My grandmother was a Brit through and through. She moved to the US just as WWII was starting and lived until 1976, never giving up her British citizenship. I spent a lot of time with her as a boy and picked up some of the nuances of the accent, softening the R's, saying "been" with a long E, etc. (It was still difficult, since I was raised in Mississippi, and now live in Tennessee). My daughter can speak with an Irish accent (she's been there), but that accent has eluded me. However, I can say "I can't speak Japanese" in perfect Japanese.
I love Texas! I get there about once a year, landing in Dallas and driving to Lubbock to go hunting and fishing. Great state!

The best version of this book that I've heard. Thank you for this work.

You’re quite welcome! It’s always my pleasure to read “The Horse and His Boy” - it’s my favorite (along with “The Silver Chair”) in the whole series.
      Regards,
      Brian

Thanks! Now that I'm closer to 70 (years old) than 60, my voice is starting to get pretty ragged, but I'll keep reading to my daughter until I run out of breath! She's now 18 and starting college, but still likes a bedtime story. The Narnia series is a good one to read for bedtime, and "The Horse and His Boy" is my favorite of the 7 books. Nice pacing, lots of vocal horseplay (pardon the pun), and some laughs along the way. C.S. Lewis was a genius.

My favorite Narnia story after TLTWATW.
I have been waiting for this!

I love "The Horse and His Boy", too - it's my favorite (or a tie with "The Silver Chair"). I'm glad you enjoyed it and hope you'll read the others.

Yes---a super reading. The delivery is a tad slow so I've upped it to 1.5.

Probably not a bad idea to speed it up. I hadn't thought of that. I was trying to watch my diction, which made it a bit slower than my normal speaking voice. But I didn't want to mangle any of the words of C.S. Lewis... for shame!

@@brianfox4987 Brian! How lovely to get a personal reply. I'm listening to this in England (Stamford, Lincolnshire) but I assume you might be from "across the pond"! Where are you? (Must say you're doing a great job with characterization. Never thought about it before but... Bree in particular is wonderfully real.) Congrats! Rob Shaw.

Hello, Rob - I’m glad you’re enjoying the book(s)! Yes, I live “across the pond” (I’ll tell you where in a minute), but have a history and great love for the U.K., where I have visited 6 times. My grandmother was British born-and-bred, growing up in a town called Hayward’s Heath, due south of London. She moved to the U.S. on December 8th, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor, and died in 1976. She never gave up her British citizenship. I spent a LOT of time with her as a boy and teenager, and picked up a few nuances of her accent. Years later, as an amateur actor, it came in handy. I currently live in Tennessee, and if that’s not bad enough for one’s speech, I grew up in Mississippi, the spawning ground of the country’s most wretched and off-putting accents. I love the state, just hate the accent. When I hear my older brother speak, my ears bleed. It makes me happy that my narration was good enough for a true Brit!
      Thanks again - Brian

@@brianfox4987 Thanks for the e-mail. Your grandmother sounds a most interesting lady! As a boy growing up in post war Britain I grew to love aspects of American culture, particularly films & music. Rock n Roll was my downfall & though I'm an old man now (73 last time I looked) I still play drums in a local group. I'm old enough to be the lead guitarist's grandpa! However...I work as a Tour Guide at a very grand Stately House in Stamford called "Burghley House". (It's worth googling if I may say so!) For anyone who has heart of a child it's fantastic: very atmospheric...full of secrets...& significant historically. My point is this: it's just 90 miles north of London. If you ever visit Hayward's Heath again, do consider a journey up the "Great North Road" (not to Narnia I'm afraid) but to Ye Ancient Borough of Stamford. It's a little English gem, highly picturesque & increasingly used by film companies. (Both Judy Dench's Pride & Prejudice & Netflix's The Crown used it extensively.) I'd love to take you & the family around. And if you come in the Summer there is a first class open-air Shakespeare Company. (Sam Wanamaker was a founding Patron. So...can't be bad.) Enough of the sales pitch!! If you ever fancy a visit, If you pinged an e-mail to the House, I'm sure the Office could put us in touch. Give my my regards to any any of the descendants of your one-time Congressman Davy Crockett. (A great boyhood hero!) Warmly, Rob Shaw.
