It really was!!!. I think it was the 3rd dress I ever made. It didn’t even fit. But I’ve made some much better things since then. What have you made sis? 🥰
The scene with you teaching your son to iron. It gave me all the feelings. That’s how I learned. Just make sure you tell him why you iron on arm of the sofa. My mom didn’t have a pressing ham so for curved seams she’d use the round arm of the sofa. Confused me for years. Love your videos.
Hi there! Add me to the list of your followers who finds your journey inspiring. You really challenge yourself, lady. It’s helping me get more sewing done, not kidding here. Also props on teaching your kid to help momma out! Lastly thanks for sewing vintage patterns. They are my favorite to watch because they’re so much more ingeniously drafted. A lot of the other channels I watch don’t post enough 20th Century vintage patterns.
Thank you for such kind words. And I most definitely will add to you that short list 😊 But honestly, it means the world to me that you watch and take your time to write me and little note and the fact you find it inspiring! That’s the cherry 🍒 ❤️Drew
@@SewSewDrew It's true, after I watch you push your sewing boundaries, I suddenly start itching to stop your videos and do some sewing of my own. And I do! After writing that comment last night, I fired up my sewing machine and finished the cuff on the muslin I'm making for my guy's button-down shirt. It was just the cuff but every little bit counts. A little sewing every day. That's my goal. Even if I only get 1 garment made a month, that's still 12 at the end of the year! That's what I figure anyway. Keep laying down those stitches, lady.
thank you! this was my first big project. I was still so new to sewing and filming. I really want to try this one again and see my growth! Thanks for watching its an old one!
Lovely! I'm catching up on some of your previous videos. I had to laugh when I saw the super long nails. I used to have a manicure/pedicure booth in a salon. My nails were super long back then. Now I can't keep them short enough as I've transitioned into a potter and sewist. Full circle? I bought a serger when I got my sewing machine. I could envision those fraying ends under control with little effort. If you don't have a serger yet, zig zag those edges before assembling. It's a bit more work but for a regular wearing garment is totally worth it. Keep up with the beautiful joy of creating your own style. I'm currently making a muslin corset. My plan is to actually wear it under clothes. It's a practice run for a jacquard corset I will make. The jacquard will be worn over a blouse as a daily wear garment.
I have transitioned to the shorter nails as well. The long ones are a headache! I haven’t gotten a serger yet I usually pink my seams now. Good luck on your Muslin corset and thanks for watching ❤️
You have a lot of courage to take this on. Older patterns assume skills modern people aren't taught, so some things were lost in the translation. As your experience grows, you may take this apart and finish it with greater finesse. I have done that with my own sewing as i get more discerning about construction and fabric choice. The color is nice. The fabric needed a little help, though, being too flimsy for the style. Keep going. You have a good start here.
I'm making my first ever dress right now, also using like, 3dollar a yard satin. I completely understand the difficulties you had, but honestly your dress turned out to be so beautiful! It gives me hope for mine haha
When working with silk or any slippery fabric you might wanna try a walking foot. They have feed dogs on the bottom of that foot as well as the feed dogs on your sewing machine.
A pc of paper under the fabric can help youSew it together straight..... Then just rip the paper off. You might want to start understitching The facings particularly at the outer edges of the garment it will help prevent them from stretching and Keep the raw edges from fraying out
Very lovely! I wonder if you could line that bow with a heavier, stiffer interfacing or boning if you wanted it to stand up? Either way, very nice job. Beautiful dress!

9& 11 I look forward to those ages! There will definitely be a few years between lesson one and lesson two lol. He’s is not quite sure if he is left hand or right hand dominate so it was very scary. My two year old Major is the daredevil so much so that Maverik can’t have the bunk bed he really wants. I’m scared of what she might do. 😐 Thanks for taking the time to watch & comment. 😊
A mess

Love to see your journey. "Mess" 😉 and all. Love your color choice and overall look. Great job.
Yes you are.

Thank you! And thanks for the tip. I don’t have a pressing ham either your mom is pretty clever. It’s so funny I bet that was confusing to a kid.
That dress is soooo beautiful. I hope it fits u now? Maybe try it again? I wouldn't try it even once so good on u for taking it on.
Thank you! I think I’m going to give the same patter a try this year just to see my growth as a seamstress in a tangible way!
“Photographs are just optical illusions of what our lives really look like” oof, especially this year.
Beautiful results!!
Thank you! And Yes this year for sure! Oh I’m so ready to put it in my rear view..
I have a Baby Lock serger machine for so long. I love it

Yay good for you!
Whoa. I knew that we discussed this, I never watched this video! Oh this is going to be good!!
It’s a old one. I think it might have been my 3rd so the production value is a little….Meh. I can’t wait to do it over
It is a old one 🙂. I am watching the old videos.
❤️
The dress is beautiful and you did a great job.
Elegant!
Thank you!
it’s lovely! i love the front of the gown as well!!

I can't imagine sewing with nails, so that's impressive. My sister used to call them Lee's Fall Off Nails, incidentally.
Yes I believe when the salons were closed I was trying all the different press on one lol 😆
The color is beautiful!!
I really loved this dress. I can now be honest and say it didn’t fit! That’s why there were no final photos 😊
Wow, you did a great job. I love the front and colour.
Thank you! And thanks for watching I’m glad to put my first evening gown behind me. So I’m no longer afraid, but excited for the next one!
Invest in getting a garment steamer for satin and silk or difficult to iron fabrics. Great Channel!
Thank you! And I have a steamer I’ve never used. I’ll pull it out. I always have this fear of new things and techniques that I’m trying to get past 😊
This came out so beautiful
Aw thank you sweetheart ❤️
I hope you show the family Christmas picture sometime 😍 You did an excellent job, dress is beautiful 🥰
Gorgeous dress and gorgeous color!!! Wonderful job!!!
Beautiful
Beautiful ❤️😍
Maverick is adorable!!
He will be so thrilled you left a comment about him he loves when he is in the videos ♥️ Thank you ♥️
@@SewSewDrew Love that!!!
Love this pattern. Your dress turned out amazing!
Thank you 😊
Not done but I can already tell this is going to be gorgeous

Thank you so much I’m thinking of giving this a try again this holiday season!
I love it!! So beautiful!

I wish you all the luck!! That fabric is very ambitious for a beginner but if you even almost pull it off you will be soooo proud!

Thank you! I’m working with silk now and it’s been a nightmare. I took to ironing it with heavy starch to make it more agreeable 😬

One of my first makes and the hardest for sure I’m thinking of giving it a try again this holiday season as I have a bit more experience ♥️

Oh, is there another video with you wearing the dress? I want to see. I hope you got some footage or at least some stills of it.

wowowowow
You are brave. My kids are almost 9 and almost 11. I get nervous having the help cook let alone learn to iron. My kids are daredevils.

Have you been seeing for a while? Have you ever taken a swing class. You have such enthusiasm but get disappointed so quickly.
I’ve been sewing almost 3 years not really consistently I have two small children. Never took a class. 😊
@@SewSewDrew I know alot of really good sewists. If you get stuck feel free to reach out.
That’s so kind ❤️
