Today I give a one year update on my PSM 156 Power Conditioner. Why did I almost sell it? This piece has been with me for a while and I really noticed what it has been doing for me all of this time WHEN I TOOK IT OUT! My one year update on what truly transformed my system. It may not be for you though, so check out this video to hear why it worked for me.
Enjoy!

I worked on office machines for 40 years. Some of our equipment had weird error codes and we suspected power. We had a line monitor and it printed out power fluctuations like an EKG. Some of the results were shocking. Sometimes we would see peaks of 400 volts on the 120 volt lines! Momentary peaks but still possibly harmful. When we had our house built, I had them run a dedicated line to my system outlet and have never had any problems.
Put a Torus power supply in my system some time ago and it made the whole system more stable and all areas sounded better…..now the punch line. I removed the stock power cable and put in the Puritan cable….whoa. It’s not black magic …..it’s a more black background….everything seems enhanced…..in a great way. Resolution and layering are the main areas of improvement. I had tried two other cable manufacturers and hardly noticed a change. Those puritan power cords really work.
I have 2 conditioners along with whole house surge protector, will never be without them. The voltage shift here is over 6 volts!! So it is100% stable now, along with Humm and such, these keep it gone.
Also since I see comments about it, I have a 10 foot copper/alloy ground rod in the ground!
Your electrical system probably needs grounding with an earth wire clamped to an 8 foot copper coated rod and driven into the ground.
That’s what she said!
@@mpi5850 You Auntie Bertha?
Yes, and the audio room should be like a Hitler bunker!
Dude had his whole house rewired to solve the problem and it didn't work.
Love my 156!
My PSM156 is the best component in my system. I have their Groundmaster also, which made another step improvement.
That REL dust cap looks different than the normal T9/x looks great, cant wait for review..
Puritan with the groundmaster is a game changer...Single best thing I have put in my systems in the 25 years I have been in hifi.
I bought one based on your recommendation and it is wonderful. Even if you have decent power i can't imagine the Puritan not having a huge impact. Its not subtle.
In addition to rewiring my house current with sufficient ampage dedicated to my home theater, I,ve had a top-tier Audience AR6 power conditioner I've had for like 10 years. Couple that with my Audio Research analog preamp / Oppo 205 and I have no doubt the sound would diminish greatly without that piece.
During the summer in Florida I run the conditioner into a Cyberpower Sinewave UPS which keeps 90% of Dynamics intact...and more importantly It keeps my heart from racing too much because of the terrible weather here!
People who live in the country, will generally have poorer quality Hydro, it's because you have much longer hydro runs and much fewer power transformers on your hydro poles, instead of smooth flowing power it tends to have more spikes and drops compared to city power which is more regulated.
Finding an effective power filtering for the mains, ethernet and USB has taken my rig way up the food chain. Simply can't get there without these power issues being taken care of.
In someones main problem is DC on the amplifier toroid transformer, the buzz can be eliminated with the AVA Humdinger DC line Blocker from Van Alstine.
Interesting observation about the humming - glad your solution works. I had a similar issue with my Denafrips DAC. Vinshine pointed out that this is a known issue with power supplies if your mains contains DC, so in my case a DC blocker solved that particular problem:-)
Please upload more Daniel Hertz sound demos.
I’m a believer in power effecting the sound. I would challenge you to investigate the Plixar BAC 3000. I have many Plixar products and find the impact to be amazing. Warning that it weights 40!kgs so be prepared for some weight.
Yes, the Plixir is an awesome conditioner but it is over double the price so it should be better. Also, as you point out, it is a beast in weight.
affecting
A separate outlet 20amp copper cable straight from the breaker board panal would provide cleaner power
Not true. Mains pollution comes from far and wide. My beast system's outlet is 20' of 20 amp Romex to the one outlet only... and my power noise filter makes a dramatic difference, so does the filters for the USB power and the galvanic isolation for the Ethernet connection. Dirty power is everywhere until filtered out.
@bayard1332 systems clips on 15amp after 1800watts; so the 20amps make the differences.
Considering the Puritan PSM 136 which is the smaller brother for the 156. I wonder if the 156 is better then the Audioquest Niagra 1200 you had reviewed before?
that is a gorgeous red
i thouth the most important part is a preamp why oh why?
The sound of my system is better at night because the ambient noise is way lower. I live in a city.
When an artist explains engineering 😂
I too have power issues I'm chasing down that I thought were solved. I purchased my PP20 at the same time as you and also switched to the PSM156 (a pair of them) and they have been terrific. However, a big HOWEVER, I acquired a pair of monoblocks (PASS LABS X 260.8) and my power issues resurfaced. Each PSM156 buzzes with a single mono plugged in. I am back to having to wait until late night listening to experience the best sound. The frustrating part is that I am not getting answers and I will not get into detail, but it has now been over a month.
I had a similar, but not identical problem in my system. No humming from the amp, but a harshness to the sound, even with the psm156. Turns out, as awesome as the Puritan is at cleaning up the power of other issues, it does not remove all DC from the lines. I added an Emotiva CMX2 in front of the Puritan, and it totally fixed my issue! Give it a go, they're only $89 and a total miracle machine 🤙
Oh and I forgot to mention, it absolutely doesn't impede or choke up the power or sound, it's seemingly invisible :)
Glad to see that you have the Ruins LP by First Aid Kit.
A little off topic, but I wonder would this remove the input lag I'm getting on my computer.
Thanks fro the videos... You should really try the Yamaha AS3200 integrated amp - If you have a world class DAC still on hand to pair with.
I can only use subs with high level speaker inputs in my systems. A rarity in many of today's subs.
Should always have a pair of gloves near by.
Your hifi virus can never be cured! Merry Christmas and a happy new hifi year!
Has anyone compared this with a Shunyata Triton/Typhon or Everest? Would love to know which is better. I'm currently running a Triton/Typhon and very happy, but I haven't compared to anything else.
0:50 Daum.. looks heavy 📦
It looks like it’s the basics …pay attention to the small details .👍
Your ears, and the ability to discern and appreciate!
Made a deal and reneged……hmmm
Not cool behavior
Yes, I wouldn't have done that.
Gota shake on it for it to become your word
He asked the buyer if they would return, he didn't Tell them to send it back
@@dtracy03ssHe never sent it to the buyer at all. He just changed his mind after the check cleared. NO VERY COOL
10:15 So the Puritain runs parallel with the curcuit it is plugged in to?
There's no hum coming from my £25 2nd hand amplifier in my 200 year old house 😅🤷 Yamaha rocks!
How do you plug your ultimate power cable which has C13 termination to the power conditioner which appears to have a C20 input?
The Ultimate Puritan cables can be ordered with either a C13 or C19 end - most of your hifi electronics will require the C13 connector but the PSM156 needs the C19 connector (which is the connector that Puritan supplies for the power cord for the 156.).
Nice
Not an expert here but doesn’t this sound like dc offset? Wouldn’t a device like the one from Emotiva take care of it? $82.00
Nope I tried that one. Still have it sitting in a closet. I tried several things, spent a ton, returned a couple things. This is the only piece that helped and eliminated all issues.
@@HiFiHufffair enough. The Emotiva worked on mine. Went through wayyyy too many devices before I figured that out :)
Yeesh, another Rel😢
LOL
why is there soooo much sililance, emphasis on the s sounds, super annoyting, sharp and fatiguing
I can not believe that your powersupply is that bad!?
Seems to be. Without the Puritan nothing but issues .. buzz, hum, less than stellar sound, ground issues, etc. with the Puritan nothing but beautiful music. I now have friends who own the Puritan and says it really improved their systems as well. Don’t have to have bad power to benefit. There’s a video here on YT of a guy doing demos for people with and without it… the results are amazing.
Almost all properties’ mains supplies are corrupted.
This one is in a rural area, probably with quite an old electrical install and a long run.
@@n.lyndley.9889 powersupply gadgets have become the new hifi snakeoil!!!
@@n.lyndley.9889 you should get some education and learn about ohms law! The powersupply has never been a real issue! However, if you think that snakeoil makes you happy, go for it!!!
@@n.lyndley.9889 have you tried pure gold?!
Man, don't keep telling what you're going to say, just tell it! Disliked because of click bait title...
🤣
audiovoodoo......
Well spoken!
Look at the Puritan TH-cam videos and the engineer clearly shows the mains supply on an oscilloscope - it’s way cleaner using the Puritan.
Not voodoo, electrical engineering.
