He said it seemed like a really simple, low impact job that to most people would probably be really boring. If any of these sources show something bad, we're talking about tens of thousands of people potentially dying." When I watch this I think back to that conversation we had.
I live in an area with really high pollution levels, and we often get water main breaks--and by extension, we get boil advisories pretty frequently, so this was *chefs kiss* A+ for me. This was awesome, great job!

This is really good! The footage really looks like it came out of the 90's, and if you told me it really was I'd believe you. Only gripe is that some of the non-footage parts look a little too sharp for the time. Though, some of them looked REALLY spot-on. Keep up the great work, as I can see this getting popular in the future.

I am really glad I found this because this is an incredible example of the subtlety that is missing from analog horror a lot of the time. Sure I like the more overt stuff too, but this actually feels like someone went through some old tapes and found some weird stuff that will never be explained. I can’t tell what exactly happened or why, and that feeling is frankly unsatisfying, but that is exactly the point. You would never know and that is by far the greater horror. I feel like if there was more emphasis on “the sick are no longer human” either by repetition or just not including the “stay human, don’t drink the water” part it would’ve felt more impactful. To me it sounded like a slogan rather than a statement
Interesting. My personal interpretation is this- There wasn’t something sinister in terms of otherworldly eldritch abominations, but from something more mundane-greed and power. The Parish took money under the table in exchange for the waste company to use a landfill that had some impact on drinking sources. Someone realized the disaster that was to unfold, and tried to warn the populace, but the Parish censored it as much as they could…until it got big enough for the community to get under new, more effective leadership. Basically, a plausible environmental disaster that can happen in our world.

There is a town in, I think its California, where the water was/is legitimately toxic and the local government kept telling people that it was perfectly safe to drink, despite people being able to buy a toxicity test from their local hardware store, stick it under the tap and go "Yep, can't drink that." The media got really weird about it too, from what I recall. Its not the first time either. Its how Erin Brockovich got famous back in the nineties due to toxic water in another state after all. Its why i find this one so scarily plausible. It's happened twice already...

The water became brown all over town, and the council never said anything about it, it happened before Christmas, than came back in January-February and then for a while in the middle of February it went back to normal then became brown again then it stopped around the end of February.
At the first months after the COVID-19 pandemics hit Rio de Janeiro, we got very conflicting news about polution in the water suply. It was obvious by the smell that the water was poluted, and anyone who knew the main reservoir could tell it was heavily poluted, but no one knew at what extend. The news told different versions, depending on how well they were conected with the state government, and the public water company never released a clear statement - in fact, they denied that the water was undrinkable, even though the smell, taste and color were so disgusting that boiling was just not enough. The late official version tells of contamination by geosmin, which is the harmless substance released by soil bacteria, made evident when it rains - but what kind of bacteria, which could very well not be so harmless, was living in the water that was releasing geosmin? I was lucky that there is a mineral water fountain up my street, but bringing a 20L water gallon upstairs to my 4th floor apartment, like, 3 times a week, was not easy :P From what I know, they kinda solved the problem throwing large amounts of charcoal in their main reservoir and just prayed that it would work. It kinda did, but I have to clean my filter every month to wash out the strange red mud that forms around it so frequently. So this video is all so relatable :P

It's weird to watch an Analog Horror video that takes place somewhere I know personally. I'm from Slidell, but I went to SLU in Hammond for 4 years and spent time there when my sister attended a decade prior. I mean, even that nursery at the beginning is a real place!
I personally feel like this would have been better overall if it had been less blatant about the water being contaminated. More stuff like the water bottle message and the message to leave would have worked much better. The footage of the dump was also unnerving even with it being played normally. I see a lot of potential, but the main thing that kills it is the voice over some of the advisories.

Good start. Using the same font for everything broke the immersion some as it made both the "rebels" ad the parish the same aesthetic. You have great ideas and I'm excited to see where they lead.
It’s crazy to me that you noticed that, but I actually did that on purpose. Maybe it was a mistake to do so, but my thought was at the time, there were so few fonts available on those old linear editors. Also, in my mind, all of these videos would’ve been made in the same station. Night crew vs day crew etc. Great eye for detail to you though.
@@vintageeight having known people who worked in local broadcast yes the amount of fonts was usually one and maybe like 2 if you were a tech editing wizard with nothing but time on your hands. If you want to get into the typography of the era, literally it was more technical limitations for those digital fonts.

Before even watching reading like, actual ratings for this? Makes me super hyped to watch Before even watching really just honestly hope you gain the recognition that is deserved
When I first saw this I figured nothing could top it. Then I was like "oh! The prophet arc is the best!" And then I was like "oh man! Swarm! This is the best!" Now I'm back here again and realizing that I can't pick a favorite because it's all the same story and each new chapter adds something to the old so that it's never really over.
I think this has great potential. The idea is solid, I absolutely love the biohazard theme especially relating to such a universal resource. This is a great idea ti expand upon! I will say, the overall effects could use some touch ups to appear more realistic/vintage. I can’t say I have advice on this, though I’m sure its something that improved with research. Additionally, I feel that the text in between the clips should be made less personal if you seek to make them fearful of their own discoveries. One of the largest pieces detouring fright from the film is the voice acting; I think you should opt for a completely robotic/synthetic voice. Lastly, I think the real life clips need to be shortened or adapted because they kind of act as unneeded filler. Hope this takes off!!

Lol there’s something really funny about this dude at 3:13 blustering his way through a mealy-mouthed PR piece with energetic upbeat America’s Funniest Home Videos music playing behind him. Hahahahaha I LOVE 6:52, something about “DRINK” flashing on screen like a subliminal command is so funny to me for some reason. Like it’s so shameless and not subtle at all for the virus hosts to be that aggressive.
I think someone at the station was sympathetic, and those people actually held the station for a week while running the evacuation order. See the message about “new management” - I think a siege may have been broken then.

I'm imagining amoebas with properties similar to the cordyceps genus of fungi (minus the ascocarp). It might eat a hole in the host's brain big enough to nestle into whereupon it would begin to rewire the conscious mind of the afflicted to pursue a singular goal, turning the populace into some sort of malicious, cult-like hive mind.
You should really “show, not tell” more. Don’t tell me “ohh people panicked and none wanted an interview”. Show me a newscast of people panicking, or a newspaper, or something. You keep setting up huge moments throughout the video and they fall flat because the payoff is white text on black that reads “and then something SUPER SCARY happened” only to then go onto the next segment

You are correct. A lot of this footage is straight out of the time period. Some of it comes as far back as the 80s.

This is very good, i don't know why it only has 41k views, hope it goes wayy up cause your work is great
When I first saw this I figured nothing could top it. Then I was like "oh! The prophet arc is the best!" And then I was like "oh man! Swarm! This is the best!" Now I'm back here again and realizing that I can't pick a favorite because it's all the same story and each new chapter adds something to the old so that it's never really over.

I think this has great potential. The idea is solid, I absolutely love the biohazard theme especially relating to such a universal resource. This is a great idea ti expand upon!
I will say, the overall effects could use some touch ups to appear more realistic/vintage. I can’t say I have advice on this, though I’m sure its something that improved with research.
Additionally, I feel that the text in between the clips should be made less personal if you seek to make them fearful of their own discoveries.
One of the largest pieces detouring fright from the film is the voice acting; I think you should opt for a completely robotic/synthetic voice.
Lastly, I think the real life clips need to be shortened or adapted because they kind of act as unneeded filler.

You should really “show, not tell” more. Don’t tell me “ohh people panicked and none wanted an interview”. Show me a newscast of people panicking, or a newspaper, or something. You keep setting up huge moments throughout the video and they fall flat because the payoff is white text on black that reads “and then something SUPER SCARY happened” only to then go onto the next segment
