You do get to keep it. What he is saying is NOT true. If you purchase and download the movie in your iTunes library...you never lose it. However, if you do NOT purchase and download it and just watch it or rent it...then of course you are not going to own it. I know a guy who has over 1,500 movies in his digital library on iTunes and NOT 1 has been removed. I reached out to Apple and they have confirmed that you do not lose a movie that you have purchased in your library. If you do...for some odd reason. They will refund you as long as you have your receipt. iTunes is the better way to go for building your digital library because Apple is NOT going anywhere. Those other platforms like Vudu and others...I'm not so sure about.

Its even worse for audiobooks on iTunes. I had about 30 star wars audiobooks and when disney bought lucasfilm I lost all of them. Then they re relased the same audiobooks under Disney Lucasfilm and refused to even give anyone a discount on the re released ones. Really messed up as i spent a alot on those. The person at apple did feel bad and she was really nice and I think kinda was on my side about it and even though she couldnt get my audiobooks back gave me a 100 dollar credit to buy other stuff. But still did not make up for my collection as most of the audio books go between 25 and 45 depending if you want the abrigied or un abrigied. After that I stoped buying anything digital. Physcial media is something everyone should stick with. You are really at the mercy of the studios when you buy digital.

I have purchased at least $2,000 on Vudu films! I have a huge Vudu library. Thank for this video. It makes sense, if you have any thoughts on how I can cove me are a little so that I do not lose all the movies and the money spent to buy them. I am admittedly a film fanatic and I am watching one of your videos thinking I should figure a way to download them onto my IMAC. I just made the switch to physical because of censorship. They are pulling movies and episodes, as well as going in and censoring parts of movies. Fuck that. I'm an adult. I want to see the media I love, whether it offends other people or not. While they can edit re-releases, if the movie is already out there I can watch it and continue to watch it the way it's supposed to be presented

So very true! I love all my physical media.
Unfortunately the scene cutting already happened in Toy Story 2. They cut out a post credit scene with Stinky Pete with Barbie, because it was offensive... I even think it’s cut from the new physical release!
Another worry of mine is that if I ever move to a different country, my digital collection might be completely unavailable... so that is where you really realize you do not own anything digital.
On the other hand I really like that the physical releases come with digital codes! Very convenient to access my movies digitally if I want to. I hope they don’t stop doing that...

I've been doing digital movies for almost 20 years. My movie count is at 2464 currently and what you described has happened to me, but nowadays the way everything is becoming more linked through the providers it's resolved a lot of these issues. When you buy a movie through Movies Anywhere, you're issued a license through all the linked providers so if a provider does lose their license, then the movie would remain in the other providers. That being said, I haven't had much of an issue in 20 years. I had more problems with people borrowing movies and not returning them. Also, I had issues insuring my full library when I went physical. Don't get me started on actually looking for a movie when you want to watch it on physical when you have over 600 titles.

I know you don't technically own digital movies but on Vudu I've never lost the ability to watch any movie in my collection over distribution rights. I've been collecting digitally for almost four years and have quite a large collection. Even when Vudu loses the rights to sell a movie it's still in my collection and I can still watch it. iTunes is a different story, I've heard stories of people losing movies on there periodically. They must have a different contract with studios or something.

I only found this out by having a check to make sure I had the complete series. Anyway, I'm still able to stream them. Thankfully, I downloaded them all at the time of purchase so I have backups but the point I'm making here is that despite no longer being on iTunes, I can still stream the episodes if I want to rather than watching one on my PC that's on the Hard Drive.

I commented on here before but I was just wondering if somehow a digital retailer pulled a movie off of their platform, could a person request a refund because to me it would be shitty if they didn't. Also, another thing to note is nobody spends a second reading their stupid terms of use and policies. The way I see it, if they refuse to give you a refund or physical copy then you could sue them for theft of the money that you work for. I have 400 digital movies. I'm not spending money to have them take my money with nothing in return if this ever does happen. That's a lot of fucking money I spent on digital movies. Recently, I've been buying a lot of blurays and DVDs which are actually cheaper plus I can actually keep them forever.

The dvds have expiring ingredients and after about 8 years they start to mess up. So you own the dvd you bought but you only own it until it starts messing up then its gone forever unless the studio feels like putting it back into rotation because like any fair businesses they have to file for each individual movie titles that they claim losses on so why would they want to put open businesses again on the same titles. Maybe youll buy it again maybe not......but nothing last forever lol.....also DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING AND TAKE CARE OF IT AND IT WILL LAST YOUR MONIES WORTH. The digital vendors were made for downloadphiles. So choose your path wisley.

    • @yoyoskillz69

also who really knows how much it would cost really to make a movie the get approved for a ridiculous budget to pay like 3 or 4 main characters 7-8 grand plus everything is CGI now half of the crazy effect movies are done on computer but they get a budget of 9 million to make a movie where does the rest of the money go those dvds well there are pennies to make and they already own the master film too so thats all profit when they turn around and sell them so where does someone get approved to make a 9million dollar movie and while it is still in theaters it makes world wide 75 million before it even comes out on dvds or digital....not all movies made get that kind of turn around so there has to be some loss i know you dont get approved to flop your movie but here is 9 million anyway lol

    • @yoyoskillz69

    • @yoyoskillz69
      @yoyoskillz69 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@Mike P alot of work, and data caps also you loose an extra layer of protection unless you set it up your nas and router correctly but then people that have worked for all those companies would know how to breach your content even your isp. whats confusing too is that when a digital vendor doesnt have the content available anymore. Your able to download or stream it when it is available, not to mention you have a receipt that you have purchased ownership of that same copy they were allowed to have on thier servers when you downloaded it. Now instead of only being able to play it in thier app or player only as soon as they loose those rights to your purchased content but you have it downloaded on a device you should be able to play that title however and in whatever media player that supports that format and codec and you still can keep the protection you paid for when you first bought it and downloadd it. Also, if a digital vendor can setup a One world super Nas system that keeps track of what you have downloaded from your purchased content then that same company should have a seperate nas connected to a virtual nas system that virtually creates a shortcut to where your original download content is housed (through the company you made the purchase from) and so if they loose thier rights, for example between the studios and digital vendors, to sell it or have available to stream it at least we still have a place to go back if we downloaded it in the past and be able to redownload from this location from a consumer standpoint that sounds reasonable and fair. If a company cant afford that kind of set up then your SOL, just take care of what you download and download your stuff asap. The way its setup like you said expensive longterm renting for the non downloading parties speaking digitally it would take money for them to make money but why wont the original owners (studios) that paid to have the movie made and built do this kind of service themselves. kind of funny how they have to add so ma ny middle men between them and thier digital businesses and then also right terms and conditions that help them keep making money for longterms in the future with something as a home made 🎪 circus (entertainment) in our living rooms. Studios only paid to have it made the studios are not the circus themselves.

Theb another 3 dvd players" because when you purchased your blu ray discs you couldn't play blu ray on a DVD machine so you had to upgrade your machine to accommodate the blu-rays. If you buy 4K or whatever the next technology will be, your existing machines won't play those new disc. So sounds like you also had (at least 3) DVD machines that "broke/outdated" & couldn't play the newest blu ray disc just like VHS players are getting harder to find making that technology go the way of cassettes & 8-tracks.

iTunes or now called TV App still offers very poor Quality, if you download it even gets much worse. For example. "The nice Guys" has 384kbit Audio, quit bad, if you download you get.... 92kbit. We have 2020 and not 1980. Thats not acceptable. That just sucks. so downloading will never be an option for me, even if i have 14TB of storage. you can not even download 4k movies, only an very poor 1080p version with around 4-5gb. Wow...
I tested some movies on itunes, from 1080p to 4k with atmos etc. Its unbelievable bad quality if you own an 75" direct led screen and a 7.1 home cinema. I would not even buy those moives for 1$. i bought 4 movies to test, but did only watch two of them yet. They sound so horrible.
I would realy love to dive into the digital world, but if quality matters for you, i have to stick to physical or at least buy and rip to iTunes with 640kbit. With that you get 1080p Movies look and sound 4 times better than any iTunes 4k movie. thats sure.
The movies i bought in the store have about 18Mbit in 4k with 384 or even 164kbit Audio. All my Discs in iTunes has about 25Mbit and 640kbit Audio. Thats a loooot of difference.

The same thing happened in the UK. BlinkBox was a digital provider for movies/tv shows, but after just a few years the company was sold to TalkTalk (broadband provider) TV who renamed the business (#same name - TalkTalk TV), and then about a year later the company was sold off again to WuakiTV,. This brought around a situation where all the movies I owned with BlinkBox/TalkTalkTV (John Wick, John Wick 2, Jurassic World, Game of Thrones - season 6/7, etc.) are now completely dead and inaccessible to myself because WaukiTV totally sucks and lost all my previously bought stuff.
This is why I personally fell in love with physical media again after many years and am now an avid collector of blu-ray and steelbook movies. If your careful when purchasing physical movies then you can ensure before buying that they come with digital codes so that you get the best of both worlds, physical for watching movies at home, and digital codes for watching movies on the go. That’s why I shop around when buying blu-rays/4K blu-rays/steelbooks, and physical media (especially movies) is definitely the way to go moving forward.
Thanks for the telling video. Truly good stuff, as always.

An it also made me stop and think, if UltraViolet is shutting down for good, then how long before they all do? That means the Thousands of dollars I have spent, buying TV shows/Movies, will go down the drain without a thing to show for it! The reason I did it in the first place was the same reason a lot of people do, because we are to lazy to find a DVD/Blu Ray put it in, when with streaming we just push a button, and we have what we want to watch. Sure there is hard drives , but they don't make them like they use to and over time the picture gets corrupt, so that's out. I knew something was up when Sony Pictures Store was shutting down, then UltraViolet was next! I have become aware of this recently and I am trying to download as much of my digital as I can. The kicker to it is that now that I have downloaded some movies I purchased (from Prime - the ones Prime will ALLOW me to anyway - and Vudu) I cannot locate the files on my hard drive. I want to make backups for the inevitable system crash.... Any suggestions? I am considering search utilities, but don't know which one would be best for this type of search. My OS is Windows 10.

Off the cuff I don’t but let me get in contact with my tech friends and I’ll get back to you.
