Installing Zerk Grease Fitting On Stabilizer Bar Link Testing & Lubrication Hyundai Santa Fe 01-06
A little trick is to use a magnet on the drill bits and tap so you can catch all the shavings, I would not blow the shavings around incase you drive them down into the ball.
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. All the best.
@@richardlloydusa what is the function of the screw on top of the connecting rod
Excellent video, truly enjoyed it. Working on front end suspension and steering replacement on a 1977 Datsun 620 and this video will help me on my current project, thanks!!
You're most welcome. I'm glad and very happy to know that I could help you. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
My Moogs come drilled already. Looks like some clear blue grease in there too. Installing the 90° zerks that came with it anyway.
oh I see someone suggested magnet to catch shavings.........good idea too
Magnet and or vacuum would help. Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
I just had new tie rods installed and the driver side has no fitting your video really helped me thanks
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.
hello master ! do the shop buy back the old cores after we replaced these ? Thanks.
I would have to say, it depends on the supplier, mine did not. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
It's Criminal that ball joints don't come with grease fittings. Nice fix..
Your drill press makes quarter turns. Is that a feature or are you just bumping the switch.?
Thanks. Got some new moog ball joints to do this to.
why don't you just use self tapping zerks and skip the tapping process?
It's certainly a good option. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the valuable feedback. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
when you drilled the hole looked like some metal might have fallen in the hole, one method to avoid that is put some grease on the drill, the metal shavings stick to the drill....apparentlly...... I've never triked using grease haven't had the need, but saw the tip on a youtube vid ( long time ago)
Thank you so much for commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Just install some and they came with the zerks install already
Richard: it's a great thing to be able to lubricate the suspension components but you have to ask yourself, they are designed to last for many miles without the added zerk fittings. The amount of work you have done versus just replacing suspension parts when they go bad. Unless you plan on keeping the car for a very long time and lots of miles, if it were me I just opt for replacing the suspension link bar when it's needed! I think you covered all the basis if you want to do this. Again this is a modification, so you void any warranties and I am not so sure, but you might have taken the manufacture off the "hook" when it comes to any liabilities, if they should come up.
I understand your point. I intend to keep the vehicle for a while. I understand the components are cheap to replace but if I can make them last longer for a few dollars I see it as worth it. BTW did you see the pitiful amount of grease in the ball joint to start with? They certainly don't over do it on lubrication. As far as modifying the links and having them fail I am not concerned because I am not planning on (nor do I think it's right to) go after the manufacturer after I modified the part. Another plus about putting the grease fittings on the part is that you will be looking at them on a regular basis (every oil change) so you should spot any excessive play/wear prior to the part failing. Otherwise you would be using it until it wore enough that you noticed it while driving at which point I would say you are dangerously close to a catastrophic failure. Thanks for your comments and feedback I appreciate both.
+Richard Lloyd We`ve had this discussion before, Here in England a few yrs back we had big problems with cheap foreign suspension parts, ball joints were just falling apart and causing serious crashes, the government banned these import parts, unless the were tested and quality assured to British Standards, so what you`re doing is not really a problem, as long as the part is good quality.
Agreed. These are AC-Delco links and are manufactured in Taiwan (Free China). They look and feel very solid but only time will tell. Most new suspension parts "look" solid but with metal you can only tell how good it is after it's been stressed for a while. I think I will cut the old ball joints on the links in half to see what the internals are made of and what kind of wear they have. Ought to be interesting. I will be mounting these today. Should be fairly straight forward. I have a new ball joint separator that I am itching to test that looks very promising. I still have the lower control arm bushings to do as well. I bought a 12 ton hydraulic press for that job for under $200! (some assembly required). I tried replace the OEM bushings with the ball joint press, I managed to remove the originals but damaged the first two new ones I mounted because it is not the proper tool for the job and I could not properly align the bushing as I pressed them in and I damaged the rubber on the new ones. More to come. Thanks
good luck with it. this is one of the first video's I have seen where grease fittings were added. One question, sometimes you can buy new ball joints and suspension parts with the zerk fittings installed on aftermarket parts. Have you explored this? would save a lot of work!
I have seen that you can buy them with them fitted but they cost three times more than these do. The parts to do the job on these links cost about $2.00 so I saved a ton of money doing it myself. If I could buy them with the fittings for a reasonable price I would certainly go that route. Thanks.
The video of fitting these on the car is not working, i got a reminder but it`s not on yt.
That's strange because the above video is working for me. Try it again. Thanks.
25 meant 🤔
good job
You are most welcome. Thank you for watching, commenting and the kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.
Zerk fittings are so stupid. If they worked the OEM manufacturers would put them there. If there isn't enough grease then you have a bad link. If you're losing grease then you have a bad rubber and it should be changed anyways.
Thank you so much for commenting and watching. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
