    The explanation of the progression in the beginning is a Good example of why learning some theory is useful.
    I actually got the gist of it😳🤔

    Just a stellar lesson, thank you! I'll be spending a lot of time appreciating the association of notes and chord tones/arpeggios. I've been listening to these descending progressions for years- they go back to Baroque music (Vivaldi), Bach, and resurrected in the Cabaret music in Europe in the 30's and 40's. Parisian Walkways similarly constructed, I think.

    Really great video. I love your teaching style. Very indepth but you're not insulting anyone's intelligence while you're doing it. As someone who's been playing for over 20 years but never learned that much theory until recently, you're videos really help answer the 'why' to the techniques and licks I already have the 'how' for.
    Thabk you for doing this!

    Perfect. Been keeping my eyes peeled for a solo to learn for skill-gathering and new phrases and this is an old favorite I tried learning long before I was able as a 2nd or 3rd year player. I'm thinking this and Extreme - Rest in Peace should open up some weirder areas for me.

    He was playing "greeny" a famous les paul, origionally owned by Peter Green, the pick ups are wired out of phase, makes it very bright. Its the one in the picture.

    • @sparpant
      @sparpant 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      It is the one in the picture but Gary used another ‘59 Les Paul nicknamed “Stripe” for most of the album including this track. It was his main live guitar in the early 90’s too. “Greeny” was only used on a couple of songs in the set including “The Messiah Will Come Again” and “Parisienne Walkways”. “Stripe” has no pickup covers which is the easiest way to tell the difference between the two guitars.

    • @CharlieLongGuitar
      @CharlieLongGuitar  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yep Greeny is a legendary guitar - but as mentioned below he played “Stripe” on Still Got The Blues. Greeny is in the thumbnails

      @@gibs8412 They are quite similar in colour - any ‘burst faded by the passage of time. I think “Greeny” was the only Les Paul Standard Gary owned until he bought “Stripe” in 1988 and was the main guitar he played with Lizzy.

    Hi Charlie good job. Garys music deserves to be appreciated. The last 4 chords of the solo to my inderstanding should be voiced Bm7b5, Bm7b5, E7, A7. what is your take on that.

      Pretty sure it stays on E7 because it goes back to A minor for the chorus. Thanks for taking time to comment! 🎸🎶🔥

      @@gav25x they wanted to play with him because Gary was relevant at 1 point, it's much like great musicians want to play on stage with Dave Grohl because Dave fills stadiums. I've seen footage of Paul from the Beatles and Page from Zeppelin playing with Grohl, they don't think he is a good player they just know they can get more fans sharing the stage with him. I hope that makes sense.
