    Back in the day to record that would you hook this EPS 16 to a lets say Mackie Mixer then the output record to a DAT machine? Then you could submit your demo that way?

    Good Works ! I'm a soul fan, what vynil did you use (55 seconds) to produce this great beat ?

  • @antthorny6519
    @antthorny6519 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    idk if you know this but instead of pitching all the samples individually across the keyboard you can actually go into edit layer and scroll till you see “pitch tbl: standard” and turn pitch off so they are all the same pitch across the keyboard.

    • @joefarrin
      @joefarrin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m so glad you said this. Does this also mean it chops the sample out through tall the keys just like the ASR or is that only a ASR feature cus this is my deciding factor if i gotta spend the 400 or the 900$

    • @antthorny6519
      @antthorny6519 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joefarrin if i understand your question, yes in theory each key can hold a chop, or multiple pitched keygroups of one chop, on any of its 61 keys. The main differences between asr 10 and 16 plus, having used both extensively, is the asr's ability to monitor and record source input constantly, with the eps 16 only being able to sample, but tbh a mixing board is a quick and cheap workaround. The other difference is the actual sound quality, with the 16 plus you can actually adjust its anti-aliasing filter before sampling which when turned off and paired with a lower sample rate can produce a very crunchy and "lo-fi" sample similar to an emu sp 12. The asr on the other hand has an anti aliasing filter that you cannot adjust which will always have a slightly filtered sound even when paired with the lowest sample rate but trust me when I say when I first played a sample on the asr it sounded untouchably dreamy. The other thing I have noticed now that I mention it is the 16 plus has faster loading times and i know that's a small difference but it is one that made me appreciate and love my 16 even more. All in all not much of a difference and not much room for regret, I personally traded my mpc 2000xl w8outs, that I got for 350, for my 16 plus and immediately regretted it. I now have another 2000xl without the 8out that I got for 300 and I love the 16 plus more than the xl. My friend whom I borrowed the asr from got his with the output expansion and a shit ton of floppies for 550. So id say if you cant find the asr for less than 650, which I believe you still can ;) wait and find an eps 16 plus less than 350.

    • @joefarrin
      @joefarrin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bro you the shit. You can’t find extensive reviews like this on old gear specially such short period of time. Is your boy still selling that? If so please let him know I will buy it. Like ASAP. Or provide his email. I’m tryna trade my xL for a asr-10 since last night but the guy is only budging for a 60ii or a 3000 respectfully. But yea all else fails I’ll grab the eps I saw for 400 I just wanted to wait cause I keep hearing the A is loaded Roth more sample chopping options and that was a huge deal for me, only cause I like to break down the sample literally piece by piece and rearrange shit basically to the point o turn my samples into my own instruments instead of just pitched up or down loops connected together. No way I like chopping milliseconds up with other milliseconds making them mend literally inventing my own sample loop out if the waves I’m rearranging like I’m coding 1’s and 0’s And pulling out something brand new outta the matrix.. your review makes me think only diff may now be sample time but I will do a Lil more digging just to confirm cause I also do like the on board ASR sounds aswell

    • @antthorny6519
      @antthorny6519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Farrin my friends not selling his asr sorry i was just saying its possible to still get them for cheaper than 800 but hey man I mean the eps 16 plus has 30 seconds at a second to highest sample rate and has abt 82 seconds on the sample rate I use which is second to lowest and it sounds amazing and crunchy. There is no difference chopping wise on the eps 16 plus it is the exact same thing as asr just with a little less sampling time which I honestly dont think youre gonna use to max. The whole point of chopping is to create something new not just use full minute loops if you really wanna do that you can just use a laptop. But dude if you can trade a 2kxl for a 3000 do it thats like a no brainer opportunity

    • @antthorny6519
      @antthorny6519 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Farrin and as for the “editing 1s and 0s” aspect, thats how it is for both the asr and eps 16 plus they both have the same workflow, having to scroll around screens and lower and higher numbers. There is no wave that you can look and edit by sight like on the 2000xl and it will be a steep learning curve but once you learn and process what youre doing it becomes natural. When I first played on the asr 10 after coming from 2000xl I didnt know what the hell I was doing and my buddy didnt either initially but after watching extensive youtube videos especially by “The Daydream Sound” you figure it out and process what youre doing and it has really influenced how I even approach the 2000xl.

    The EPS 16+ rocks. The EPS classic has the best sound of any ENSONIQ sampler tho.

    man. I rock a Triton and sadly theres an annoying lack of video material on them as a primary sampler since most people use them as sound modules and do the real sampling/sequencing on an mpc. ensoniq tutorials have been helping figure out a workflow in conjunction to what i can figure out from the manual.
    its really a shame that no one really puts the triton to use, theyre are insanely great samplers once you break out of an mpc mindset, theyve even got a step sequencer among other features.

    hey! I have an ensoniq eps 16 plus but recently I've had so troubles with the display screen. do you have any advice? this thing means everything to me and I cant find anyone in my town that knows how to work on them.

    • @AlexisG73
      @AlexisG73 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry to hear that. I have similar issues with one of my ASR10s. It’s a good idea to check your power supply voltages. Also I took my ASR10 apart trying to solve my display issues. Didn’t really work but you might want to unplug all the connectors and replug them as sometimes they can cause issues from age.

      You mean by pre picking the records to sample from? I tend to do this to make shooting the video easier. I started recording samples I like on to tape and just use the tape to sample from with my last video. Now I don’t even use my turntable on video haha. I don’t make any money from this content and hope you find other to watch that will be more “honest” what ever that means. Thanks for watching!
