  • The poesm "Daffodils" wirtten in 1804 by William Wordsworth read by the actor Sir Jeremy Irons.
    ---
    Sir Jeremy Irons has really incredible voice.
    Background: photos from Internet. Daffodils and Jeremy Irons as he appears in "Elisabeth".
    ---
    "Daffodils" (1804)
    I wander'd lonely as a cloud
    That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
    When all at once I saw a crowd,
    A host, of golden daffodils;
    Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
    Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
    Continuous as the stars that shine
    And twinkle on the Milky Way,
    They stretch'd in never-ending line
    Along the margin of a bay:
    Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
    Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
    The waves beside them danced; but they
    Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
    A poet could not but be gay,
    In such a jocund company:
    I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
    What wealth the show to me had brought:
    For oft, when on my couch I lie
    In vacant or in pensive mood,
    They flash upon that inward eye
    Which is the bliss of solitude;
    And then my heart with pleasure fills,
    And dances with the daffodils.
    By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

    Oh, how I adore this man. His voice is silk and stone to me, he ambles, whispers, lithe and visceral, crisp and sweet, he sleeps where even answers ask to be withheld if only so to keep him here a breath longer, a breath along through Time, and from the pulsing of his seeth and seed all the ages' screaming speak their peace.

    Often times these classic poems are read without any expression, but I like this rendition of Wordsworth. Irons has just enough expression while leaving his voice cool and even. Great balance,

    I got to this page after watching a Simpsons episode that had a talking rag (that used to be a tapestry). I waited for the credits, then searched on TH-cam. Indeed his voice is its own melody. Hopefully your phone book will have some rhyme in time, and moments for creative pause to tie it all together...

    some more of a contemplative mood would have been more suitable for this poem, but what can i say, im just a stranger....anyway, this is one if the most extraordinary works of english language to me, i use to admire it from time to time....and now, in times of political turmoil and exhaustion, when the same language is condemned to transport such ugly and unreasonable contents as in the 2020 american mess, this poem is still a source of a tiny consolation for me as a little stranger...

    yo vagaba tan solo como una nube
    Que flota en los altos valles y colinas,
    Cuando de repente vi una multitud,
    Un anfitrión, de narcisos dorados;
    Al lado del lago, debajo de los árboles.,
    Revoloteando y bailando en la brisa.
    Continua como las estrellas que brillan
    Y centellea en la vía láctea,
    Se estiraron en una línea interminable
    A lo largo del margen de una bahía:
    Diez mil me vieron de un vistazo,
    Sacudiendo sus cabezas en baile alegre.
    Las olas a su lado bailaban; pero ellos
    Superó las brillantes olas en alegría:
    Un poeta no podía sino ser gay.,
    En una empresa tan jocund:
    Miré, y miré, pero poco pensé
    Qué riqueza me trajo el espectáculo:
    A menudo, cuando estoy en mi sofá miento
    En estado vacante o pensativo,
    Destellan sobre ese ojo interno
    Cuál es la dicha de la soledad;
    Y luego mi corazón con placer se llena,
    Y baila con los narcisos.
