It's waaaaaaaay easier *but* you have to relearn how it works. Once you have a couple basics together it's nuts how quickly you can program what you're thinking.
In the Nord Stage 3, it was possible to control a PAD or SEQUENCER with the Mod Wheel on PANEL B, even if it was deactivated. You could play on PANEL A and control PANEL B with HOLD, allowing the Mod Wheel to interact with the sustained PAD, even when PANEL B was inactive. Unfortunately, in the Stage 4, it's no longer possible to map the Mod Wheel to inactive channels with HOLD.💜🤔😢
Great tutorial! Any tips on how to organize sounds for live gigs now that Song mode is gone? I am thinking of organizing sounds chronologically within the 512 program locations - but it's hard to manage when you have 3-4 different gigs/bands.
It's Definitely less practical than the song mode, however this might make your life a little easier. I personally have cleared an entire bank but that isn't even really necessary. Anyhow, after making all the sounds I indeed set them chronologically per show. Then I make a sound pack per show within the nord sound manager (open manager -> select the sounds you want to put in the pack -> upload bundle on a drive/ laptop or desktop). That way you can just load up all the sounds in like 5 minutes for whatever gig, and you dont have tons of random presets all over the keyboard. Once I'm done and need to go on to the next gig, I just replace it with another sound pack I made (open manager -> select bundle at the location you saved it at -> Download bundle -> Replace all contents within bank). The pack saves the exact order in which you put it in so it will always be in the right order. Hope this helps!
Hi Dave! I've encountered a slight issue when using arpeggiator gate mode with pumper effect. It seems that the ducking comes just a little too early in time comparing to arpeggiator. I'm using everything with master clock. Did anyone else noticed something like that? Especially it comes out when trying arpeggiator grooves on 3rd's in a bar. @nordkeyboards
Dave - can you show how to keep all 3 internal synth layers active on the NS4 and send Program Change on load to 3 EXT midi channels to recall patches for a synth player with a full rig?
Does the Nord Stage 4 have a "Global" Octave shift down/up button? I know you can change the octaves individually per section Organ/Piano/Synths, but is there a Master Global Octave shift that affects ALL sections?
So, I play the Nord Stage 2 and have had it for about 10 years, and by far one of the most useful features for me is "pending load" as we'll be half way through a song and the band will mouth what song is next.. and this lets me then scroll to it and have it ready at a moments notice to jump to as soon as the current track ends. I've been made aware that the Stage 4 doesn't have this feature included, so i wondered how I would address this sort of thing in a live setting? We don't have a "set list" so to speak, its just random requests on the fly and we aim to go straight into the next track with no gaps, is this still possible? Thanks
There is seamless transitions on both the Stage 3 and Stage 4, which means you can go directly to your next patch without cutting off the sound of your current patch.
Ahoj, všetko som urobil pri extern keyboad ako vo videu, ale na nordstage4 mi hrá aj jeden aj druhy nastroj, zatiaľ čo na extern keyboard mi hrá ten požadovaný, čo robím zle?
BIG PROBLEM WITH STAGE 4. Just got my Stage 4 and I can't believe that the effects (Reverb and delay) cut out when you fade the volume. The effects chain is different to the stage 1-3 where the reverb trail and delay rings out when the volume is taken away. This is a HUGE step back for people that use the volume pedal.... So much expression is taken away. Returning mine and keeping my stage 3
Its not very clear what you actually mean. What do you mean when you fade the volume??? Fade the volume of what? A layer? If you assign a reverb to let say a synth-layer (in.ex with a pad)and morph the volume of that layer with a pedal do you mean that the effect volume follows the layer volume???
@@theclavermanwith the stage 3 when you cut out the patch volume with an expression pedal, the effects leave a trail. With the stage 4 when you cut out the patch volume via expression pedal it also takes away the delay and reverb so all sound is removed. It’s awkward to explain, but this is a huge step back for me. I used to swirl the volume in/out and when the volume was cut the delay would still linger. It’s so expressive with pads etc so I ended up returning my stage 4 and now happy as ever with my stage 3.
@@ElliottHerringtonHmm…I need to try that for myself in the music-store. Sounds strange. I also own the Stage 3(88), and have no plans to sell it anytime soon.
They’re two completely different machines with different purposes. The montage is an amazing synth, the Nord Stage is as the name suggests a Stage Piano, with an excellent analogue modelling synth built in.
Buy the time you fiddle around with every parameter there’s no time for practice or rehearsal- sorry but a great piano, organ, string and horn all you need for live performances
That rug really brings the Nord together.
Best introduction to the Stage 4 I have seen 👍😊
The VERY BEST tutorial on how to use your Nord Stage 4 - massive thank you.
Dave, can you please make more Nord Stage 4 tutorials? First up is a detailed tutorial on the synth engine in Stage 4.
Yes Pleeeease!!!
This give me the perfect idea of What the stage 4 is, a monster workhorse without competitors! The sound then is gorgeous 🔥🫶
Can you give a tutorial on how to bring the price down? ;)
Zinc
😂😂😂
Buy it in other countries. I‘m from austria and I‘m buying it from switzerland at approx 600€ less
😂
😂
This is the Best introduction !! Thanks
Best tutorial about NS4 ! Please more.
Best Tutorial I have ever seen. Please more !!!
Best demo yet! Thanks
Agree best introduction yet. Maybe a more in-depth look at each section ( Organ - Piano - Synth ) plus the effects. Cheers 👍🏽
Finally we have a tutorial of this thing it gave me a headache at the music store not as easy to use compared to the 3 in my opinion

Finally a great tutorial for the NS4, thank you Nord 😅
I learned a lot from this video. Thank you!
More!!!

@@lucapotlood6368 Thank you so much for this answer. I am going to consider your workaround. Thx!
Dave, please can you make sound banks for Nord Stage 4?
thank you!!!
The camera is too far away can’t see what your pressing.

Why are there no more video tutorials about the Stage 4? Topic-related videos about the Synth Engine, for example?
Also the Wave 2 on top, were is the audio going, is it going back into the Stage 4 then out its outputs, or via an external mixer? thanks

Very good , but why no zoom in on screen? Also organ A and B must have same effects.
ns4 is an art. I love it so much.

5:50 36:55 feature is cool.
00:02 Wow...Its pretty much Blade Runner isshh 💯💯❤❤👌👌
can i use scene ii in aux kb while simultaneously play the scene 1?
casually shredding this nordstage in a tutorial puuh
Just saying, I think Nord should get Tony from Bonners Pianos to do all the Stage 4 videos …
Tony is one of the best, but I do enjoy seeing what others do with it.
všetko som urobil, ako je vo videu, ale aj napriek tomu mi hrá extern keyboard správne ale Nord stage 4 hrá obe vrstvy... čo môže byť zle?
Why remove song mode, rotor/horn balance, and the low key click from the new board all ley important features of the stage flagship.
that rug though ....
I'd love to one-day work with Nord piano keyboard
They're really pitching for the church market eh .

Sorry this synth is not a synth , be honest the montage m is the real thing

Depends on what type of music you're doing. If that's all I did in my band I'd be out of a job.
