I'm old. It didn't used to be this way. Remember, Nixon had to resign because he was informed that the GOP led Senate would convict him on the impeachment that was about to be passed by the House. Reagan cut taxes, then realized he cut too much and raised taxes three times before leaving office... and that's just GOP.
Corruption has always been there, but three things happened that put us where we are now.
      1. News outlets shifted from nightly 1 hour news programs that were relatively small businesses and almost entirely local news driven into billionaire owned 24 hour cable outlets that have a larger interest in promoting corporate America than reporting news.
      2. Four court cases, ending with Citizens United, made corporate donations the overwhelming motivating factor for politicians
      3. Social media started selling advertising space, making it the most profitable place for organizations to spread information and disinformation, so it evolved from a place to connect with friends and family to a place where most people get their "news" - which is at least as much dis- and mis-information as it is legitimate information.
But once upon a time, both parties were focused on what voters wanted, not what corporations wanted. It was far from perfect, but it was a helluva lot better than what we have now, which is straight up oligarchy pretending that it is still a democracy.

Mitt Romney is not playing jockey on both sides as you mentioned. He gave credit to Trump that he campaigned on what he said he will do and won fair and square. He said he agrees with Trump in most policies and disagree on some...a thing that he has done with all policies. When he looks at a policy he envisions the impact on ordinary people like you and me. That doesn't make him a hypocrite. If you want to make America great again you must be open to criticism. Not everything we lay done is correct, if someone sees a danger impact of the policy to ordinary citizens, he/she should be able to voice it out, not to be like a puppet. We need real man not sissies in our Senate and Congress.

We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years in another country. We are absolutely worried that SSI will no longer be funded. we'll have to rely on his pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific lnvestment account with my Tracy Britt Cool Consulting my FA. Harris spent an astronomical unheard of $1.6 Billion/As opposed to Trumps $500 Million on campaigning only to win 19/50 States... Harris also lost all 7 crucial swing States and the popular vote.
If you take away one State (Ultra Liberal) California vote tally Trump won by 6 million votes
How bad was Harris loss - Here's one of 50 examples ... She was the first Democrat to lose "Dade County" Florida since the 1950's
Trump wiped her to an absolute, irrefutable, undisputed mathematical certanty.

Mitt Romney is a more respectable person who has always been very outspoken about Trump, but now it appears thar Romney is also starting to change his mind about Trump. Mitt Romney, you make me very dissappointed. Fortunately there are still a few traditional conservatives who dare to stand up against Trump, people like Dick and Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. I still remember how Romney said during the debate with Obama that Russia was the existential threat and that dolt Obama started laughing. It turned out that it was Obama was was Comrade Putin's "useful idiot" all along.
