If every teacher made learning this much fun, put this much effort, and was this good at teaching reading we wouldn't have such a huge literacy issue. I'd love my son to get to work with her or a teacher with this much passion. There's a lot of great teachers and God bless them. The students that get teachers like her are blessed. Us parents must put in the work at home as well. So I'm very grateful for her channel. I'm learning so many things I can do with my son to help him. These resources are priceless. Finally homework is becoming more enjoyable for my son and for me. Thanks again!!
I will be a brand new 1st grade teacher next year. I stumbled across one of your videos while searching for tips for teaching phonics to kids. Now, I am obsessed with your channel and have watched almost every single video. Because of you I feel SO much more confident heading into next year and LOVE all of your resources on TPT and your freebies. Thank you so very much! ♥️♥️♥️
This completely made my morning, Chrystal!! I am so happy to help! I am no expert, just a teacher who has been doing it for awhile and spends a lot of time researching best practices, and wants to share it with all of you! Happy you're here
@Chrystal Rector I hope all new teachers stumbled on this channel. The fact you care shows you're going to be a great teacher. As a parent I didn't realize how important 1st grade is, it's laying the foundation for reading. Good luck in all your endeavors. The students are lucky to have you.
You always have such great tips! Another fun dice game for literacy is very similar to what you have shown here, but you use sight words. I call it "Out of Luck!" You place the sight words on a numbered mat/construction paper. Number it 1-6. If done in a reading group, the teacher places words on the spaces. Students take turns reading the word which corresponds with their dice roll. If they read the word correctly, they take the card. If not, it stays in place. As the game progresses and you run out of words to fill in the spots....kids might roll a number that is empty....hence "Out of Luck!" For some reason, they get a HUGE kick out of this game and giggle when they are "Out of Luck". By the end, there is one card left and you must roll that number to end the game. Could also be played with a partner.
New to homeschooling and my girl has been struggling with reading. English is just a struggle for her. Your suggestions have been wonderful and have made a huge difference with her education. Thank you so much for all your work.
Thank you for this idea! I took your advice but created something similar for upper grade (5th) where they have pictures and have to identify the number of syllables in each word. I love how this game is easy to differentiate and change depending on what students you have in class.
I love these ideas! I teach second grade and my kiddos this year have a VERY BIG gap in their phonics and fluency skills. If you have any other fun games that I could implement with my kids, PLEASE let me know! I would.much rather have them learn and practice their skills this way that with skill and drill. Thanks again!!!
You are a natural! I Love that you share these games with us. Could you please tell me how you present while showing items/dice etc. Also, when you pushed your hands down to move the screen. Is there a specific program you use when presenting. Thank you
Hi Stephanie! I just went ahead and uploaded some sheets for these games if you are interested: www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Roll-a-Sound-Phonemic-Awareness-Game-6896044
Love these! I would like a recording sheet. If you happen to know any great videos or resources for the science of reading please share. i"m very interested in the science of reading, but I just don't know where to start.
Hi Mariann! I would see if your state has a SOR facebook group - there is a very large one for everyone that I am a member in, but if I am being blunt - there are MANY opinions in that group and it can be hard to sift through. The state groups are much smaller, have great resources, and are a wonderful starting off point! As for some books you may want to look into: Kilpatrick's Equipped for Reading Success and Louisa Moat's Speech to Print. Neither are "easy" reads, but very informative! I recommend finding a friend or small group to read and discuss with!

Hello I believe I need help. Do you have videos on teaching 3 year old spirited children? He enjoys learning and I want him to want less tablet time (screen time).
I wasn't going to watch this video but one video led to the next and I can't get enough, #beinganerd. I got to say this video was so helpful and packed with awesome ideas!! Thanks for the super easy-to-implement dice games - super fun!

You use a lot of jargon quickly without explanation. CVC? DECODE? GRAHEME? MEDIAL? DIGRAPHS? ETC. Ordinary parents would be lost. (I know because I have been a literacy teacher too.) Slow down you're moving too fast.
