OMG, trying to retrieve a bit of foam in the vent and this thing explodes in my lap. Thought I lost a spring but it was still, magically, wedged in there. This video was a life saver - because if I hadn't gotten this back together my wife would have actually killed me.

I know it's a bit late but thanks for the video. This exact problem happened to me after installing a new head unit and my immediate thought was 'get a new vent.' Zero cost fix and took 10 mins. :)

Well let me tell you, when I took that vent out to work on the radio, all of a sudden I had like 50 pieces.. I didnt know what to do, so glad you had this video posted on here, that helped me out a lot. And the zip tie idea was awesome!! Thank you

I was panicking when I took my vent out and it just fell into pieces! But thanks to your brilliant video I had no problems in quickly putting it back together. The zip tie idea was just the 'icing on the cake' - great job, thank you

Instead of zip tie, i used twisty ties. Worked great. Thank for your video!

Thank you so much for this from the UK!
Major swearing when my vent exploded everywhere, much swearing at Swedish designers for the ridiculous design was averted by your video, once I found both spring pins under the seat with a magnet! I used some blu- tack / wall board gum to hold all the bits together instead of plastic ties, works ok & easy to remove.
    Many thanks again

I damaged the vent when trying to take it out. Without your video, no chance that I would have fixed it. Many thanks and all the best from the Netherlands.

Just bought a Saab 9-3 2006 and my vent has this problem. Once it comes back from the mechanic this will be my first job on the car. Thanks for instructional video

Thanks Gary. This saved me some real head scratching, and especially liked the zip tie trick for reassembly. Appreciate the content sir!

Saved me so much time not trying to figure out this puzzle, thank you so much! Was able to replace my beat up original vent with a new one, and works perfectly now!

Excellent rebuild with zip-ties. One addendum - when reverse building, placing the vertical posts over the springs, please note one end of the post has a thicker and shorter rectangle while the opposite end is a thinner/longer rectangle. These correspond to a poke-yoke by the engineer (meaning there is only 1 correct way to fit/reassemble this). One end will properly fit to the upper and one in the bottom slot. Nice, easy to rebuild/assemble!

And if you don't want it exploding again, dab a bit of superglue to hold it together

Just sat in the car right now looking at this so good timing with the guide. Unfortunately, one of the x shaped pieces is missing and so are both springs. Looks like someone had a go, gave up and lost a few bits...

What about the drivers vent? I’ve rebuilt the center before but I just bought my car with it broken on drivers and I found the spring but it doesn’t have an obvious slot.

I tried repairing it and as I put it back in place a part feel into the vent. I can hear some blockage when the sir conditioning is on but have not been able to take it out. Any help here guys?

Mine just exploded on me tonight and two of the mechanical parts fell between the seat and the transmission tunnel. Off course they fell right into the small space where there is a gap between the rail and the carpet. This means I'll probably have to take out the seat to retrieve them 🤥
