be seen and not heard? Like children? This is so much outdated malarkey, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry... oops, sorry, crying is not manly...
That's not true. For example my brother's fiancee works for my father in a very highly paid job. She works very hard too. And she's just had to go to the company's christmas party in a very posh london hotel. It's a ball where she has to wear a ballgown and everything. These skills would come in handy then.
what I learnd at fashion design school sometime beige or white heels are better than black , black dosn't always look good with everything. It is all abut color shade.
Bright Side maybe you're unsure of yourself about making this video. Because every female is different and how they carried themselves. Who are you to judge what a female do that's her business, not yours.
this is just a research result if u accept it f9 if not what is the problem don't bother this too much after all they are not imposing this on u it was ur choice 2 watch this video
Ancient Sumerian You need to go out your home and meet more woman in my opinion ;) if you believe that is because you know a little group of woman that act like the stereotype, or maybe you believe in the publicity with this idea.
I am stunned by this! And actually quite concerned about younger girls who may think...”Another thing I’m supposed to be”. I had to stop video after I heard...”a lady never argues her choice...” WHAT?! I really felt compelled to post a comment for fear of otherwise feeling that by not speaking up/standing up; I’d be condoning it. Ladies: Wear what you want! Speak your mind! And ALWAYS stand up for yourself. 💓
This is not what a true lady is a true lady helps people and cares and can stand up for herself and others even if she wears baggy clothes or eats fatting food (Also this means Im not a true lady )
I just watched for like 2 min and feels like it's telling girls to buy expensive stuff and focus on just you reputation... Thats not what a person should do
We’re all humans. It’s just like racism and sexism. We can really be who we want. I have family members who tell me not to laugh loudly because I’m grown up but when I have friends that are guys or like someone, they say I’m too young and I’m like -_-
Welp, I guess I'll never be a lady ;-; like I have to finish ma soup yo! Food is GOLD!!! *shouts "gold" to emphasize on the talking loudly thing* WHOSE WITH ME???
I don't think you have to be always in style to be a lady. Some days you feel like dressing up some days you don't. Why not wear an oversized sweater or baggy clothes , if that's what you are comfortable wearing. I think it's confidence that matters the most . If you are not confident with what you are wearing your clothes won't make any difference. I feel a lady is who treats everyone the way they should be treated and nothing less. I don't think clothing has much to do with it. I am sure you people made this video for girls like me to learn something, but honestly this tip in particular is not useful. We should be proud of the fact that girls today can do pretty much anything they want and not go back to a time where you had to do what you were told to. I just want to say to all the girls out there: dress the way you want not the way you should to be a lady. Wear what you want not what you are told to. You guys are perfect the way you are you don't have to be a lady for anyone else. Just be yourself. All of you guys know that the real you is better than any fake version of yourself. Love yourself. That's all.
I have a concern about this video, it's mentioned that a lady must have proper manners, but later it's mentioned that a lady must ignore a complete stranger when they sneeze. From my personal experiences, that's considered a contradiction. Saying "bless you" to everyone, even a complete stranger is using proper manners. For the record, I don't know if you got the majority of these "proper etiquette rules" from the mideval time period or something, but modern society values manners and therefore should also value honesty. The truth of the matter is that modern society should value generosity, honesty, laughter, kindness, loyalty, and the magic of friendship. If a lady shouldn't use her manners and say "bless you" to a complete stranger then she is no true lady because a true lady knows that she must treat strangers like her friends and loved ones. A true lady and a true gentleman know to treat even complete strangers the way we want to be treated no matter what society thinks these days. In other words my dear aquantance, this particular video is complete bs, for the most part.
What do you think it means to be a true lady?
Also, be sure to check these etiquette rules if you wanna be a real lady th-cam.com/video/F19UQrXCY7w/w-d-xo.html

a true lady is someone who isnt shallow and fake
To be a true lady u dont let others define what a true lady is
I was taught that a lady was kind to everyone and treated friend or stranger with respect and consideration. A lady can be dressed in rags and still retain her poise and dignity. I always think of the character Melanie, from Gone With The Wind, as being the epitome of a true lady.

What happen to fun?
I am trying to brag but I was 6 when I started gymnastics and then I quit and now I am in dance lol

If you are wearing oversized sweater or any oversized item doesen't mean that you are not a true lady. A true lady would always say that no matter what, you should wear clothes that you feel good in.
And that don't have huge chocolate stains on them... Or is that just me?
No, no. Being a "lady" obviously means being fake, not being true to yourself and trying to live up to some ridiculous, made up ideal. Get it?
A true lady does not criticize others clothes or appearance, I say!
Its true 👍
Being a lady is in how you carry yourself and how you treat others: with confidence, dignity, care, and respect. The rest of the advice in this video is simply "how to conform to outdated expectations." Wear whatever makeup and shoes bring you joy!
but still... if I see a fake gucci bag I'd think that person was a wannabe model... this video actually has some good stuff. You should buy real ones or none at all

Being a lady is about character and inner beauty!
Agreed.
These are setting expectations for us to be perfect at every moment of the day. What, are we not allowed to be comfortable? Even at home?? Nope. Cleary have to maintain our appearance at all times and not focus instead on how we act and treat others.
I’m a lady and I don’t follow most of the outdated things mentioned here. As a woman we know when we are being classy or not.

Right. A lot of this is BS, expensive, and stuffy. Just be your unique self, and caring and considerate of others.

"She would never wear baggy clothes just because they're comfortable."
Excuse you, I certainly WILL wear baggy clothes because they ARE comfortable.
Love me some baggy clothes too...That Lady will probably have a lot of yeast infections too...lol tackle that bright side.
Oversized is in style now.

Drink Your Nail Polish i completely agree !!!
I am going to wish a “bless you” to everyone because we need it. thanks
Women, we being strong and independent is enough. We don’t need stereotypical ‘rules’ to dictate how we should act and look.
Hayleigh Dixon bless this comment! 👐🖒
"She would never wear baggy clothes just because they're comfortable" .... seriously? ...
That's exactly why you should wear them.

No. Just no. Being a lady is Emma Watson when she acts for what she stands for, inspiring girls and boys everywhere.

This video sounds like being weak and and not speaking up about what you feel.
it's ok to be a lady and slouch all the time and not take care of yourself and look dreadful at important meetings... yeah
MrsSavannah75 exactly!!

Funny how some of these are about generic mannerism while the other’s is about superficial things like clothes and “beauty” the remaining are just plain disrespectful to women (aka sexist!!). If Brightside wants to be taken seriously don't put out videos on how to be a true lady in 2017
Hahaha 😂😂😂 Why?
Well as it's already stated, good manners never go out of style.

Rosy Raincloud Yeah I guess
Basically.
This is bs. While good taste and poise is crucial, it's character that defines a lady. She reflects an overall attitude of calm confidence and graciousness. The details presented in this video just enforce the stigma that one cannot be a true lady without following 18th century boarding school rules and having the perfect outfit.

"Better not to dance at all than to dance badly" so a true lady can never have fun? I think true lady doesn't care about what others may think of her and has a good time
Agree
Being a true lady is just being polite and considerate not all of this
Bright Side, Really? But that was the best part of the night.
it sounds wonderful
Ikr
Not seeing the point?
Lol I was a Debutante also
Verdell Shannon-Murray A Debutant in the south is presented to society but not usually in the manner you described. It's roots in the past are basically the parents are saying you are ready for dating and marriage . This is not true now .
There is another coming of age when you are given by your parents a million + dollars . Usually 21 . This is for both male and female.
Proper manners are always important.

Don't tell "ladies" what to do.
What does the color of my heels have to do with being seen as a lady?
katy goodrich probably just avoid the clear heels
Nothing says pole faster 🤪🤣🤣🤪
lolxxxxx
I remember my grandmother being so adamant on that one. No white piece of visible clothing anywhere and I love white button downs.
katy goodrich
This is where my painful Victorian era upbringing comes useful.
I wear bell gowns and corsets and you do not see my shoes but you still follow the code of clothing and footwear.
katy goodrich i dont even like heels
"You just need to look neat, presentable, and well groomed at any moment of your life."
Well then...
Cupcake Sprinkles that one really got me 😄 I'm ill at the moment so I guess in breaking that rule! lol
My grandmother used to say that all the time. You never know who you will meet, or if the doorbell will ring.
It's saying don't try and fake it. Buy the real thing, or wear a different brand. Don't try to lie...
This is not advice. This is how to control women, again and again.
fancifulfilly I agree. A true lady and a gentleman is in his or her manner - how they treat themselves and others. To be presentable is key but I don't agree with things being designer. You don't need designer items to be classy. You just need grace and manner.
They first need a video on how to be a broadminded, non-judgmental human 😂😂 I'll finish my soup and yours too!
Charvi S. some people are interested. If you are not, just move on.
A true lady is someone who doesn't judge other people based on their look. Let's see who can finish their soup first😂😂
@@annieyummmm Dude its 2021 who cares bout bean' a lady at all but tomboys are confident, positive and passionate TOMBOYS ROCK.
So basically being a true lady means not being a person at all?
Tanya Sinha true
Preach it
And it means being pretentious...Because now someone will have to pretend to be who they are not...It's ok to be yourself
U are right
This the most sexist thing I have seen this year and to me being a "lady" means you are comfortable being yourself this video is just saying change your habits and do what is excepted by Society because apparently that is all that matters to some people
Obito Uchiha do you not understand what what they are saying they're telling people girls and women to change their outer appearance just to look good and societies eyes
Nowadays its about money and reputation
I agree with you so much
It was always about money, power and reputation.
I am 100% with you on that. Just look at my comment lol
this is extreme etiquette FOR ladies, not how to be a lady.
Lilja Morris for grandma's you mean
Lilja Morris i dont wanna be a lady im a Boyish girlish girl
skorpia g looking presentable doesn't mean that you have to be outdated
Lilja Morris yes you are right
I was taught all this in the 50's at a small age.
Also, A “Real Lady” wouldn’t be making a video like this trying to tell every other girl how to be a “Proper Lady”
DAYUM
thank you
Savage
Omg yes 😂😂
Anastasia Ferguson agreed 💛😃
Be a girl with a mind , a women with a attitude and a lady with class ....
A woman with a positive attitude. And there's a reason why men and women are different the way they are. I wouldnt be attracted to men if they were the same as women. I take pride in being a woman and expressing my femininity and every woman should feel free to express her OWN femininity in her OWN way. The world would be a lot less interesting if men and women were the same
And?.. No girl has to be a lady... Just be somebody you are..
Lei abunch of girls at my school do this probably gonna say that with a bad reaction but they have normal friends not like the wierd kids who hang out with wierd kids
Lei guess u were raised in a barn
Sharon Fleming guess u were raised in a stereotypical house
Wrong, they/we will still very much get disrespectful guys.
I can't stand women like that

you're free to be. But then there are some situations where good manners are everything. You will not come across the necessity for these rules often, but they are here for if you ever do need them.
Well apparently you cant according to bright side 😂
I agree
Ellies Moon go for it!!

This is fit for a lady host
Not an everyday lady
I remember following similar rules when playing host to some guest

If you want to become a real lady, just dress the way you want and chose clothes in which you feel comfortable and confident in.
Anyone else feel like they clicked into the 1920s? I got about 2 minutes in and my only assumption was this is meant as a satirical joke.
Is this for real, like, I don't need you to tell me how to act to be a lady. We are amazing all by ourselves, we don't need these fake rules.
yeah you tell 😠😠😠
You're right. All women are beautiful the way they are. But if you are doing business or interviewing someone you'll have to follow the rules. It could .. let's just say.. ruin your work.
Kitty BB watch me
Midnight Prince you’re interpreting this the wrong way
not every man is a gentleman nor every women is a lady
So you must stop being yourself and feeling confy just to improve what others think about you.
This is so wrong
Uhh, no you must adjust yourself not change everything about you. You can still keep your true colors it's just teaching women how to mature.
Lorena Nagy 👍
Brianny Perez No, you don't have to adjust yourself. You're fine the way you are.
after watching this video, I choose to be an ordinary girl. Yeah, that's more comfortable
*watches video*
*does the opposite of everything on this list, outside of a select few things*
*is still a lady despite this*
*murders anyone who says otherwise*
MISS MR your a women not a lady
Ladies are not offended by someone's opinion, nor do they feel like they have to oppose something just for the sake of it. On top of that a lady would neither threaten, nor carry out violence against anyone else. Basically you aren't a lady. You are a woman granted, and probably a nice one all things considered, but a lady you are not.
Lady Schmady all I know is that the best thing you can be is yourself!
well that's true but you can make 'yourself' better. Learning and growing is the best thing. Nothing and nobody stays as they are forever.
19. Wear your size, yeah goes without saying with *anyone*
(nitpicking)
(wear what you want!)
1. If you're hungry, you're hungry. How robotic do you need to be?
EXACTLY my toughts
lol :D so true.. but about that being loud thing though. im a woman. but women these days make unnecessary noise when they speak. i find it rather unpleasant.
And they said that men are worse than women. Some logic wow😒
Ravindi Galagamamudali and men
And spend my whole life trying to be flawless "lady" to please everyone but myself? No no!
Pretty Liar GOOD POINT
Being a true lady is you have to be a smart lady. That's all. Bcs etiquette can be different too depending on the situation.
So playing with your hair or moving your leg too much can ruin your reputation
Daddys BTS Actually yes. I Know it seems weird but..yes..check out "sheraseven" all of this girl power rah rah is ruining our TRUE p0wer...

I like my baggy sweater!!! They make me comfy and chill.
Just be happy for who you are and what you decide that is best for yourself.
Having an oversized sweater does not mean you're Just an ordinary girl. 👍
YAY!!!
MagnificentM
Same I love them
A woman should be able to express her opinion with poise and etiquette. If a subject she wishes to discuss, she gradually and strategically work her way to the point. Got it!
I am going to do as I please. If that includes eating food on the go, then so be it.
"She would never wear baggy clothes just because they're comfortable."
yea okey LADY but i literally wear BAGGY CLOTHES because they're COMFORTABLE and so my style hahahahahah
Nicki Tyler Min Yoongi🙂
No loud laughing? Oh, I'm sorry, did my happiness offend you? Is my passionate personality and boisterous laugh ladylike?
No. It's not.
IKR?!? I snort when I laugh :)
Sd bringazi same here keep it up why we change our personal habits for world
Didn't they tell you that a REAL LADY should be seen and not heard? Like children? This is so much outdated malarkey, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry... oops, sorry, crying is not manly...

That's not true. For example my brother's fiancee works for my father in a very highly paid job. She works very hard too. And she's just had to go to the company's christmas party in a very posh london hotel. It's a ball where she has to wear a ballgown and everything. These skills would come in handy then.

Some people live to please others. They care only about what others think of them. A very sad existence but these people do exist
what I learnd at fashion design school sometime beige or white heels are better than black , black dosn't always look good with everything. It is all abut color shade.
Emila beige yes white no. Your teacher must have been daft.

Bright Side maybe you're unsure of yourself about making this video. Because every female is different and how they carried themselves. Who are you to judge what a female do that's her business, not yours.
Lol, just because society says something, this does not mean it's true, how nieve is that?
this is just a research result if u accept it f9 if not what is the problem don't bother this too much after all they are not imposing this on u it was ur choice 2 watch this video
Its a criteria to be a lady not a female
This is not what a true lady is a true lady helps people and cares and can stand up for herself and others even if she wears baggy clothes or eats fatting food
(Also this means Im not a true lady )
I just watched for like 2 min and feels like it's telling girls to buy expensive stuff and focus on just you reputation...

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111
