Beautiful build! My WR250F is so fun to ride, the 300 does the job but the 250f has a better smile factor! With all the racing you do I’m surprised you don’t run bibs..anything with air will go flat at some point. Granted we ride lots of rocks so added insurance. Look forward to your 23’ race season!

Nice setup. I set my KTMs up the same way for the most part. I run bibs though. Those ODI grip ends should pop right out after you cut them with the razor. I've never had to drill them out. Good afternoon, I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend So I’ve been so pumped up I’m getting a 23 YZ 250 FX I found one last month and bought one. I’m coming off two strokes for the last 15 years my last bike before my new 250 FX 2003 YZ race bike desert, racing GP. I figure you know, I’m gonna try for stroke for some of my races. Nice to have that nice roll in power tractable and of course the electric button broke my bike in yesterday. The clutch was gone by the 7 mile. Returned it to the dealer right after getting towed back the same day yesterday. Service manager comes out the first thing he says well heck there’s no play in the clutch aftermarket clutch. Love you put on there. I said of course there’s not. I try to adjust the cable thinking it got stretched however, I know there’s about a quarter inch or so a play on the clutch when you replace the OEM that’s what I have the same play on my 03 yz 250. so irritated with the service manager. Of course, he said I hope YAMAHA warranties since it’s an aftermarket clutch lever I’m not a certified mechanic, however I’m 57 years old and probably done more top ends than the service managers age . Curious to find out next week if they would be honest on when they break into the clutch housing assembly I’m really hoping to love this bike . My last three race bikes were an 04 300 KTM 08 200 KTM 03YZ 250. Thank you for your videos I know it takes time and you’re knowledge
Cool to see what you do to setup a bike. I did similar with tires but go with a mousse up front and tubliss in back. We have a lot of rock up here and the mousse just makes it so nice. I need to spend some time this winter pulling my bikes apart and greasing everything good. Great video dude!👍
Thanks for watching Randy! Mousse’s are a great option too. Manufacturers must save a lot of money on grease these days because they sure don’t use much.

Did you have to remove your pegs on the kick stand side to install those frame guards? If so what size bit did you use to remove the pegs. My frame guard does not go on with the kickstand. I’ve got the same bike as you.
You don’t need to remove the pegs or the kickstand bracket. You have to trim the plastic on the frame guard a little. They made the frame guards for the 250F and didn’t consider the kickstand bracket on the FX.
Great riding enjoy the videos. Question: Have you ever tried the Bridgestone m59 front tire? Just curious about its durability when way out in the boon docks. Thanks!

Hi Donnie, have you considered installing a 2021-23 YZ250F airbox ? It has a bigger volume with a better intake velocity stack . I installed one in my 2021 WR250F and it breathes much better and has more power . Its a cheap mod that works well , I have the Rekluse Radius CX auto clutch and a left hand rear brake master cylinder on the left side too. I have two levers ,one for the clutch over ride and one for the rear brake ! Its way better than a foot brake because you have such fine braking control . WR's come standard with the WIFI ECU in Australia . Regards Adam Troy Australia
Regarding the acerbis frame guards, did you have to modify the guard on the kickstand side of the bike? The footpeg and kickstand seem to interfere with guard placement for me.
Yes, I always have to trim those a small amount around the kickstand bracket. I think they designed them for the F model and didn't consider the kickstand on the FX.
You're an inspiration Donnie! I love your attention to detail and frankly you would make a great neighbor! (lol) Would you happen to know the torque spec on that big bolt for the linkage at 5:59 ?
I'm not sure I'm good enough to tell which differences are frame feel. The bikes are extremely different to ride. For me the biggest thing I notice when getting back on a KTM or Husqvarna is the drastic difference in riding position. Yamahas are more compact with distance between the pegs, seat and handlebars.
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie Ok thank you. I have a GasGas 300 right now. I’m 6’1” and I find the open layout very comfortable for me. I’m interested in a 4 stroke so I’ll look to the GasGas EXF models then.
I use the clutch like a manual clutch 99% of the time and I already had the hydraulic setup prior to installing the Rekluse. I installed the Rekluse primarily for better Harescramble dead-starts.
I currently have a 2021 250FX and I am thinking about getting a 2023 model. Were there many/any changes in these bikes from 21 to 22 and now 23 model? Thanks, nice build and nice vid. Good luck at the races.
Hey Donnie, what makes you choose the AT81 over the stock MX33? I've been running AT81s for 2 years, but recently rode a friend's bike (same model as mine) with the MX33 and I was blown away by the traction and braking feel in the wet, steep conditions we were riding that day. As always, appreciate your content.
Thanks for watching! I like the MX33F on the front but not crazy about it on the rear. I've had the opposite experience from you there. To me, the AT81 braking, side-hill/off-camber and turning traction are much better than the MX33. Also, (again, my opinion) the AT81 continues to perform well after the edges are worn and the MX33 falls off drastically after the first few hours.
That’s a good question and I didn’t address it in the video. There are a couple of reasons. The main advantage of Tubliss (in my opinion) is being able to run lower pressure, and in the rear tire that helps with traction. That’s not true for the front in Harescramble/sprint enduro type riding, the front tire needs to hold its shape to handle well. Some hard enduro guys use tubliss and gummy tires on the front and it makes sense in that situation. Tubliss on the front is also more finicky to install due to the narrower rim and unless you balance the wheel, it creates a out of balance vibration at 3rd gear and up speeds (tubliss does this on the rear too but it's more noticeable on the front). The cons outweigh the pros for my specific situation.
Whoa donnie you did a number on that, lovely bike great video as always. Ps could do you a noob guide to suspension, all the guides I've seen so far miss aload of info and miss the basics
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie just how the basic adjustments work, I've watched about 5 now and they say oh yeah turn this clockwise but then don't really tell you what it does when you do it! You have a great way of explaining things and how stuff works 👍🏻
Hey Donnie have you thought of bolting on the GYTR head for fx250 - GNCC rider Mike Witkowski runs it adds more power through power band (easier to ride) less shifting works great with the wide ratio powerband - he drops down to a 50 tooth sprocket - bolts right on I'm thinking I will put on my 2021 fx250 eventually - I ride moto x also and would be great for that also - there is a youtube video showing everything they do to his 250fx - th-cam.com/video/zkEXotvVfII/w-d-xo.html

Thanks for watching! I’ve heard of others doing the airbox mod. I may eventually do that.
What exhaust do you run?
Nice video, hope to see more soon, thanks.
I’m running the stock exhaust for now. Thanks for watching!
Suprised to see you didnt take some width off those stock bars.
I did. I completely removed the stock bars and put on the bars I always run.
You're an inspiration Donnie! I love your attention to detail and frankly you would make a great neighbor! (lol) Would you happen to know the torque spec on that big bolt for the linkage at 5:59 ?
Thanks for watching! It’s 52 ft lbs but it would be hard to get a torque wrench on it.
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie Thank you! Yeah would need an adapter to get a torque wrench in there. I was relived to see you doing by it hand as well!
Do you notice a difference in the feel between an aluminum frame bike versus a KTM or Husky? I’ve never ridden one in tight woods.
@@lostinpa-dadenduro7555 Yeah, I know a few taller guys that say the Yamaha feels cramped.
Just curious why you would spend the money on a hydraulic clutch system when you have a Rekluse installed?
I use the clutch like a manual clutch 99% of the time and I already had the hydraulic setup prior to installing the Rekluse. I installed the Rekluse primarily for better Harescramble dead-starts.
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie I had an 18 250fx, great bike.
I currently have a 2021 250FX and I am thinking about getting a 2023 model. Were there many/any changes in these bikes from 21 to 22 and now 23 model? Thanks, nice build and nice vid. Good luck at the races.
Great question! My next video will address this.
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie Forget the 33 and 81. Try an M59 and you'll never go back. Greatest offroad front tire on earth.
Any reason you don't use tubeless on the front as well?
Sorry if I missed it in the video :)
Thanks! Are you talking about suspension settings?
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie just how the basic adjustments work, I've watched about 5 now and they say oh yeah turn this clockwise but then don't really tell you what it does when you do it! You have a great way of explaining things and how stuff works 👍🏻
Its a sad world of manufacturing when you wrap up 10k in a new bike then have to rebuild it to make it dependable.
Thanks for watching! I may be a little OCD, lol.
Hey Donnie have you thought of bolting on the GYTR head for fx250 - GNCC rider Mike Witkowski runs it adds more power through power band (easier to ride) less shifting works great with the wide ratio powerband - he drops down to a 50 tooth sprocket - bolts right on I'm thinking I will put on my 2021 fx250 eventually - I ride moto x also and would be great for that also - there is a youtube video showing everything they do to his 250fx -

Hey Steve, Sorry for the delay responding. TH-cam hid the comment for approval because of the link and I just found it. Thanks for that info. I need to look into it, sounds like a great upgrade. Thanks for the info!
@@DirtBikingwithDonnie glad you found that -
If at first you don’t succeed lower your expectations. 😂
Eagle eye! You must be watching on a 4K big screen.
Just buy a KTM. I have both. Trust me.
I’ve owned all major dirt bike brands except Suzuki. I’ve had several KTMs. I’m not brand loyal but currently I’m getting better race results on the yz250fx.
