Hello from Texas! I just got promoted at my DTC coffee company and I'm an Operations Specialist. Essentially, most of my time is spent monitoring backorders and orders with dangerously low SKU. I love this video and plan to center my personal operations around this strategy. Thank you so much for the insight!
The one I always struggle to articulate is the bit on Quality. Providing the best quality of product is such a motherhood statement !! How does one articulate the tactics and measures below it. And then what about Safety ? Why is any ppt on SC usually silent on this aspect ?
For quality, think of things that will impact the quality of the product. It could be temperature control, packaging, reduced handling, QA, Supplier Management........
Thank you for sharing! If I may suggest something, the audio sounds a bit muffled and it may be helpful to address this so you can provide clear, crisp audio!
Hello, I saw your video on youtube and it was very interesting. Of recent, I have developed a great interest in the supply chain, not being a practitioner most of these concepts seem too conceptual for me, and I wish to put them into practice by developing or articulating a supply chain and then learning about supply chain management. However, I do not know from where to start. I would highly appreciate it if you could provide me guidance, links and resources I could better document my self. For the best, I would be amazed if you created a video on youtube discussing how one can conceptualize supply chain in his organization, the different steps and when each step occurs. That would be of great help. Thanks.
I thought this was a great intro into a subject I have glossed over in the past. I felt unclear still as to how you were saying the likes of 'Jim in Packing' would get to see the strategy and be trained to understand the strategy that the company put in place? Sorry for the question - I am 52 and recently disabled, so trying to study as I have lost my mobility and I would do anything to be useful to someone again. I would even do it for free things are so quiet.
Hi Stephen. My point about 'Jim in Packing' is that a strategy should be very easy to understand. So if the objective was a poster on the wall, 'Jim' could immediately relate it to his role and what he should be trying to achieve. ie. if an objective is error free undamaged 100% of the time, Jim knows that how he packs the product is an essential part of achieving this objective. Hope that makes sense.
Really liked the video. Would like to set up a warehouse for rent in Australia to sell cotton bags in Australia. Hope you can help me with some information
@@supplychainsecrets to advise a friend that owners a logistics company and make her understand the transportation market industry in order to diversify his transport market
one Question related previous episode: Ihave one very direct question, is procurement ( buying material & services ) consider part of logistics? Also, what is the global benchmark for logistics cost from product cost ? Are there research firm that make this analysis ?
Don't get worried too much about definitions. Many people use them differently. But normally Procurement is considered as part of Supply Chain. Logistics is more about the 'outbound' activities such as warehousing and transport. Global Benchmarks are different depending on the industry. So Logistics costs could be between 4-8% of sales. Hope that helps.
@@supplychainsecrets Thanks a lot for your feedback & explanation..but do not you think thatLogistics activities ( transportation, Warehousing, handling, and packaging) is bigger than 8.? Like to exchange useful info..
@@ismailnassar4103 No not bigger than 8%. I have Benchmarked almost 1,000 businesses using the SCOR methodology. It varies according to industry of course. What industry are you in?
Great material as always. Whenever I conduct interviews I look for a potential SC manager to mention these pillars of Safety, Service, Quality, Cost and one more… People. Without People, none of this is possible. Would you consider People under Safety or should it be a pillar on its own? What do you think?
I think it can often be included under safety, but in some industries safety is has to have a much higher priority and has a pillar of its own. Mining, steel, those kind of industries.
