- This wood lathe project was inspired by the waterfront. In this woodturning video I am woodturning a cherry log into a vase inspired by my time at the waterfront. This turned out to be more work than I was expecting. I turned part of this lathe project and came back the next morning to find the wood had cracked overnight. So I had some repair work to do on this woodturning project.
I hope you enjoy/enjoyed this new woodturning video.

Really like the addition of the jute. Gives the vase a whole different feel. Well done n
Thank you Doug!
I wasn't sure how it would look but I'm happy with it.
Thanks for watching!
That is a pretty cool vase. The twine was a great detail on that piece.
Thank you John!
It turned out better then I thought. I'm pretty happy with it.

Nicely done piece, love the rough twine.

VERY Nice...! The twine sets it off.. Cherry is cracky, but it still looks great.
Thank you Wilbur!
Ya, I've turned other cherry that wasn't to bad. This is darker wood so not sure what kind of cherry this is. I have more from the same log. We'll see if it cracks too. I'm happy with it. I think it turned out pretty good.
Thanks for watching!
...love the nautical theme...the shape and finish look great...and the twine?...awesome!
Very well done, Rus...👍...now, take it aweigh...😉

I was going for nautical but it kinda looks tropical or antique.

That turned out very nice. The jute cord accent really looks nice.

It came out a lot better than what I imagined in my head. I think the dark wood made the difference.

What tool are you using to shape this project? You do a very nice job using it, thanks
It's a 1/2 inch bowl gouge.
Lovely piece. Please tell me about the brown filler and liquid used to fill the crack, do you know if available in UK? Thank you for sharing 😊
Used coffee grounds and thin ca glue. I think you drink coffee over there.😁
@@RcWoodturning would never of thought of using coffee. Decafe or regular 😉 😀😃🙂
@@petewarne5138 If you use regular you might have more tool marks. Depends how jittery you get with coffee.😜
I would love to start wood turning but what i would like to know, how much could it cost to start with the basic set up in the uk, with all the tools and equipment?
I don't know prices in the UK. In the US you could get a decent start for around 500.00.
@@RcWoodturning Thank you for your quick reply. oh wow, that is a good price. I had a quick look for the tools and equipment from the UK and it starts at around £1,500, not sure what that is in $ but it looks like the UK is so much more expensive, not that I'm surprised really. 👍👍
Stick fast and coffee grounds?
Yes
@RcWoodturning thanks
May I ask what you are using for your finisher?
Friction polish. I mix it myself.
Thanks much. Please keep up the great work.
where do you get your fast stick glue?
I've been getting it at a local woodturning store.
What was that u used to fill cracks in with
Used dried out coffee grounds.
