Thank you very much, this was really helpful. I couldn't find anything on the internet that explained it to me but this was absolutely perfect.

You're welcome Aaron - the reason I made it is because after searching for entirely too long online coming up empty, I decided it was time to give back after I pieced it all together!

Thank you so much!! What a great explanation and proper demonstration with the components. This helped me with my report on engine cooling! :)

Thanks for a real good explanation of something I have been trying to understand. Showing the actual thermostat and mechanical vents and linkages was the key for me. I now had my “ah haaa” epiphany moment. Muchas Gracias.

We stopped running these finding them unnecessary for socal driving. We did see some where the thermostat would not open You could heat the bellows and they would stay shut. IDK how it would happen but it did. People say they fail closed but if those bellows would not move when you put the bellows in boiling water explain that?

I am swapping an engine from my sand rail to my Volkswagen Thing I noticed my Volkswagen Thing has this vent and I'm trying to figure out if I actually need to keep it I would think this is for a really cold day to add additional Heat to the cab

Heat comes from the exhaust system. 800 degrees going into the car.

Sorry I think you'd want to contact a salvage / junkyard to see if you they can help locate one.

Not really neeeded in warm climates. Germany winters yes.

yea, reasonably true but getting things warmed up in the proper order aka (head first rings and such expanded) might just extend engine life a little. besides ich maga meine motor heiss wie meine frau :)
