Like if I were to take it outside, would the sun melt it? Or could it melt just from your body heat while handling it? Have you shipped pieces made with beeswax, and did they arrive ok? I’m super excited to try it out and haven’t found answers elsewhere. If you don’t have time to answer, I just hope you know how much I appreciate your video! 😊🫶🏻
Thank you ☺️ the mug warming plate I use I set it at 190 degrees F and it keeps the wax completed melted while I’m using it. But I think it needs to be at least over 150 to melt it to where it’s liquified and you can easily apply it, so body heat alone isn’t hot enough. I’ve shipped probably hundreds of sculptures out at this point to people all over the world and never had an issue with the wax re-melting in transit. Most likely due to sealing it in with a medium like modpodge or a similar medium like paverpol. Have fun!

Hello, I just wanted to know of there is an approximate ratio/measurement you use for the beeswax and coconut oil mix, since my attempts have not turned out to be putty-like, per se. It comes together but bits can and do come off, it is not runny, either. Lots and lots of it accumulates on my hands. Thanks in advance. By the way, I could only find extra virgin coconut oil, do you think that might be the case? I cut up about 10mg of a 30mg beeswax bar, also.
Unfortunately..I don’t have an exact measurement ratio I could give you (I more or less just eye ball it).. however, you definitely want more wax than oil. If there’s too much coconut oil mixed in, then I could see how it would be to soft/mushy and just become a sticky mess. What I would recommend is start off with just the melting wax, and then use a little scooper (like a popsicle stick or a little spoon) to add small bits of coconut oil..less than dime size. Mix it together and then take it off the heat. Let it solidify, and check the texture. The point of the oil is to soften the wax just enough so it’s pliable (almost like clay), so that will be the consistency you’re going for. It should still be sticky, but not so much where you can’t work with it. If you find you’ve added too much oil, and it’s too soft, then add a little wax to counter balance it. I wouldn’t think it being extra virgin coconut oil would make too much of a difference. The coconut oil I use almost looks like Vaseline; I’ve also used lanolin which works great too. The lanolin I bought off amazon (it was pretty cheap, like $12 for a medium sized tub). I’ll take some measurements next time I make a batch, and I’ll add it to the video description along with some links to the products I use that work well for this method. If there’s any other questions or anything else I can answer to help just let me know! 🙂
Ugh.... my fingers just keep unraveling and I used so much wax. When I bend the wire after I wrap it, it buckles and starts unsticking. I'm going to try tacky glue, instead.
Sorry to bother you about this. I read your comments and your suggestion of 3 parts wax to 1 part oil. Did that. Did not work ... tweaked it again and again. Finally got something kind of like yours, but when it cools down it does not stay pliable. It breaks up. Any suggestion. Using bees wax pellets, cosmetic grade and coconut oil. ( by the way my cat likes it 😁)
If when it cools, it’s still too stiff to work with, then you need more oil. The amount of coconut oil you add will dictate how pliable it is. Try adding twice the amount of oil next time and see if that helps. If you go too much with the oil and it’s just so sticky it’s hard to work with, heat it back up and add a little wax. It’s a fine balance of the two to get the right consistency Hope that helps!

Keep doing that until it reaches the consistency you want. You want it to be soft enough where you can mold it in your hands but still hard enough without it leaving a lot of residue behind on your fingers. Of course your fingers will have a little residue on them, but it shouldn’t be leaving sticky globs of wax on them. Hope that helps. Next time I make a batch I’ll measure it out and add it to the description box below the video.
What brand are those snips you are using? I'm looking for a good pair. I'm trying to cut through floral wire with mine and they won't cut through the paper around the wire.
Margie Hubbard they are Fiskar snips. I like them. Easy on the hands, and they’re really sharp. They sell them on Amazon and I think in craft stores like Michaels 👍

Hi! Yes that can happen if you don’t pinch the wires together firm enough at the base (the ‘palm’ area if you will). It will still be a little loose until you wrap it with wool though, so try to pinch the wire at the base the best you can while keeping everything in line. Wrapping a thin amount wool roving in between the fingers and around the palm area will help hold everything together pretty well. Give it a few stabs with the felting needle too. Let me know if that helps xx
By the way, I notice you are wearing nail varnish & thought you may like to know that nail varnish contains chemicals which are very hazardous to our health! *Triphenol phosphate* - disrupts function of endocrine system, disrupts metabolism & reproductive system & causes allergies *formaldehyde* - causes breathing problems, increases risk of developing lung cancer, can cause embryonic mutations *dibutyl phthalate* - harms reproductive functions, disrupts liver & kidney function, causes hormonal imbalances *toluol* - affects nervous system, suppresses immunity, damages blood circulation *camphor* - causes convulsions & is a strong allergen. These chemicals leech through the nail & into your body. Just felt it important to share.
Oh I know. Some of the polish contains some nasty stuff! The salon I go to offers non-toxic water based polish though, so I use that now instead. They are finally coming out with some healthier alternatives and more salons around are starting to carry them.

- 26g for the white wire (the hand wire)

I’m not sure what kind of wax is used in a Diamond art kit, but the kind I use is bees wax. If it’s sticky enough it should work though
