I think it is not fair to say that Europe does not understand China, their interactions with China started many years even before the US was a country, but the US has so much influence and power that, Europe was firmly under their grips, and made sure Europe cannot make independence decisions 😢
That's not what George Yeo is saying here. He is saying that the CURRENT generation of political leaders have a superficial understanding of China. So what if Europe's interaction with China started many years ago? Political leaders don't just get elected and automatically inherit the knowledge of their predecessors, do they?

从来没有人 意识到，但是真实的。在中国宗教神职人员，譬如和尚道士尼姑回民或西方的传教士，在中国是看不起一职业，不是至高无上的。宗教从来没有征服过中国人。
不是看不起，中国自古以来玩宗教干扰到政治就不得好死，你以为禅宗是怎么出来的，说直接点就是被中国的制度杀出来的。哪怕到现在也就大陆的佛教还算温良，看一眼岛上多少玩佛邪的？欧美日韩台东南亚很多佛教流派都变成轮子的附属一样了。查一下林黛玉的扮演者陈晓旭是怎么被忽悠死的。
