People look down at the Bailey era, but it's in that era that we got songs like this one. I regret nothing, there are several songs in both The X Factor and Virtual XI that I love.
It's by far my favorite concert of all time. I spent hours upon hours learning to play the guitar along with this DVD. From The Wicker Man straight through to Iron Maiden. It was just a killer setlist, a massive crowd and 6 guys with the fire back inside them after the trials and tribulations of the 90's. Up The Irons \m/
Hmmm I really may be wrong but thought he used a premier signia snare on the Brave New world tour 14x5.5". Fine fine snare whatever with more crack than ........... Can't say that lol 😁
Hi Andrew, I love how Nicko's bass pedals and drum fills are always in the pocket. Like reading the last page of a book where everything works out perfectly.
Kevin Shirley mixed and produced the audio, Dean Karr directed, but the footage was edited by Steve Harris. The whole show is just...chef's kiss, from beginning to end - highly recommended. If there is any downside, it's that the 3 guitarists were still figuring out how to really work together, so songs like The Trooper are missing the little additional harmonies that have become prevalent in the intervening years - but for energy this show is the business
the editing is awful - there are shots reused in multiple songs (FoTD / Hallowed) , and the audio is overdubbed as well (eg bruce doesn't sing the last few Whoa Whoas on Wickerman in the actual live show - but its copy pasted in the release) . if you want to hear a true (and best) representation of the BNW tour , look up the Dynamo recording.
@@benjambreeg There are far more overdubs than the Wicker Man vocal (whole sections are pasted in from other shows on that tour, and not just vocal), and I never targeted the editing in particular as being any good - but I do believe the whole show is great from a vibe and energy point of view, sonic tinkering and fit-inducing editing be damned. I heard a truer (and better) representation of the BNW Tour at Earls Court in London, Block 27, Row D, Seat 23 on June 16th 2000, adn then an even BETTER version at the special FC only event at Shepherds Bush Empire on Jan 6th 2001, which was I believe, one of the only times they played Out of The Silent Planet :) (and hey, at least the overdubbed and comped stuff on this show is from other live shows - Live After Death's overdubs are all studio recorded!)
Thanks as always for the videos, Andrew. I am not surprised that you went from an extended discovery of Ozzy's catalogue to Iron Maiden. They really are two of the best bands we've ever had that do this sort of thing......
My second favourite song from IM just behind "The rhyme..." I saw this song live with Blaze on vocals when they toured just before the album was released and was absolutely amaizing, but I have to say I really like this one with Bruce voice and energy. I know I will be crucify by some of your Andrewliebers here, but IM taught how the ProgMetal have to sound like, they are playing ProgMetal since mid 80´s
Andrew, i remember watching a documenary on this and the issue with the crowd claps, infact most crowd claps at maiden concerts are that the crowd clap along to the big screens. So as nicko is clapping in time, the fans watch him on the screen and it has a slight lag, so those who clap in time and those who clap to the screen clash. I remember Steve said he was gutted when he tried to mix it. you can hear the crowd in the mix kind of phase in and out due to them trying to fix it in the mix. So yeah, clapping to a lagged screen
that link in the comments to a modern drummer interview with nicko. he goes into detail about the angle of his ride, why it is that way and where he hits on it for various songs, why he uses 1 drumstick with the nipple and the other with the other end and so on. his advice to young drummers to practice a lot and to play different types of material at the start seems good if one wants to be really good.
The person who did all the work on the Iron Maiden DVD cutting table was Stevie Harris himself. The images and sound of the show were not good, and part of it was lost. Harris bought a video editing table, learned how to use it and was able to edit the images using parts of the shows recorded in Chile. Nicko and Bruce do their level best to guide the audience on meter and they always fuck it up, no matter where they are in the world. And this is the Brave New World Tour, so 23-24 years ago now, and yes, it's among Nick's best snares, without question. This was filmed in Rio and there was a malfunction they had to play through. They had a huge cross with an Eddie-style skeleton with wings across the top of the cross. And Bruce rose up behind the drums singing the intro quiet verses standing on the cross. Then when they got i to the heavy riff and "Standing alone in the wind and rain..." he jumps off the cross onto the playform behind Nick and the cross burts into flames. It was insane to see. You can see in this video at the beginning the chains behind Nicko where they wouldve lifted the cross, so i have to believe there was a malfunction and they just said fuck it keep going
Huge Iron Maiden fan here. Always thought the drums on this album were the best sounding of all maiden albums. The snare is killing. Wonder what it is ... The rest of the kit is a Signia Marquis i believe.
As I Lay Dying dropped off a brand new single “The Cave We Fear to Enter.” It’s the newest song coming from their upcoming album. They have 3 new members….

I saw IM in 2019 in Hartford Connecticut and the show was amazing The stage sets were out of this world and the sound was crisp and clear My only problem was that according to the promoter the band hadn't played my state in 28 yrs😮 and they didn't even do a 2 hr set Where as they did almost 3 hr sets leading up to the show Couple that with the $150 USD ticket price I felt a bit short changed Other than that I had a great time and the entire show is on Yt just sesrch IM Hartford Connecticut 2019 ✌️😎🧐🤘
Maiden's setlist and show length are the same every show, usually between an hour and 45 and 2 hours. They have never played almost a 3 hour set, and the 2019 tour was choreographed like a Broadway play because of the stage changes made for every song. And the promoter was wrong. I saw Maiden in Hartford in 2006, opening night of the A Matter of Life and Death tour.
@@talismanmia2537 Yep, you're 100% correct. Bruce's voice is more worn and the tempos are a bit slower, but other than that, they still nail it every night. Their consistency is incredible...Davey, Adrian and Janick haven't lost a step with their guitar playing. It's actually amazing how nimble their fingers still are given their ages.
The sound was off, could barely hear Janick during his solo. The Blaze years... X Factor is really top 3 Maiden albums in my eyes, I like it that much! Maiden showing why they are the grandfathers of BWOHM - just killin' it! 🤘
I love the Rock In Rio concert from 2001, but Steve decided to become an amateur video editor, and he's REALLY not cut out (ha! no pun intended) for it.
