The Shadowland tarot is in my top 5. I adore. The book has the only approach to shadow work I have experienced that is supportive, productive and ethically responsible. Can’t praise Monica’s work enough.
I use Lenormand in my own way too, I do not follow it's specific system. I can say that it give me crazy accurate info too, it hasn't been wrong once. So I totally agree Simon, divination tools are divination tools, you do not really need to follow a system, it's really about how you intuitively pick up on the message coming via the cards. I find the same with the Thoth deck too. The cards speak to me, the message is received and interpreted intuitively and no need for a specific system at all...
Love this Lenormand deck just as much as the Shadowlands Tarot. I really like Monica’s art style, I will add this one to the list as I am going to learn Lenormand 🥰❤️
Thanks for the walk through, Simon. I love all of Monica's decks and also would love to see her create an Oracle! The black line-work in the House of Shadows reminds me of Edward Gorey's artwork style in the Fantod and Helpless Doorknob card decks (available on Amazon), and I enjoy using them all together as an oracle.
It's pretty good as a modern take, it has central identifiable images that aren't too busy, so you could easily see patterns in a large spread. The traditional meanings all come through in the images, I really like that the same figures are travelling through the cards. The images have directionality so you could read them in tableau spreads. They don't have playing card insets which might make that aspect tricky but other than that, it's got the key ingredients.
I love her Lenormand. I think I almost like it more than Shadowland, which is an amazing deck also. Thank you so much for this flip-through, I really appreciate them -- and you.
Oh wow! I saw Monica Bodirsky in Mystic Rose's (Aimee) discussion about vintage/modern tarot decks yesterday. I told her I loved her, it was unrequited. LOL Her art makes me laugh and still gets its point across like a laser. She reminds me a bit of Edward Gorey, in her own style but with that sly, dark humor and clear-eyed view. I love the bat flying in the Garden card it's absolutely the perfect little touch that makes it brilliant. I'm going to have to buy this and I don't even read Lenormand. I know, I know, they can be read as an Oracle deck but I've been meaning to learn Lenormand along with five thousand other things... phhht. Anyway, thank you Simon. For the love of Monica Bodirsky indeed!
There seems to be a buzz in the community for Lenormand lately. I don’t have the Shadowland tarot yet. I think it’s one of those decks I need to see in person to know if I can connect with it - might need to go on my list. 😊 Thanks for the walkthrough!
I love Monica’s art work it always make me chuckle. This new Lenormand is on my wish list, appreciate the side by side thanks Simon. The issue with larger Lenormand decks is when you want to use all 36 cards for a Grand Tableau, you need more space and this deck would be tricky if you were doing a video reading. But I’d still use this deck for smaller readings and live that it mirrors the tarot. My Shadowland Tarot bowed as well and not sure why as never rifled it.
Like you, I love my Shadowlands tarot. I want to study Lenormand but don't want Shadowlands deck as it is too similar in size/design to the tarot. Can you suggest where I might get the House of Shadows in the UK.
