I just bought one stock EPS 16+ in Russia in great condition for about 150$ and want to say thank you for your advice. You made my choice. I've been waiting for this deal nearly a half of a year and it happen ))) This forgotten piece of gear is a real beast! God bless you, Daydream!
This dope. I know this vid is from 4 years ago, but somehow whenever I've chosen to pick up certain older equipment to mess around with you and look up tips or info vids , you always seem to have the info on that hardware. Stuff I thought no one would being that it's hella old school equipment. First the MP 2000 ( not xl) and then this eps 16 + thanks man
Great video... I must admit I was about to turn it off until you started showing the synthesis. It did not sound bad in the end. Lots of steps to get there would rather buy a moog or an analog with lits of knobs. Nice work you rock.
Man I love your videos so much. I can see how much effort goes into every one and they're a pleasure to watch. After your review and other videos I really want to get an EPS 16+ but the ASR-10 always looks attractive too, it's just that I don't know if mono vs stereo is worth the price difference. I'm really into hip hop production (And watching Jake Ones behind the beat videos really show off the ASR and I would assume the EPS-16+'s abilities) but could see this sampler as being really fun for other genres like UK Jungle. What's your opinion? Thanks again for these awesome videos btw :)
Much appreciated man! The EPS16+ would be a good choice for all types of music. If you can deal with floppy disks and limited memory, this sampler would be a great choice.
I have both machines, as well. Either machine, I'd recommend upgrading the memory to the max & SCSI output for faster & better storage. 1.44mb of storage becomes a pain when you really start pushing the machine to its limits. That said, I run into problems with memory when building up sample Layers in my maxed out EPS16+. Not all the time but, enough to cause frustration when you are working on something critical. I've not had this issue with the ASR...ever. As far as which machine is right for you? Do you need to sample in stereo? Do you plan to use the 8 possible outputs for tracking? Do you wanted the extra added effects patches? Are you wanting to build sizable samples or just quick loops? For anyone looking at both machines as an option, these are really the deciding points. I was just working with my EPS16, last night. I think it's an amazing workstation. It's simple, refined, sounds great & can be a great tool for making music. The ASR just gives you a lot ore breathing room & a few nice perks. It's almost like living in a small 2br house w/ a tiny garage & no air conditioning VS a 2000 sq ft home w/ all of the amenities, a sizable 2 car garage w/ a workshop. Both get the job done. Which are you willing to front the cash for?

I bought one of these back when they first came out. A representative from Ensoniq happened to be at a music store when I visited it when I started shopping for a keyboard and he was demonstrating the EPS as it was just coming out. It was cutting edge back then and a slue of artist used the sounds from this keyboard in their songs. Every time I still hear certain songs, I'm reminded that they were made at least partially with the EPS. I still have mine as well as all the libraries and signature series libraries. But the keyboard stopped working about a decade ago. I have done some research as to why it just wouldn't accept the OS disk and boot up. There have been a few ideas for causes and remedies for those causes, but I just never got to the point of getting it fixed. I'd still love to use it again. I love the sounds and it has sounds that I don't have in my Korg Kronos, which is my newest replacement for it. The Kronos is an amazing beast too. But I want to know after all this time if there is something I can still do to bring my EPS back to life again. It's a shame that I have it in it's original box in storage and not being used. Too bad Ensoniq seemed to give up after a short time. The EPS was ahead of it's time.
It never really had a chance to mature. It was used in many top songs and artists back then, but for whatever the reason, and I don't remember why, but the company folded and got sold in pieces. Emu was left and a few others as remnants of it, but it's just a shame.
Hey, Was wondering if you can do a tutorial on sampling bass... I'm a Bass Player for 20+ years.. So I want sample some bass lines.. Only when I do whether its bass on a keyboard or its mine.. I get the "Infamous" Static aftertouch. Now, I know it's possible to sample bass clearly... I mean I tried everything from EQing, Recording the bass first.. Now I I sampled a baseline from a loop package i bought a while back... I never use it,but I wanted to do an Experiment. Now the loop is a real bass being played by a bass player... When I sample it.. It's clear as day... Now that bugs the S!@# out of me.. Because I've spent a while on this... I can send you My first effort on sampling my bass.. It's one bass but it takes up two disk's. I can send you the GKZs if you'd like. Its an Ibanez going through an Ampeg SVT 3pro. Now It sounds really good on the disk, Partly because I turned the bass kind of down... It has a little Static though, But I put in some fret noise too on a separate sample so that yo can add fret buzz while it changes notes down the neck. I didn't know I was sampling at 44khz either.... So In the future I'll make sure to sample a little lower to save disk's lol... I mean even if I sample music... The bass comes out clear on that.. Now I don't know if these are trade secrets, but, you can email me privately if that would help you better explain this... Plus, It would be a good video.. I have the EPS Classic and the 16+ Rackmount. Thanks man..

What's up Vue U! Thanks for sharing! I've always thought the EPS line was underrated.
It never really had a chance to mature. It was used in many top songs and artists back then, but for whatever the reason, and I don't remember why, but the company folded and got sold in pieces. Emu was left and a few others as remnants of it, but it's just a shame.
hello please i bought a bespoke eps 16 plus it shows nothing but numbers. no sound or nothing. please do you need a program or what?
good stuff buddy ….
Thanks!
Daydream, how exactly do we decide how many voices or polyphony we want to reach a certain khz?
There's basically 3 settings (I'm speaking from memory so I could be wrong) 8 voices to 32.
Funny to hear your pronunciation, we thought it was “ enson- eeek” like it was French or something, maybe because the Spanish bulls haha.
I think it's time I upgraded from the Mirage to an EPS 16+.
What's up Saibot216! If there's any upgrade that's the upgrade to make. The EPS16+ will read Mirage disks as well.
That's good to know! Will I need any format disk for the EPS16+? I've been looking on Syntaur and don't see one.
Luckily you won't need a format disk. Just the O.S disk. You'll be able to format and do other system functions with it.
Oh nice! Then I will be all set when it arrives.
The RZA brought me here.
What's up man! That's a first! Thanks for watching!
Tru master brought me here 😂😂
uh oh.
Fala português caramba
Great video, as always
Thanks!
