Before Kendo I was suicidal, couldn't control my anger, couldn't control my outward emotions, I was lazy, I couldn't accept my flaws, couldn't take the blame for anything, I flunked out of college, I was unemployed, and my life was just awful. I had no self control and no self respect. Now, after almost a year, I can say I am very very very far from perfect, but I've gotten my life together, I have an okay job, I have an okay mindset, It's still somewhat hard for me to accept my flaws and blame, but I'm better at it. I can actually control my outward emotions, I can control my impulses, and I can correct myself when I've accepted I've done something wrong. Most of the time anyway. I actually am going back to college now and I have a plan to become an english teacher in Japan through the JET program after I graduate. That's where I'll study kendo from then until whenever I feel like leaving Japan. But I will never put this down. It has made a bigger impact on my life than music, which is something I am still almost constantly involved with in some way. Kendo has gotten me back on track and taught me a better way to live. Like I said, I'm very very far from perfect, but I am nowhere near what I used to be.

Good for you. I was in the same situation you were in! I've been living in Japan for four years now. Best decision I've ever made! In that time I got married, learned Kendo, and found a job that I love. In the entire time here, I've been practicing Kendo at the Junior high school I teach at, and at a dojo on weekends. I am now 2dan.
Best advice I can give is to study Japanese hard!!!! Everyday!!!!Kendo practice isn't taught in English in Japan. When applying for jobs, be sure to tell the employer that you study Kendo and want to be placed in a school that has a Kendo team.

as a junior highschool student that just started after graduating elementary, i think alot has changed for me,
i was not like i was immature or something worse before, but i was weak, weird, and feminine for a boy, and i was confused to who i really am.
after just even 4 months i think i found who i am, and who i was supposed to be.
i don’t think i’ve grown, but i think i’ve changed.

My kendo journey
I started practicing kendo in june 2022
Before kendo i was a 18 years old skinny 110lb dude after 3 months of practicing kendo i knew my body can't keep up with kendo. I started to train at a gym near me
There is a 16 years old senpai i always admire.i always go and ask what i am doing wrong at the end of every kendo practice
Now i(20) weight 140lb and almost 2 years into kendo and i know i become stronger,become more cool-headed than my past self
I would like to thanks my two senseis and my senpai,i see improvements in both my kendo and my body because of them
I hope to continue my practice in kendo until my last breath and become one of the best kendoka in my country
