I always keep Equipment clean and well lubricated, either with original Stihl products or at least WD-40. I even spray a bit on the blade of my hedge trimmers before cutting. And dont forget to grease the gearhead on trimmers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers etc.
Have to say, I'm the best at cleaning my garden machinery. When I do it, I generally just jetwash it, and then grease it up! Seems to work, my HS81R has seen 9 years of commercial use, with only 1 service, and it works perfectly!
When I was cutting full time my boss took my saw away one night and cleaned it. He used derv mixed with paraffin, cleaned all the resin and muck off. Handling it for the next few days was like holding an eel with soapy hands, never let him do it again. The Stihl products are much nicer
@MachineryNation I asked stihl about this, I'm only saying what they said back to me, perhaps over time I don't know. I spray my saw with würth silicone spray it's very easy to clean after. Maybe email stihl about it?
Thats the proper way to do it, i use a air compressor and a hand held steam cleaner removes stubborn sap off my chainsaws in seconds and grease my machine once in a while 😉

Same with mine, but that was when they made things properly 😂
I’ve been spraying WD40 onto my Makita hedge trimmer for over 10 years. No rust and no problems. It is stored, once covered in WD40, in a scabbard.
Nice one James Thanks again
Nice work!
Thanks Jeremy, I hope you are well bud 👍🏼

Haha, I can imagine Al! Thanks for sharing mate 👍🏼
Stihl have advised that the vario cleaner may remove the shine from plastic parts only for use on metal.
I have not heard this, interesting. This was the eco version, so maybe the reason 🤷🏼♂️

I am going to disagree re WD 40 on hedge trimmer blades when finished. This is my go to for the last 30 years.
If anything it keeps resin at bay.
I don’t think it is so bad if the trimmer is used regularly but if left for a while like most then this defo happens 👍🏼
