People living their Hollywood dreams are being forced to make tough decisions as industry jobs leave California. Suzanne Marques talks to people affected by the Hollywood downturn.
Social media is spreading the wealthy around, instead of a handful of acter/actresses being paid millions for nothing. I am glad to see this positive side of social media.
@@weho_brian Hollywood money will never leave because of the prime real estate due to the coast, and weather. Duh! Laughable to compare Michigan to California.
Its funny. Their arrogance has evaporated. This is nothing. Wait till AI comes in and a kid in his parents basement can script a movie, do the entire movie just on his laptop, and it will be a blockbuster.
Shooting is now done in Canada, the UK, Hungary, Australia/New Zealand, and South Africa as a way to cut costs. Hell, the marvel movies are all shot on a sound stage in Georgia and the special effects contracted out overseas. Avatar is another example. Shot in New Zealand. Godzilla Minus One was made for less than 10 million. The latest Mission Impossible is filming in South Africa due to soaring budget costs. There is this growing trend lately in Hollywood, if its a big name asking, the studios have not been able to say "no'.
I get what they’re going through… 20 years ago the recording industry took a nosedive because it moved from recording on tape to recording on disc (hard drives and now SSDs) so the perceived need for technical support staff dramatically decreased. Budgets for recorded projects were also decreasing, and since then it’s only gotten worse for several reasons. Independent filmmaking is really where it’s at now, but with tighter (and smaller) budgets, the crews are stripped down and lean. Hollywood films have nearly always been made with bloated budgets. Adjusting to the changing times is the only way for industries to survive. Going on strike for higher wages in a shrinking industry only goes to show how foolish the unions have become. In the same way that the $20/hr fast food wage killed a ton of jobs, so will another strike by yet another outmoded union. SMH….
A.I. will replace so many non productive jobs. People might have to learn how to actually work to get paid. A.I. can easily replace most of these people.
obviously you've never had mayo and hot dogs because it's actually an amazing combination. in the Netherlands it's extraordinarily common. Ketchup and Mayo is better than ketchup alone.
@@sarcasticnews1195 obviously you're a person with an obscure palate . Wait, you're from the Netherlands? Do a lot of drugs there? Sounds like it if you think mayo on hotdogs is actually an "amazing" combination.
If you move out of California you are a coward. Vote out the corrupt governors and the other people that are corrupt and vote out people that are doing nothing about crime and homeless and vote for people that will make California great again when people move out of California nothing will change so vote for people that will help solve crimes and homeless people
Probably, but they'll likely still be too expensive for ordinary people and purchased by investors to lease. The fallout of losing the big businesses that produce (in Hollywood that's entertainment, tech, and Elon Musks ventures) equates to more poverty for everyone whose source of income is connected to these fields generating a product that creates income. Like she said, for examples sake, if they go, that means the catering company that provides food to sets shooting just lost their biggest client. And when the catering company hurts their staff gets cut and the company that provides food and material for the caterer takes a hit and so on. The domino will affect everyone. When there are hoards of people making less money that means they don't have money to spend on everything in the local economy (shopping, dining, concerts, cars, you name it.) I grew up in the rust belt. This is exactly how once prosperous places end up turning into run down wastelands.
It isn't cyclical. You're completely delusional and ignoring all the technological, demographic, and societal factors factors that contributed to the downturn.
why should a film be provided with tax facilities? If you want to make a film and you don't have the money, don't make it, simple. why should actors get millions and crew peanuts? The TV and film industries have shot themselves in the foot by paying actors and actresses far too high wages? It is normal for actors to earn more, but now their wages are exaggerated
@@sarcasticnews1195 you are right in a sense, but they have chosen the "profession" of acting, this is like someone who chooses to become a painter, most painters earn almost nothing. It's their choice. Why do I have to pay via tax money for a film that I don't want to see or will never see? Working in the culture sector is the choice of those who practice culture, whether it is film, music, theater or art, it does not matter, if you want to create something you have to invest in it yourself and/or with the people who are interested in it.
This article is very old news and the commentators are acting so concerned. Hlwd has been leaving for a bit now but, we all can THANK... Gavin Newsom. Do the math.
Why is this woman 2nd camera assistant for 15 years? Wtf? I was doing that job while in film school. Is she too incompetent to advance any further? I don't feel sorry for someone with zero ambition.
Let’s not forget to also blame the big movie studios that just don’t care about anything except for their profits and don’t give a crap about anyone else

California isn't the place anymore 😢
Who cares? The TH-camrs have replaced the Hollywood industry in Los Angeles now.
good point
and when Hollywood money runs out, what will prevent Los Angeles from becoming the next Detroit ?
