I am in complete agreement with Louise Roche statement. Lucas was the protagonist, and Peyton the lead female role. And while seasons 7 and 8 did manage to grab attention, Lucas and Peyton were the core, and without it, the story became less and less stable. After all, the title of each episode was a song title. And music was Peyton's core in the show. Haley was a part of it, but Peyton expressed all the power that the art of music could offer. As for Lucas, like I said before, he was the protagonist. His decision to leave the River Court sparked everything. Without those two characters, the show weakened and eventually failed in the final season to inspire us as they did in season 6.

I agree, the show went down big time, I cringe watching the last 2 seasons

Haha and the people who said "where is chad now" probably putting their foots in their mouths now that he's starring in 3 shows. The fact is Chad''s career took off after he left the show. Meanwhile I haven't seen any of the other actors who stayed on the show since the show ended.

+Ya Lata Also, not everyone wants to act forever. God forbid they had their time and want to focus on other things in life other than acting.

To be honest I think Sophia Bush is the most recognizable right now because of Chicago PD. Also Quinn because she was in the Flash

I actually kept watching oth out of respect for the show but not by choice Peyton and lucas r the only reason this show was so popular I love them so much and when they left I thought they betrayed us fans but I guess now I kno the truth it's a pity but that's also life what a discrace

With all my respect but I don't think it's true what you're saying. Lucas and Peyton were of course a big part of it, but the reason I loved the show was because of Hayley and Nathan and I bet that there are a lot of people thinking the same way about this..when you look up polls on the web, naley always wins.. so I don't think Peyton and Lucas were the only reason, like you'e saying..

+Elisabeth Bergé That's just based on their relationship. HOWEVER Lucas Scott's character had better chemistry with nearly EVERY character while Nathan didn't. I can truly say I fell inlove with the show due to the chemistry Lucas Scott had with Dan, his mother, his whole gang, keith. Even with Dan every single scene he had with Lucas was more entertaining and intense than any that were shared with Nathan. I liked Nathan but I feel like when he wasn't with Haley he was pretty boring. Lucas was an interesting character even when he was single in the show. I feel like Nathan's character solely depended on being a couple through the entire show. I even felt his chemistry with Lucas felt fake as hell. For example where was he when Lucas had a heart attack? he didn't check on him once and in the 3rd season he started acting towards Lucas just as he did in Season 1 just because of some small lie. I feel like the Nathan/Lucas relationship was being thrown in our faces often because Lafferty wasn't really a strong enough actor to convince us.

Well in my opinion i think lucas and peyton characters left the show perfectly! It was great timing cause they got married, had sawyer! there story is fully done.was no need for them to be in another season and drag it out!! they lived happily ever after and thats all anyone ever wanted for them.. although i will say the next few seasons after they were gone were a complete disaster!! they should of simply finished the whole show at season 6, when the two main actors were leaving.. it just wasnt the same when peyton and lucas weren't in it....

I see where you are coming form but I disagree, the show storyline is 2 half brothers finding their way in life and without them both its not true to the original oth story line (even though I did call continue watching and loved the show even without them, I still always missed them)

He must have asked for a lot of money! It was never the same without him and Peyton

Even Nathan became a supporting cast member we saw less and less of him. It was chase And Julian who took over In the final seasons Lucas and Nathan were the core of the show. it should’ve ended with the Scott boys
