  • In this video, I'll be talking about all the clubs that you should be a part of at MIT, Manipal.
    A very good way to fully utilise your college to its full potential is to take part in clubs and societies. Every college has them at different scales and grandeur. There's are numerous benefits to bring active in a club. 1. You get to work on group projects with so many different kinds of people 2. You get to connect with seniors, who can further down the line be very important for referrals because your seniors generally do have more experience than you in a lot of fields and they'll be able to somewhat guide you and second, it's always good to network with people.and 3. Have a potential shot at having a leadership position in any given club. That is in turn good in numerous ways. First, great addition on your resume, most people are looking to get a job or grad school, so either way, it ups your application and second, you learn the essentials about managing people, which is vital because as you climb up higher in the corporate ladder, you will be managerial responsibilities so it gives you and early taste of that and lastly, it's obviously an amazing experience that you've had the privilege to we'll, experience.
    Now specifically at MIT, Manipal are two kind of societies you can join, clubs and Student projectsrence between clubs and student projects. A lot of newcomers use these words interchangably which is quite frankly wrong. I did that too when I was a fresher but soon got the difference.
    - A club, mostly, does not work on something physical whereas a student project works on a physical machine. Let me explain that further. A student project is often building something, like ThrustMIT builds a rocket, Formula Manipal builds a car, Mars Rovers Manipal builds a rover and Manas builds a car driven automatically by AI. They then compete in international competitions with their, whatever they have built, and that's that. They spend most of their time working on the model, designing prototypes and testing their finished machine. A club however is a community, that's the best word I have to describe it. There will be seminars and sessions held related to what the club is about. If let's say it's a coding club, they'll organise workshops and hackathons and guide students in specific fields.
    - There are about 75 clubs in total, 35 being technical, quote unquote and the rest being “non-technical”.
    - 1 question, can you take part in clubs which don't specialize in your major? Let's say if I am a mechanical student, can I still take part in clubs regarding cybersecurity and other computer science centric clubs. Yes, yes you can. Same for vice versa, if you're a cse student and would like to participate in a mechanical engineering heavy club. Just depends on your interests.
    - 2 question, how many clubs can I join? There is no cap on the number of clubs you can join. I wouldn’t recommend joining too many.
    - 3 question is there a point to joining non-technical clubs if I am not interested in them? It’s a valid question that numerous freshers have. If I am already dead set on getting a FAANG internship, should I even look at anything else? And my answer to that is, yes. Clubs are first a great way of socializing and making friends.
    - 4 question, is it hard to get into clubs? Not at all, I’d say, it is at least a lot easier than student projects and requires way less of a time commitment. You just have to interview for them once and you're in.
    - Some tips for the interviews.

      This may help me to gauge ROI and consider educational loan.

      I don't really remember it branch wise but it's closer to 13-14 on average for CS. Median is probably around that too, not much of a difference.

    How's the attendance scenario at manipal is it too strict? Is it mandatory to attend classes

    • @saranyaghosh2003
      @saranyaghosh2003  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You have to maintain 75 percent attendance in all the subjects and labs.
      Yes, it is very strict, even if your attendance is 73 percent or something, you'll get detained unless your medical leave gets approved (65 percent and above still needs to be maintained), but that also has very few chances so all in all, very strict, have to attend classes regularly.

    • @saranyaghosh2003
      @saranyaghosh2003  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is time, but it's really limited. You have to wisely manage your time and optimize it for side hustles and learning skills.
