  • Egg Mobile Build - Have We Designed the Perfect Eggmobile?
    When we moved to our new farm we didn't bring our egg mobile with us. So its time to build our 3rd eggmobile and this design is a little different from designs of previous mobile hen houses.
    Today we are showing off our latest mobile egg house creation and we call it Eggmobile 3.0. This is a 10x14 structure built on an old trailer frame that we found on marketplace. It was constructed of locally sourced materials including local lumber and scrap from a barn that we tore down about a week ago.
    This is similar to Joel Salatin's Egg mobile and Pete from Just a Few Acres Farm design. In short, this may be the perfect egg mobile design (so far).

    It was so good to see you Saundra!!! I miss y'all fussin and messin at each other! Chuck, I completely understand what you are saying about this time of year being so busy. However, I would highly recommend that you take 30 days to post a video every day. That doesn't mean you have to film one every day, just film a few different things and break them up into different days to post. It will really help increase your subscribers quickly!!

    Awesome y’all! Spring time is definitely a busy time all the way around here for us too. I run a full time landscape business which is naturally busy in the spring then everything on our farm is wide open as well from new chicks coming in to gardens going in it’s always something for sure. Me an my wife are the same way she goes her way and I go mine. We each have our jobs to do and we get it done. Keep up the good work y’all !

    Chuck & Sondra, I always enjoy your videos. I too just moved from Pa. to KY. to start anew kind of like you guys. It's a challenge to know how much product to produce in a certain time span. You get irregular supply or alot of freezers full of product. In your egg tractor are the slats in the floor narrow enough to keep out predators yet possible for chickens to grab onto &roost? Keep on taking things to the next level!! Peace

    What is the spacing for the slatted flooring? And thanks for finally letting her grace a video . 🤪

    That looks great! Nice work. Do you worry about raccoons or opossums reaching up through the floor and grabbing the chickens' feet?

    Sun-activated doors is a must, worth every penny spent on them.
    Why not use gravity-egg delivery to the outside? No poop on the eggs if they gravity drop to an outside collector. Also, you don't have to move those restriction bars on the boxes twice a day.
    What am I missing?

    Your right about used tin I put some on 1 of my shops because the road roofing always leaks but the used tin still leaks just as bad waist of time using old tin

    Hi chuck. I’m looking to build a bigger and better egg mobile. Is 3.0 working out like you hoped? Would you make any changes? Enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work. Terry in Nebraska.

    Good design. Have you seen Richard Perkins design for a set of automated nest boxes. Perkins is a British farmer in Sweden who does very creative things like you do. Check it out at his TH-cam site under the title Automate Your Egg Mobile.

    is there wire up top between the rafters to keep the coons out?

    • @Beps128
      @Beps128 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I noticed that space too and was concerned about coons and opposums. Snakes too...

    • @drewhillfarms
      @drewhillfarms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jamie said that there’s chicken wire and you can see it when they show you around inside.

    • @philsnider00
      @philsnider00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drewhillfarms That wire is only the underside of the rafters not between the rafters and the steel roof. It would be an annoying job to do it but it should probably be there

    Had a thought about moving chickens. Could you build a rectangular box about the same size of the feeders 18" wide 2ft high 6 foot long with a lid on top to put the feed in. . Put hole in side of the brooder so the birds can run in and out of rectangular box. Put feeders in the box to train them to go in and out of the box. Put a handle on the brooder box like the feeders That way when you are ready to move them to the field they are already in a crate ready to move. Have a small trailer the same height of the rectangular box so you just slide the box on the trailer.

    Will hay or something else go on the floor? Wondering how the chickens feet will do with the spacing. Awesome video, thanks for sharing watch many of them

    • @swamp-yankee
      @swamp-yankee 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do fine with slats. The point is not to bed them. Better to have the manure drop onto the field.
