Sexism (ie: the record label believing that they couldn't market the song with Amy's vocals alone) ruined this otherwise hauntingly beautiful song.

This is the version she intended to be on the album. Her record label wanted every song on the track to be similar to bring me to life with the male rapping/whatever. She vehemently refused and in the end they settled on doing one song like that. I think this version is much better but that's just my opinion.

This version is so much better. It captures the essence of the song. It’s darker. It’s more emotional. It’s timeless. The rapping shit makes it sound dated. I like rock. I like rap. I even like when they’re mixed. But not in this case.

I understand why most people don't like the album version because of the male vocals. I love this version, I think it's incredible. But I will also always love the album version and it will always be my favorite version. I listened to it all the time since I was five years old. Love this version, but the album version is still amazing.
moxxi to the max most people hate it because it wasn't the band's decision, their record label forced them to when it wasn't necessary. Their label just wanted money and that was what was popular at the time
This is my favourite version of the song because the electric guitar is far more prominent and kick ass. And it's just Amy Lee singing. What more could you want?

I hated the male vocals on the album version. And so did Amy. In fact she basically went on strike and said she was just going to not do Evanescence at all because they tried to make her find a male singer for the group.

This version was the first song I have ever heard from Evanescence and shall always remain my favorite ^w^. 10 years ago I was practically only 6 and a half and this song I couldn't stop listening to.

This one feels strange and you can feel that something important is missing. It's sad that they went against Amy's wishes since she's the author but they definitely improved this song. Although I like Lithium, Missing, Whisper, Last breath, I must dreaming, and My immortal, I was kinda disappointed that other songs were a lot different than Bring me to the life. My favorite genre is NU metal so that might be the reason. Either way, it's great having female singers in metal bands.

Just listen to what a young Polish girl (Aliki) did with this song on Britains Got Talent... breathtaking. She even outclassed Katherine Jenkins... some achievement.

I always thought evanescence needed to layoff the generic 80s monster ballad guitar riffs & the dude screaming. Amy would have been better as a solo act, her songs are 95% wonderful with a 5% gotta make sure we can sell this to the generic "girl rocking out" crowd. They just seem forced sometimes. Female vocalists have pulled off natural sounding rock songs, Heart - Crazy on you & Magic Man, Jefferson Airplane - White Rabbit & Somebody to Love, most of Garbage the heavy parts flow very naturally & have unique tones. evanescence is a beautiful voice, full of emotion, full of energy and unique tones vocal tones then BAM cookie cutter riffs and screaming... not sure what her relation is to the rest of the band but they dont really do her justice
