At 11:32 Martha hits Angie with the car 🚗 Which is recreated with the shopping cart scene. The glass breaking in the bathroom is the last sound Martha heard while hitting her head hard against the window breaking the glass.
Wow! Brilliant short story! Love how she packs the new “blue” headphones before she leaves. So many beautiful details. Had to watch it twice in a row!! Excellent storytelling.
So apparently, Martha actually left the house on that day. On her way while driving, she was checking her phone. While she looked up, she suddenly saw Angie appear out of nowhere and while trying to avoid hitting her, she drove into the tree. The car Martha first saw when she went out after waking up was infact the car she had an accident in. The reason Angie is the only person with Martha is because Angie was the last person Martha saw before being in a coma. At the end, both of them decided to go on a journey. One they would never return. Martha took her last breath and died.
Audio technique most people didn't notice: The rhythmic clacking of the bicycle tire was incorporated into the background music. Quite clever and creative.
This was really well done. The real story was being told thru tiny details and symbolism so that the audience had a chance to guess it before they reveal that she's in a coma. The red balloon, the wrecked car, broken cell phone, the cut that just appeared and then Angie showing up, etc. It was very beautiful and very sad. The cast and crew did an excellent job telling this story. I look forward to seeing more of their talent. I had some thoughts so, here's what I think regarding some questions in the comments. First the electricity in her mind is still on because that is the life support machine in the real world, it's also why her alarm keeps going off, the beeps were actually from the machine. Second, about the toothbrush that Angie uses that was supposed to belong to Martha's mother; the Angie in her mind only looked like the woman from reality, and she may have been a part of Martha's construct, the part of her that knew what had happened. Either that or she was a guide that took on the appearance of the young lady she almost hit and was there to help her let go. In both scenarios, the toothbrush isn't real, therefore it didn't belong to anyone. It was symbolic of her not being able to let her mother go, and Angie knew it. Which is why Angie used it. It was to force her to accept that her Mother couldn't join her. It seemed that Martha didn't know her in the construct so we have to assume that she did not know her in reality. In that case, she didn't know her name. If Angie was part of Martha's mind, she gave her that name. In the case that Angie may have been a guide or guardian angel, Angie would a derivative of the word Angel. Lastly, when she was leaving 'home' she wasn't just going to another part of the construct, she was leaving the construct to go to the afterlife.
The fact that in this comatosed dream her world is so intricately created to the point where she can even manage to get hold of her own thoughts and actions in such serenity.. it makes me wonder how realistic are these sort of dreams from the ones we have that are blurry, haphazard and chaotic when we sleep? Very interesting plot.
I often find my dreams are amazingly detailed and intricate. Frequently it'll be my hometown or the big city in which I live. But often looking for something I can't find... and a deadline to meet. So cool, but no time to explore.
I once read about a person who went into a two weeks(I think) coma. He said he met the love of his life in the dream, they got married, he had a job and everything as well. Then one day he saw this weird lamp in his house..he was so enchanted by it, he kept on looking at it because it was so strange. He didn't eat, he didn't sleep, just kept on looking at it for days. Then one day, he woke up. The poor guy was really depressed though, he lived through an entire life in his dream and to suddenly find out it wasn't real must be devastating.
@@AquaSventi That's so strange. And, the idea of having a life with your true love was all a dream would be heartbreaking. It makes you wonder if our waking lives are all just a dream
I was in a coma, and obviously I can only speak for myself, it was certainly really crazy. It feels real and I can still remember what they were about. Not all the details but certainly how I felt and what was going on. But while you're dreaming you only have your own mind as a point of reference for what is real. So it probably wouldn't be detailed to an outside viewer because your mind doesn't have to process anything it doesn't need to in order for you to understand what you're experiencing if that makes sense. There's already a lot of science explaining dreams but since everyone is different there's not gonna be any concrete answers, but typically there's certain things that happen that you wouldn't notice while dreaming like, not being able to look at a clock, getting somewhere without actually traveling there, etc. You don't usually notice these while dreaming and when you do it usually wakes you up. It's one of the problems with lucid dreaming, there's a dissonance between the dream world and the real world that once you notice it your body will usually wake you up.
Angie as angel, i dont think angie was hit by the car, we dont see her im the hospital. I think martha avoided the girl by hitting the tree and getting into a coma, and then an angel took form of the last person she saw so she could help her do the passing in peace. And now she is off to an endless adventure she will never came back from. Truly beautiful and sad
@@LeslieNDean i thought that at first, but angie was to calm about their situation and so sure about what was happening so the name made me connect the dots
I agree. Remember towards the beginning when we see the car crashed into the tree? That's definitely her car, and is also the aftermath of her avoiding Angie but still crashing into that tree.
In the film, Angie only exists in Martha's mind; she's never a literal character. Martha doesn't know if the girl in her path was hit or missed by her car, whether she is alive or dead. This question is not answerable and not really relevant to the artistry of the writing.
I don’t think that was the creators intended vision, but you’re free to form your own theory of course. Personally I agree with what others have already said, that everything happening is just in her mind while she’s in the coma, and the reason Angie is there is because she is the last person Martha saw before the crash and therefore fresh in her memory.

A beautiful story! Struggling to hang on to her life but eventually letting it go. And reconciling with her victim (as far as her subconscious was concerned) was a beautiful added touch.
Martha's consciousness (soul if you're a believer) lives beyond her physical self. It was her consciousness being portrayed in the film as if she had entered another world (multiverse?). When her consciousness decided to move on, her physical self passed on. Such a deep and moving short film. It's utterly beautiful.

I liked the foreshadowing hints, like the red balloon reappearing out of focus, the cracked screen of the cellphone, the crashed car and the reappearing injuries on her face.
The takeaway for me is how we take humans (and realtionships) around us for granted, especially our parents. Only realisation occurs when we lose them or watch this short film. Thanks for this.
Gawd this was sad. So she killed this girl and herself. The girl she killed rescued her from purgatory. Edit: alternately this was her mind's dying dream created from guilt and regret, and so the girl she thought she may have killed right before she wrecked was conjured into her dreamworld/nightmare. But on some level she made peace with herself and came to terms with her own death. Damn that's pretty sad. Reminds me of Jacob's Ladder.
I realized the true when it showed mom at the hospital, then it all made sense. The debate is weather or not she hit the girl before she crashed. That is left up to the viewer to decide.

The films Omleto brings us everyday is more worth than watching full hours movie of the Hollywood . I can’t help but appreciate their hard work and the storyline of these movies are just so perfect and blending with the reality that sometimes you keep on wondering if this is the truth or is it going to be the truth. Coming to this story I had always wondered of how it would be if everyone on the Earth had vanished but their definitely would be a lot more consequences than even thought about. Nuclear power plants could have burst and dams burst open without man power to control however from the perspective of a single woman in one part of the world this was vey interesting. It seems like she was in coma and her subconscious mind was imagining this. Great concept 👍
Yeah as someone who has worked in the electricity industry I could not understand HOW her power was still on - will depend on the system, country - but basically PEOPLE are needed 24/7 - not talking about maintenance, I'm talking about complete cascade failure - of the ENTIRE grid almost *immediately* If people just disappeared, power would literally grind to a halt
@@juliaconnell It was a dream she was having while in a coma. The power doesn't necessarily have to function exactly the way it would in real life when your in a coma. It also represented her life flickering out.
@@tiberiusgracchus4222 thank you for the explanation - yes I UNDERSTOOD *all* that - that was simply me - going ahhhhhh (like WHY was she riding a bike everywhere & not driving a car - WHY did this one woman suddenly appear out of nowhere (the woman she hit, while driving, before crashing into a tree - ) - these 3 things bothered me - WHY was the electricity still going if she was truly alone - I didnt want to give away any spoilers (got TOLD OFF for that - the other day) I assumed that the film maker, like the vast majority of people in assume, think in this scenario - everyone just DISAPPEARS - except her - power might last days, weeks even months - similar movies, short & long, tv shows do all the time -make this assumption - which is simply not true
Oh and dams would NOT burst - not immediately at any rate - most have build in spill ways - some are obvious, others are not - Some forms of generation - like geothermal, coal (urgh) the generation might keep going for a little way - but as i.said last night, at least in my country, the entire national grip would go into cascade failure, requiring black start - a complete & utter blackout almost immediately although the VAST amount of data needed to 'solve' the balance between demand & supply is done with computers - people are still needed in critical positions in real time to keep the electric grid itself running - they're in rooms with high security, boom proof - their building could literally burn to ashes around then and they could still keep working -:plus there are redundancies build into the system - back up sites etc
For me, this is one of the most intrigeeing apocalyptic themes. Important is: only people have dissappeared, or also the animals (which we saw none in this nice movie)... makes a BIG difference in practice.

Beautifully Done!!! When I started watching this, about 10 minutes in I had to pause because something came up. I didn't have a chance to finish watching the rest of it, till a couple of days later. Don't know why but I started watching where I left off and actually forgot that the scene opened up with her mom in the hospital. When it showed them with the shopping cart and her driving. It clicked to me that they are both probably dead. You could feel the mom's heartbreak and sorrow. What do you guys think? For me, I think the film would have made a bigger impact if it didn't open up with mom in the hospital hallway. Only because while watching, you know the whole time she is probably in a coma or dead?

Audio technique most people didn't notice: The rhythmic clacking of the bicycle tire was incorporated into the background music. Quite clever and creative.
Thank you for pointing it out, will rewatch.
It's also a reference to the time passing by for her, don't you think?
@@UNIVERSOENUNACAJA Yes! I think you're right! Like a ticking clock.
Also the alarm clock sounded like hospital machines
Yeah I actually thought it was part of the music at first. Took me a minute to realize it was just a well timed bike tire.
I regret I can only give this one upvote. It's definitely one of the best short films I've ever seen.
I do think that sleep and a coma should be - and feel - much different, but yeah...that would be interesting!

And now she is off to an endless adventure she will never came back from.
Truly beautiful and sad

@@LeslieNDean i thought that at first, but angie was to calm about their situation and so sure about what was happening so the name made me connect the dots
doesnt she apologize to Angie after the grocery cart ride? If so- why?
Apparently Martha's effort to avoid running over Angie failed and Angie died. Angie then came back to help with Martha's passing.
I don’t think that was the creators intended vision, but you’re free to form your own theory of course. Personally I agree with what others have already said, that everything happening is just in her mind while she’s in the coma, and the reason Angie is there is because she is the last person Martha saw before the crash and therefore fresh in her memory.
That would be a mystical interpretation. But I don't see any other mystical hints in the video.
Absolutely outstanding. The acting was exceptional - truly lifted it above the vast majority of shorts. Massive congratulations to all involved for producing something so fantastic.

Martha is an amazing actress her control over her emotions is just 👌
Gawd this was sad.

Yeah as someone who has worked in the electricity industry I could not understand HOW her power was still on -
will depend on the system, country - but basically PEOPLE are needed 24/7 - not talking about maintenance, I'm talking about complete cascade failure - of the ENTIRE grid almost *immediately*
If people just disappeared, power would literally grind to a halt
@@juliaconnell It was a dream she was having while in a coma. The power doesn't necessarily have to function exactly the way it would in real life when your in a coma. It also represented her life flickering out.
@TahaHassanXT The song is Strong enough by Marsheaux, there u go😀
@@tiberiusgracchus4222 thank you for the explanation - yes I UNDERSTOOD *all* that - that was simply me - going ahhhhhh (like WHY was she riding a bike everywhere & not driving a car - WHY did this one woman suddenly appear out of nowhere (the woman she hit, while driving, before crashing into a tree - ) - these 3 things bothered me - WHY was the electricity still going if she was truly alone -
I didnt want to give away any spoilers (got TOLD OFF for that - the other day)
I assumed that the film maker, like the vast majority of people in assume, think in this scenario - everyone just DISAPPEARS - except her - power might last days, weeks even months -
similar movies, short & long, tv shows do all the time -make this assumption - which is simply not true
Oh and dams would NOT burst - not immediately at any rate - most have build in spill ways - some are obvious, others are not -
Some forms of generation - like geothermal, coal (urgh) the generation might keep going for a little way - but as i.said last night, at least in my country, the entire national grip would go into cascade failure, requiring black start - a complete & utter blackout almost immediately
although the VAST amount of data needed to 'solve' the balance between demand & supply is done with computers - people are still needed in critical positions in real time to keep the electric grid itself running
- they're in rooms with high security, boom proof - their building could literally burn to ashes around then and they could still keep working -:plus there are redundancies build into the system - back up sites etc
Great but sad short! It was great to see Leah Harvey in this. She is a great actress and wonderful in the Foundation series.

For me, this is one of the most intrigeeing apocalyptic themes. Important is: only people have dissappeared, or also the animals (which we saw none in this nice movie)... makes a BIG difference in practice.
There were fish
Watch the whole story, it's not the apocalypse. There's a reason why there's no one else.
Birds are chirping so I gues...
There were birds chirping and there was a goldfish in the tank at Martha's.
So the lights flickering is symbolic...
