Upgrading units at lower level doesn't eat much resources but the amount of resources needed ti upgrade units will skyrocket insanely. Yes, you are forced to only focus on one nation only. This is still somewhat understandable to an extent. The devs keep releasing legendary units that is almost difficult to get and only available on special limited time banners. It costs contracts which you can buy from "special" deals which either costs Gold tokens (another special currenty) at an overpriced price OR get them from events that is outright cashgrab or for whales only. That's not all, they also gives general separate levels too. When a general reach lv 10, they give massive buffs to your armies. "I think this is one of the longest serving divisions, yeah look 15k casualties!" meanwhile my US motorized divisions will often go up as high as 40-50k after two world wars lol
Best spotting ship against AI is definitely the cruiser submarine hull with spotter planes and radar, I've tested it numerous times, it is worth getting a licence from japan/germany/france/USA (and some other, I forgot) to spot AI navies and basically be invisible. Cruisers get picked up easily and sunk, even when they are fast and set to do not engage. Cruiser subs are also super cheap to make comparatively. I almost wonder if the player here originally had the grand battleplan expert, then attempted to switch to mobile warfare. That would explain why the mobile warfare expert was set, as well as why their tank template was so bad (they would have seen the left side bonuses of mobile warfare and assumed more motorized was the solution)
When you see bitt3rsteel in your reddit comment asking for the save file and then in his video he starts to roast your build. (No hate love your videos
As I've been doing the Italian achievements recently this video both hits close to home when I first played Italy and pains me after I've learned how to play Italy
How effective are Supply Planes for supply dead zones? I've been wanting to experiment with them, but I keep forgetting to build them in every run. Breaking through Left-Russia as Austria-Hungary was a pain in the run to Baku, then I had to run all the way to China to deal with both Nationalist and a large Communist China, lost so much equipment.
So I know I'm nearly a year late, but I have a question. During the Libya push at 26:50 you talk about how the distance between the supply hubs is so vast that it's impossible to sustain a fight inbetween them, but what about building a port near the front line to serve as a supply hub? Was it not suited for the specific circumstances of the video or is it just a bad idea in general?
18:30 using cannons instead of heavy mgs to shoot down fighters is just not worth it. Cannon's are only meant to shoot down heavy strat bomber as they are more expensive, and weigh more than heavy mgs
maybe you should create another series called disaster setups. it's not as entertaining when you know this isn't a real disaster that someone got themselves into.
Those infantry templates are actually not that bad they are 25 combat width which is perfect for mountains only complaint is they should have 3 artillery instead of just one.
@@Bitt3rSteel Not really. If you have that much artillery you're going to be absolutely demolishing enemy divisions that have no armor (so any infantry division you face). If you are doing that much damage to enemy divisions they never have the chance to do much damage in return. The issue is more that you didn't have control of Italy from the outset so you couldn't prioritize artillery production to that degree. That much soft attack will leave enemy infantry divisions with extremely low strength. I know this because it's one of the main ways to out attrition the Soviet Union by destroying their equipment faster than they can build it as a smaller nation. Just sit on mountain/river line, let the AI attack, and have reserve divisions that you can throw in after you bait the attack. It's easy money.
@@xeon39688 Eh, I prefer 21 width divisions, then 31, then 41 (if possible). The minor malus to going slightly over combat width is vastly outweighed by the increased capability you can add to a division. So I'll usually build something like a 7inf/2art/1AA if I don't have tungsten or a 7inf/2art/1AT with aa support if I have the tungsten necessary for that production. Once you get later into the game where you can support higher width divisions both industrially and from a supply standpoint, I'll upgrade it to 31 width or 41 width.
As a new HOI player, I also learned the hard way when playing Italy. GUARD YOUR PORTS! I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with the Royal Navy though, that doomstack that they send in there is brutal
If you want to fight the Royal Navy: 1) Get dockyards early. 2) Use mines and only fine in mined areas. 3) Wait until France caps so you don't fight the whole French Navy as well. 4) Fight in regions where you have air superiority. 5) Rush the 1939 targeting tech and refit your cruisers and battleships with those. 6) Observe your battles and run away if needed 5)
It's tied to specific email addresses, I'd recommend checking the FAQ online. I can't assign it manually, it's all automated through Discord and TH-cam
For the North Africa section is it a bad idea to put ports in for supply hubs? I know you then have to defend them but it's something I do just to get some supply building a level 2ish port so I can have supply? I'm fairly new to the game so I don't know if there's some other issue with it.
bittersteel just a quick question what CPU do you use? ive been running hoi 4 at 20 fps 5 speed with a 7 2700X and was wondering if im doing something wrong or is my cpu just bad
I started playing this year, with the 6 month sub on the DLC. Have over 250h in, and starting to grasp the basics. Happily going lucky mostly. I haz question for the all might Emperor The Bitter Belgian and/or most likely his legion. What's are the pro's and cons to going through a civil war opposed to having a referendum?
I wish there were bookmarks in the game that let you play Vichy France or one of the Italian puppet countries without having to deliberately lose. They're not the funnest countries to play, but it's still unique content that's not easily accessible.
That used to be a thing in earlier Paradox games but the issue with it is that they're really hard to keep up to date as they'd need to be manually adjusted for patches and DLCs which is a lot of extra work. So what you'd end up with is just that most bookmarks would just not be worked on and behave as if they're several versions behind the main bookmarks.
@@zombieguyproducion I'm a Paradox oldfriend so I'm well aware of that, but HOI4 seems very well suited to a small handful of bookmarks. 36, 39, 41, and maybe 44 for all the Gotterdammerung CBT enjoyers.
@@KAPTAINmORGANnWo4eva At the same time, everytime there is a new FT that means they have to manually fill in each country to have done specific focuses up to that date, also stuff like when the railways were introduced would have been a nightmare to update into all the different bookmarks. The main reason why Paradox completely abandoned that approach is because there is simply not enough people playing the bookmarks to justify all that extra work. Hell, how many of the campaigns today are started in the 1939 bookmark? 5%? Mods are probably the best solution for that, even though unfortunately there are no good late war mod that's even remotely up to date :(
24:44 i feel like u couldve just not done the fire control on this design because it only helps light, hard and AA attack while ur DD only really had depth charges and torpedos, it makes the DD significantly more expensive for minimal bonuses
@@Bitt3rSteel just to be clear, I was referring to you having problems in north Africa when you said that there was too much of a distance between supply hubs. By that time you had naval supremacy in the area, if I remember correctly. But even if you didn't, I don't think AI would be fast enough to capitalise on you having built the port(s). I'm not even sure if they acknowledge that there is a new port created so they could potentially naval invade it. Though the video is great, love to see those disasters saves 👍
I wish I had disasters to send but I can't in good faith do that every time I play I either succeed or fail so early on that its not worth saving I genuinely don't know how people can get themselves in situations like this

"I will only take the (Soviet) ships."
This is like poetry. After WWII, the Soviets only took Italy's ships too.
Italy is on life support (owns 70% of Italy's industry)
maybe you should create another series called disaster setups. it's not as entertaining when you know this isn't a real disaster that someone got themselves into.
i watch alot of hoi4 youtubers but you are the ones content that i enjoy the most
You can just build a port once your supply runs out. Works especially well in North Africa as the frontlines are near the coast.
field marshall seyoum mengesha of the Italian social republic.
Wdym "disaster save", this is Italy every game!
you expect better from a human player!
Yeah, it’s always a disaster
Plot twist: the player was actually Germany, Italy was an AI.
italy was always on life support. always.
A good idea might have been to add maintanace compaines when you were killing the naval invasion, for that equipmet capture ratio...maybe.
31:40 I have to admit, for a godless “belgian” that was pretty non-bad
imagine having a disaster so bad dat bitt3rsteel basically calls u a bot 💀
Those infantry templates are actually not that bad they are 25 combat width which is perfect for mountains only complaint is they should have 3 artillery instead of just one.
Artillery gets pretty costly if you use it all over the line like that
@@Bitt3rSteel Not really.
@@Gustav_Kurigajust make all divisions 9inf 3arty with support companies
@@xeon39688 Eh, I prefer 21 width divisions, then 31, then 41 (if possible). The minor malus to going slightly over combat width is vastly outweighed by the increased capability you can add to a division. So I'll usually build something like a 7inf/2art/1AA if I don't have tungsten or a 7inf/2art/1AT with aa support if I have the tungsten necessary for that production.
Once you get later into the game where you can support higher width divisions both industrially and from a supply standpoint, I'll upgrade it to 31 width or 41 width.
Imagine being a die-hard fascist Italian and you get word that your field marshal is a member of the Ethiopian royal family.
As a new HOI player, I also learned the hard way when playing Italy. GUARD YOUR PORTS! I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with the Royal Navy though, that doomstack that they send in there is brutal
If you want to fight the Royal Navy:
1) Get dockyards early.
2) Use mines and only fine in mined areas.
3) Wait until France caps so you don't fight the whole French Navy as well.
4) Fight in regions where you have air superiority.
5) Rush the 1939 targeting tech and refit your cruisers and battleships with those.
6) Observe your battles and run away if needed
5)
What a nice pronunciation of بنغازي 26:23
The infantry would be 25w because 25w fits perfectly into mountains 3 times.
Also not taking adaptable is such a huge mistake.
Superior Firepower is such a noob trap.
It has empirically the best collection of stats that will apply in most circumstances. It's not the best at anything , but is good at everything.
@@Bitt3rSteel can I send you a decent desaster save?
@@darthrevan5200 yeah, sure
You don't even need improved or advanced in MP either.
But I #want# cooler looking tanks
in some cases you can build ports to function like supply hubs, they're way cheaper, e.g. in Libya
Video starts at 2:53
Im a channel member and dont have the discord link.
also, do you do disaster saves from mods? I only play Kaiserredux at this point
It's tied to specific email addresses, I'd recommend checking the FAQ online. I can't assign it manually, it's all automated through Discord and TH-cam
@@Bitt3rSteel ah thanks!
7:00 I'm pretty sure those are the default division, I don't think it's a setup.
The fact this guy went grand battleplan and had Messe as his theorist instead of Graziani made me irationally angry
The medal ceremony commentary was the best
Why do I smile when I see you uploaded a video?
the sponsor game is basiclly company of Heroes in another Form and i played it like a 1 year ago already.
Do I need any other dlc other than no step back for op Poland?
It is very like Mussolini to try to expand the Roman Air Academies when he has no air force... and no Rome.
Pro CW: it's fast, if you win
Con CW: it can be a mess if you don't set it up right and end up wasting a ton of time
@@Bitt3rSteel It's really that simple? Alright, thanks a bunch!!
@@KevinHwoarang depending on the country, you might lose some generals and/or advisors as well
@@Bitt3rSteel You get those in the decisions right? Like with Bulgaria you get those Tsar loyalists?
@@KevinHwoarang it's not always clear, but as an example as Finland you lose Mannerheim if you do a civil war
5%? Mods are probably the best solution for that, even though unfortunately there are no good late war mod that's even remotely up to date :(
I should send in my PRC save i got going for me, managed to get the northern warlords and am almost at the yellow river against japan
24:44 i feel like u couldve just not done the fire control on this design because it only helps light, hard and AA attack while ur DD only really had depth charges and torpedos, it makes the DD significantly more expensive for minimal bonuses
You'd be right
can we get a full video (mean of the hole gameplay, not cut) of a saves games, i woud love to what you do
That's an absurd amount of footage tbh
so great when i play as i wacht, was only an ide...
ps. love what you do, hoi4 is one of my top 5 games
@@Bitt3rSteel
*reads italian words with beautiful pronunciation* "I dont know how to pronounce that"
how do you send in games i play hoi4 a lot but am really really bad at attacking?
Whats the game name he says at 33:14?
You seem to forget that you can build ports in ares with law supply and they will provide great help
And I'd then have to guard those ports....
Love your Channel keep it up
33:31 Oh come on. We all know Crimea is rightful Genoan clay.
I wish I had disasters to send but I can't in good faith do that
every time I play I either succeed or fail so early on that its not worth saving
I genuinely don't know how people can get themselves in situations like this
Yummy delicious new video! Thanks bitt! ❤
I LOVE ITALY and grew up there.
Sadly, that pocket if 70 divisions were your brothers
