I remember reading boxing champion Jeff Fenech's book how he and the other lighter weight class boxers in the Aussie team in LA would all be having light meals to keep their weight down while he'd look over and see Dean Lukin and the other weightlifters munching their way through steaks that would see Fenech go from Bantamweight to Light Heavyweight overnight lol

I was 14 and proud to be Australian when Deno won that gold medal 🥇. Not long after it he lost a lot of weight. Just wouldn’t of recognised him after the weight loss.

I know 10 kgs is a lot but the 1988 maximum clean and jerk was 250 in this weight class. I remember watching this as a kid, great moment.

I think the best performace of recent times was the Iranian Hercules. Hossein Rezazadeh.
    Was magnificent to watch.

None of these lifters would even make a top ten if soviets and Bulgarians were participating. Great competition nonetheless.

Yeah, '84 could be referred to as the 'Asterisk Olympics'.

Hey Dean did great but let's be honest if the socialist/communist nations were there he woulda got smashed.
They held their own games at the same time, Pisarenko beat Lukins lifts by 50kg.

To be in the front row of a Super Heavyweight comp a World champs or Olympics. its better than anything else on Earth. You are barracking for the lifter, everyome is equal. The weight has been liftred, the record set, who did it is not important at that instant.
    Surprisingly very humble blokes.
