  • Dementia will affect 1 in 3 of us.
This is the story of Brian, a man who lived with dementia in Somerset. It is estimated Somerset have over 9,000 people living with dementia. This is sadly expected to double by 2035.
With the great work of our carers, like Vickie, we are able to give those who live with dementia, a life they may never of had. In this video, Vickie goes into detail on how they creatively applied recent training to help Brian. He had no friends and no family contact, which left Brian rather isolated. Through old music such as "You'll never walk alone" he began singing along, and opening up about his love for @LiverpoolFC
Vickie was able to watch old games, new highlights and keep him updated on his beloved football club. Brian soon elaborated upon his love for trains and more specifically Steam Trains, a reason we believe he moved to Somerset. Vickie and her colleagues were able to take him on one last adventure, as they boarded the West Somerset Railway.
We are honoured to have people like Vickie working in Somerset, and are inspired by their brilliant work and creativity, Thank you

The best video Somerset Council has ever made. You are a beautiful sole and so glad there are people like you and Hannah that care so much. RIP Brian
