    Perfect Jason! It looks like you took a long time to prepare it. Congrats!
    Just a few details: cor-de-rosa and alaranjado sonuds like a little bit old fashioned nowadays, most part of people just say "rosa" and "laranja".
    When I was a child people used to call the orange color: "cor de abóbora" (pumpkin color). Nobody use it anymore.

    Excellent, Prof. Jason, as always. This lesson included the one aspect of Portuguese that has perplexed me the most: how to pronounce the word "que." In Spanish it is always pronounced "kay." In Portuguese, it can be pronounced either "kee" or "kay." My rule of thumb is to pronounce it "kay" when it means "what" and "kee" when it means "that." I would therefore pronounce the "que" in "de que cor" as "kay" since it means "of what color." You pronounce it "kee." Are they both correct?

  • @Professorjason
    @Professorjason  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Marcio, Good to hear from you again. Yeah, I wondered about rosa vs. cor-de-rosa e laranja, which is why I ended up including several variations... I can imagine just how many crazy colors and names exist now there, so I had to limit it to just the 13 in the video :)

    Professor Jason. Thank you very much for your classes, they are very helpful.
    I would like to know about the indefinite article before proper names. ie. o João, a Ana,
    I didn't see any explanation about it in previews lessons. I really enjoy your videos.
    Thanks again

    Oi Profesor Jason! I just would like to ask something. If I want to ask like "What color is your car?" should I say "De que cor e o seu carro?" and should I reply with "Meu carro e azul"?. And is it clear in my reponse that I am pertaining to masculine if I used "Meu" and feminine if "Minha"?
    Muito Obrigado.

    • @celinhabr1
      @celinhabr1 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are still interested in knowing that: "De que cor é o seu carro?" is correct, but you can also ask "Qual é a cor do seu carro?" it's the exact same question. And yes, "Meu carro é azul" would be correct. In this case both man and woman would use "Meu" because it's refering to the car ( which is a masculine word in brazil). Meu or Minha refers not to the person speaking but what she is speaking about. Another example, if you want to say "A casa é minha" ( It's my house), you'll say minha regardless if it's a men or women speaking, because you are refering to "casa (house)" which is a feminine noun.

    Maybe because of fashion, women also "invent" a lot of names for colors, like "dark vibrant pink" in the past was called "rosa-choque" and now is called "pink", yeah.. like in English!
    You can search on Google Images: "camiseta pink" and "camiseta rosa-choque". :)
    People are just crazy about colors here in Brazil hehehe.

    People generally don't say "cor de rosa" (and I never heard someone say rosada, unless they mean something that became rose-ish, and even that is rare). People usually just say "rosa" - and while it means the same as rose, it is generally understood by context.
    The only exception I recall is the translation for "The Pink Panther" (A Pantera Cor-de-Rosa).

    good question, John. Hopefully a native speaker will chime in. I'm just not being as careful or deliberate when I pronounce "que." I don't think it makes any difference in casual speech.
