One interesting thing I did with my charismatic manipulative villain is that his plot to assassinate his older brother and seize the throne fails. Someone gets wind of the plot, manages to get the brother away and put in a body double and it’s the double that gets killed by the assassin. This failure not only kicks off most of the plot, being the civil war between the two brothers, but shows my villain that despite his ability to charm manipulate people to do his bidding, you can’t control everything.
Would you do a video about how to outline a novel from scratch? Like the first stages of how to start and organize yourself a bit? I think that would be great.
There are a plethora of unsympathetic characters in Game of Thrones! I will say, I most appreciated the death of Littlefinger because Sansa and Arya outmanipulated the master manipulator.
In a story I am currently writing the main antagonist is manipulative but well liked(or at least respected) by most people. He is extremely competent and makes a fearsome enemy, while just skirting the edge of being a villain.
my current wip has two manipulators... or maybe four... three.... hm... The main one is the young king, his manipulations are so extensive one could wonder if he even remembers all his strings and puppets... but his strength seems to be in adapting to anything that goes wrong, and for keeping back-up plans at the ready... he can't control everything though.. A blatant manipulator is a street girl who likes power, happily paired up with a cruel leader of a bunch of street kids and just soothed the guy's temper while controlling the group herself... but it gets more and more obvious after the leader leaves, and she just... hops to the next most powerful character. suddenly it's kinda sickening as they realise what was going on... it was obvious, perhaps, they just didn't recognise it until then.... and the mystery manipulator is a nobelwoman who seems stable and content in her actions, she knows she's in charge of her own plans, and she's ... not a good person. she probably knows that, and just doesn't care. I... misplaced her in a recent chapter so i watched this video hoping i could figure out where she's going. and... i think i had a lightbulb moment literally as i'm typing. She wants a specific sort of power. ok thnkx bye gotta write this down now lol
as always, thank you for your videos. I do want to make manipulative characters in the future, but to me that's like advanced character creation haha that's part of the reason I asked you back then about a femme fatale recommendation, so after reading and watching your recommendations I think I'll rewatch this video. There is an anime titled Monster, whose story was written by an author of the name Naoki Urasawa. I haven't watched it but some people say that the villain never does anything directly, he manipulates others in incredible ways to do questionable things so maybe that's another example.
I have a character I'm making that is a mix of Gaston and joffery when he is scamming and plotting to get my main character to marry them by getting the kicked out of a training school for the elite warrior of the land any advice on how to do that
For my own story, there would be two main manipulators: Charles-Henri Sanson and Anne-Marthe Dubut. Now, in the early story, Henri must hide his identity in a boarding school, starting age ten. He concocted a web of lies, part of which are quite humiliating. Like, having to say his father is a Janséniste, to explain away not knowing certain social skills of the nobility. In a Jesuit school. He gets bullied for being clumsy and isolated. He befriends the school corrector, and despite their differences, they come to like the school corrector. Charles lies to him about his identity, and to pull that off, he kinda exploits how isolated the corrector is. Oh, and they share a room. And Charles-Henri has nightmares, because he's a kid who shares a room with a man who's payed to whip him and his classmates, and these big corrections, like 40 hits. But Charles-Henri is still too brainwashed to understand his nightmares, and doesn't see why his classmates could possibly resent him for befriending someone tasked with hurting him. And Anne-Marthe, well she"s the main reason her grandson Henri is so brainwashed.
doesn't akemi's father survive? i think they talk about how he's recovering at the end of the season. akemi mentions that he's in her care and doesn't reveal that he was a traitor.
Right, she locked him in the basement and then maybe went back for him? That part isn't shown, but you're right Akemi does say he's in her care. ("Care" heh!) He could be dead or alive, until we see him on screen (habeas corpus!)

I would love it if you did more character types. This was really well done*. Some of the best I've seen on TH-cam!
Thanks :)
Not what I was expecting and very informative. Thanks, as always!
You’re very welcome 😊

I'll add it to the list :) It does seem a reasonably popular request!
Ngl, I honestly thought that in the unsympathetic villian camp she was going to use Little Finger as an example
Nah, Little Finger was a &%#! bastard, but he had some humanizing moments. Joffrey... I'm not even sure how his mother could love him.
@@JustInTimeWorlds my theory is that Cersei was already planning on replacing Jamie with Joffrey for when the first one died
Youch! Inc3st, a game the whole family can play.

I think for a character to be a manipulator they had to be likeable and Charming if not then it's bullying or something else
OMG! I love the analysis and energy! Thank you so much! Subscribe :3
Thanks and welcome to my corner of TH-cam :)
Hypnosis and pheromones we go well with this

Interesting :D I see it's on Netflix, so I'll check it out.
This is really helping with many of my villains. I really want to make my main villain a totally and utterly hated character
I have a character I'm making that is a mix of Gaston and joffery when he is scamming and plotting to get my main character to marry them by getting the kicked out of a training school for the elite warrior of the land any advice on how to do that

¿Qué tal un personaje que represente a la madre Tierra? Cómo Madre Ogra de The Dark Crystal.

¿Qué tal un maestro manipulador que guía al protagonista por el camino que el manipulador creé más conveniente, pero siendo sutil?
Both of those are good options :)
