As a a military person, I noticed that the mimic simulators are inside a firing range. They are there for troops to practice shooting at randomly moving mimics. There was a clear warning on the floor to not cross the line. Emily Blunt’s character was beyond the safe zone showing to the audience how the rules don’t apply to her. Those simulators are never meant to come in contact with training troops.
You clearly missed how the Omega “controlled” time. It didn’t manipulate time, it had a point in time locked failsafe mechanism that clicked in for any Alpha that died. Cage kept awaking at the exact same time & day. That was the failsafe point. If the Omega had a failsafe point for its Alpha’s, you don’t think it had one for itself? He got the Omega’s power the same way he got the Alpha’s power. Covered in its blood just before dying.
The logic behind Rita knowing she has lost her powers is she is no longer having visions. I can't recall if this is ever explicitly stated but this would explain why she knows she will not be reset if she dies.
1 thing people are often confused about at the ending of the film is that because Cage/Cruise & J Squad launched their attack several hours BEFORE the entire surprise invasion took place, & Cage got covered in the Omega's blood he was able to regain the ability to rewind time 1 day again like when he got covered in the Alpha's blood at the beginning. So, when he went back 1 day this time he ended up in the helicopter since that's where he was several hours before waking up in the military base, but because the Omega died all of the other Mimics were weakened as well, Cage was able to restart the day but the Mimics stayed weakened. Finally, if Cage ever dies again he'll restart the day since he still has the Omega's power, unless he gets a blood transfusion again then he'll lose the power for good.
It's explained in the movie why they use the suits. Rita killed hundreds of mimics on her first day in combat when wearing one. The authorities don't know that she was cheating.
Just about all the "plot holes" are on jour sides. Like for instance if he can feel that he lost the ability to reset, so did she. Also, the suits are about the weaponry and not protection. The aliens are so powerful, that a hit from them will end you either way. Modern day tanks are having the same problem with modern anti tank weapons. Walking in the suits is awkward yes but once you know how to use them, they are agile. As for being killed on the practice range, it's actually a shooting range, she and him chose to go into the shooting range for a more realistic exercise. Their "last mission" starts the night before the "final battle" and he actually kills the main Alien before the original "final battle" begins. As he and the Allen dies, he is again covered in alien "blood" so gets a reset to an earlier time. Actually the best "time travel" movie I have seen.
The only one I really agree with is "Nearly lethal decision". The first time I watched the movie I thought the same thing. But again that is a stupid decision not a plot hole. One potential explanation is that Rita has no idea what the effects of the device will be. It could take hours for it to happen for all she knows. And while I think that is still shaky ground to stand on, I do think the others mentioned are not plot holes really. 1. The invading force wants to destroy the population but not the planet. They are building up to the ultimate showdown as mentioned in the film. "they want them to throw everything the humans have at them." That way they can eliminate the threat quickly and efficiently. Keeping the planet somewhat preserved. If what the mimics did resulted in the humans using the nuclear option each time then they would change their tactics to ensure its a battle fought with soldiers on the field. 2. Suits are being processed at a fast pace whilst under attack. As has happened many times in the past, safety of the troops takes a backseat to getting the job done.3. J Squad members would have to be watching TV when he came on. Granted they could have a chance to see him but they are not the most educated bunch. I know some people who didn't know who Kamala Harris was until after a couple months into her running for president. There are people that don't watch tv or at least dont watch the news. This bunch could easily fall into that category. 4. Rita's training area is not dangerous if used correctly. It is a shooting range. You can see the safety lines on the floor. She is the Angel of Verdun. She has that entire range to herself because soldiers and the powers that be are aware that she killed over 300 mimics on her very first day in battle. That level of battle prowess would give her some leeway with the rules. 5. I think the omega has a restart point for the alphas. A time before the battle that gives them enough time to foresee any new issues and have time to alter them. If you started 1 minute before the battle each time you may not have time to mobilize your forces. Also, it doesn't seem as if the omega has total control over time just control up to a point. It's an automatic response not one that it actively makes each time. Thats why the omega is searching for Cage. It knows something is wrong but cant track the source. Cage is basically an infection that has taken over how the omega organism reacts. 6. Rita doesnt have to die to know she lost the power. Cage himself states after losing the power to restart time, that he can sense its not there anymore. They could have also tested if Rita still had the power without her actually dying in battle. The scientist could have stopped her heart, and then after a period of time restarted it. Since her controlled death didnt reset everyone's time they would know for sure she lost the power. 7. Cage has to remember what happens every single step of the way and impart that knowledge to Rita in a very short time. As far as why he is "repeating the same mistake' is because he isn't. He is troubleshooting a complicated problem with a staggering amount of variables whilst being constrained to what he has available at the time. He may have tried to stop for extra fuel at some point and been attacked by mimics. What they have now is a location where there is a helicopter giving them a massive advantage over the mimics. Now he is trying to figure out how to use that advantage and keep Rita alive. A problem he has yet to figure out when taking Rita's survival into consideration. When he does leave her out of the equation he is able to accomplish the mission. Which also means he has accepted her fate as being something he can't control. 8. From what I understood it's not the omega controlling the time jump anymore, it is Cage. He has effectively become the omega and has set the time jump backwards. And while I could see the issue with the omega not being alive after the jump back, it could simply be that the main power the omega had has been transferred and cant be in to two places at once. Therefore the very thing that makes the omega what it is, is no longer available to it. They did detect a massive power surge in Paris after the death of the omega. So Cage basically robbed the life essence of the omega away from it.
They should have had Cage give Rita some of his blood. That might have had a massive impact on the story. Maybe a sequel idea if they both have the power?
My take on the ending is when they kill the omega cruz in turn becomes the omega and just doesn't know it just like how he gained alpha ability what's to say he didn't get the omega due to the same thing and with a rumored part 2 it kinda makes sense
On the last point when Cage kills the omega he is coated with its blood inherently turning him into the omega which would explain why time resets back to the point before he was demoted. I do agree that several of the plot-holes mentioned in the video are accurate. I think the writers were trying to figure out a way to make it so that Cage would lose his power / safety-net in order to amp up the tension.
Regarding time reset or death travel, there are actually two other works, still from Japan. They are Steins;Gate and Re: Life in a Different World from Zero, but these two and Edge of Tomorrow actually have the same setting, the protagonist's consciousness travels, and the protagonist's original timeline continues to operate as a parallel universe. The world where the protagonist dies actually continues to work and does not stop. Those worlds usually have a very bad ending. But that did not stop.
Ok, plot "holes" (by chapter name) answered (my intrepretation): Post Invasion Normalcy: The aliens that landed are only a small contingent of a greater force, which means they can be held at bay (covered in the opening). I assume it's a great effort for the Omega to time jump so it only does it for important times, like when an Alpha is killed (ie: the battle has gone really badly), rather than from having lost a few minions. Also, if you're a time-jumping, intergalactic alien race, I can appreciate your motivation to conquer and devour everything would soften over time. Or maybe they don't reproduce that fast and there just isn't that many of them. Silly Suits: lack of armour is a big downside, but armour = weight, and the suits are already short-lived power wise. More weight would only reduce that further. And, we're talking about battle suits that have only been invented in the last couple of years. Finally (and most importantly), because Hollywood. The suits look cool, function comes second. Cage Who: I'm sure there are lots of grunts out there in real life who don't recognise armed forces spoke-persons, why would it be any different here? And Cage would have over-inflated his importance to try to talk his way out of a situation he hasn't yet accepted (aka the 'denial phase'). Deadly Training: Rita would be psychologically messed-up after her experience, so hanging out in a room of self-deletion devices isn't that odd. More importantly, she's got to keep up the 'bad-ass' persona, otherwise she's got to explain going from stud to dud (and likely end up back in a psycho-ward as a result). Little Too Loopy: The Omega controls time biologically, not scientifically. The Omega doesn't have perfect control, hence why it's a "random" point - kind of like how you can only jump so far. With practice you can learn to jump further, but ultimately you're physically limited to a set distance. These jumps are also an automatic response, rather than conscious. Rita's Lost Power: She can feel the power missing (maybe her toes don't tingle anymore?). When you consider it's only a tiny amount of Alpha bloody in the body, it doesn't take much to disturb it. Cage covers this point when he says "I can feel it, I don't have the power anymore". Repeated Stupid Mistakes: We question why they do "stupid" things, forgetting that they are being chased by giant, fast moving killing machines. These are choices per se, rather the only option. They find a car that has low fuel, but it's a bit hard to stop at a gas station while the spinney-killer-alien-thingies are chasing you. Nearly Lethal Decision: They don't know how the device will work - or if he will lose the time-loop ability (remembering he's only got a tiny amount of the Alpha blood, will it get all used up...?). Not using it until they are in a safe would seem the smarter decision, for the initial plan anyway. Also, with unlimited resets, why not play this scenario through to have a better go next time? (only they crash and lose the reset in the process). Excessively Happy Ending: Firstly, gotta have a happy ending. Secondly, going back to "Little Too Loopy", the Omega's response is biological, not scientific. As it's killed it 'jumps' a bit further than it normally does. Life threatening situation making it try a bit harder and all that. Thems are my thoughts anyway. Cool movie, glad we're still talking about it. Thanks for the video.
I’m surprised this video doesn’t address this but the movie never explains what the projectiles the mimics use to shoot down aircraft are. On the ground they only kill people physically with their bodies - whether they are shooting out parts of themselves or repurposing human rockets/whatever it makes no sense why they wouldn’t use the same projectiles in ground combat.
The slow advancement of mimics through Europe might be explained by their losses. It is not like they are impossible to kill. Britain was not yet invaded, that's why their utilities are still working. There are few shots indicating refugees being taken care of. But having open pubs would be indeed not very likely.
It’s not so difficult. This movie, like WWZ, uses a classic plot device- the most vicious weapon simultaneously camoflages an ultimate flaw. Reset is auto; reset point is auto 24 hrs from alpha’s first death regardless of that alpha’s subsequent death(s). Omega can’t change it’s nature, can only remove Cage’s connection. If there is a hole, the Mimics should have held Cage as a well-fed captive.
The biggest dumb thing was that in all the times Tom Cruise greeted Emily Blunt in her yoga arm balance, he NEVER ONCE asked "What's up, dawg?" to lead into a hilarious (for yoga practitioners) visual gag.
Yall need to read the book it was based on, All you need is Kill. Much more interesting story, and i love the movie but lots of really cool and important plot points are glazed over or left out.
I think the movie cut the story too much that's why it's so bland and confusing, they simply too much focused on the action which where they think the "money" is
I think it was kinda explained that humans have a kind of effect mixing with this hive mind alien, like they can take the power and use it separate from the omega but still connected to it (think of it like you use someone's phone but they have security on it so they know when you use it, they just can't stop you)..... the final scene where he is dying and gets the omegas huge dosage of blood made him kick start the ability one last time (use the phone before the battery died) to reset the day. With the huge dosage of omega blood, he was able to reset even further back
I always thought the whole premises of edge of tomorrow was stupid and it was fairly entertaining but in reality it's just another showcasing of the ego known as Tom Cruise
What do you think is the biggest flaw in Edge of Tomorrow?
Whatever, it's a brilliant movie regardless!
Edge of Tomorrow is so underrated
Nah, anyone I've ever talked to about this movie love it.

One of my favorite movies. It was so much fun it didn’t need to be plausible.

Feel like someone was reaching with this video.
Extremely reaching
I always saw "Edge of Tomorrow" as a "Tom Cruise/Military" version of "Bill Murray's Groundhog Day"...
But damn it is an excellent film!
Everybody compares it to Groundhog Day; that's not original. But Source Code would be a better comparison.
I suspend my disbelief quite a bit to enjoy a lot of movies. I have absolutely no problem doing it to enjoy this one.

After a decade I finally got how the loop works with the Alpha and Omega mimic😅

Just shows that people take some things way to seriously. It's a fun forget yourself just enjoy film. Someone at Looper needs to lighten up
most of this points are true! but i can sertainly say : this is one of the best movies i ever saw!!!
Love this movie. Tom Cruise dies in like...100 different ways. That's dedication!
It’s a great flick!
It's Hollywood, dude.
Mind. Blown.
I love this movie i hope too see more like a part 2
Damn rad film that

Great movie!
Hwre we go again with EOT vids
Love this channel ❤
EWW already beat you to this yearrrrs ago 😅
Dude, you are nitpicking. Picking out flaws on the Mona Lisa doesn't make you smart or cool, just an a-hole.
Very confusing movie. It's bad. Messy, incoherent. Not recommending. Based on clip. Thanks
I always thought the whole premises of edge of tomorrow was stupid and it was fairly entertaining but in reality it's just another showcasing of the ego known as Tom Cruise
What a price of shixx video
Thanks for nothing
