This looks like a very useful pedal that really shows it's value in a live context when you need a part to poke out in a busy mix or for soloing. Would be great to do demos like this with a recorded rhythm section (or live) just to show how effective it can really be.
I can't tell if the colour grading change at 7:10 is intentional or not haha. but it works with the pedal, on/off, switch there 😊 another note, yes this pedal is such a cool idea, can image it being very useful as a tool, or as an always on kinda pedal. sounds great! always get excited for, and love your pedal review man. keep them coming!
Great demo, good to see the N4 back in action. I like this pedal A LOT. It would work really well as a boost for single note lines, really make a guitar pop out in a live mix.
I don't play much over driven music these days but I watch your vids because you always manage to have "Tone" unlike some others that keep my cat bleeding from the ears and clawing its way out the door. You present what the product can do to and for your gear and you still hear the gear. That's important!
Get some cool effects pedals! Modulation stuff! Really enjoying seeing you being inspired and come up with interesting riffs in the spot with those kind of pedals!
The fact that it is a mids boost can distract you from the fact that cutting low frequencies is what increases the articulation. Try a low freq cut with any eq pedal and a humbucker guitar and you will notice it. Of course boosting mids also makes it a more tasty tone.
Yep - there used to be a Yamaha pedal for this called the Nathan East NE-1 - pretty much was the same functionally as the haunting Mids. It was generally used as a sort of bass cleanup pedal - clarifying the sound overall by messing with the mids. It was a parametric.
It's a single band parametric equalizer that targets the mid-range frequencies. Yes you can use it to boost solos or tighten the low end response of a Rectifier. If you want a more versatile alternative try the WMD Parametric EQ. It's a three band parametric equalizer. It's like a Furman PQ3 in a pedal form factor. Back in '80s and early '90s the Furman PQ3 was used by many bands as a boost and tone shaping unit before amps. Even Dimebag used the PQ3.
I am late to the party on this one here, but yes, this pedal and all frequency shaping devices should be placed AFTER the drive/gain stages and in the effects loop whenever possible. EQ's typically always work best here and won't directly increase the gain levels of your overdrive/distortion sources when in the loop. When placed BEFORE your OD/dist sources, both volume boosts and frequency boosts (especially midrange) can and will drastically alter your gain stage and gain structure. That is the issue he is referring to early in the vid. I'm assuming there is no effects loop in this particular setup?
Eh, different strokes for different folks. I play an AC30 which doesn’t have a mids control at all so this pedal was perfect to help dial the mids in or out without having to adjust the bass and treble controls. Definitely a niche pedal for sure tho. It does what it does, YMMV.
No no no dude they didn't *copy* any designs, they just *borrowed* them, and then claimed they invented them, and made up a story about how they invented them. Oh, and then they continued to sell them after even one of the actual designers asked them to stop.
The guitar is a mid range instrument. That's the frequency it lives on, why wouldn't you want more control over that? It's definitely not for everyone, but definitely not pointless. Being able to tweak your mid range in a mix can be the difference between you standing out or completely disappearing.
@@TomsGreenMind you know what else allows you to tweak your midrange? A 5-10 band eq, which is a whole lot more value for money than one extra mids knob
Well, it has a Q adjustment which an EQ does not. And the centre frequency is variable (parametric), which is not a feature on an EQ pedal. There is just 2 reasons..
That shirt really stuffed with my eyesight hahaha, cool pedal!
Try it with old, fucked up eyes! Circle of Tone dude had same shirt. Can't look at it.
Gives me a headache looking at it.
If you know what an Amsler Grid Test is, I'm sorry. If not, hope you never have to find out!
thought my glasses were off for a couple seconds

10/10 would buy just for that SPOOKY ghost....its almost the season!!!

its awesome man. every thing sounds good when rabea plays it

Thank you doing a review of this great pedal, I want it so bad and your going to make me want it more, which is good and bad!
Love this pedal! Sounds great around 3 o clock!
In the afternoon? :)
Great review, I can definitely see myself using this pedal. A bit like a more versatile treble booster and then some!
This is how pedal reviews should be. Thx!
is ALL THE MIDS!! a meme for this channel yet?
No but I’ll welcome them with open arms :)
Not a meme.... It's a way of life
Haha. I just finished watching Colin's Boss HM-2 comparison. No mids.... (you know)
AND NO GAIN!!!!!!!!!
What's the opposite of Slayer then?
15:00 "loads of mids needed." lol my deathmetal side is showing, cause that sounded GREAT for a rhythm tone.
Same

As he arrived at the gig, he realised that he'd left his JHS Haunting Mids pedal at home. So they cancelled their set and everyone went home.
I’m immediately distracted by the font on your T-shirt Rabea 😂😂😂

This would be great for bass

Dat N4 tho! Sick.
Great demo, many thanks.
Pretty sure anything sounds great on the Kraken, especially with Rabea playing ;)
Hi Bea! hope you all doing fine out there.. Can I use this pedal for boosting my solos and cutting through the mix? Using it on a mesa mini rectifier

Amazing! 🎶🤘🏼
Very "Walk All Over You" around 6:30 ☆☆☆☆☆
Is it good as a volume boost after the distortion to bring up the volume and shape the tone for soloing?

I think I want that to help shape my bass sound
I want one!
Any idea when we're getting the 100 watt Kraken?
So this is basically just a 1 band parametric eq?
Good day Rabea
The mid cut would be great for that overly mid heavy kraken
sick guitar
Does anyone know what kind of pickups our boi uses in this guitar?!?! Please LMK, me likey, me likey a soo much
I don't remember watching this video a while ago, but I remember that shirt
I think the lesson here is that I need a kraken. :)
Empress para eq is 3 haunting mids in one
I have the empress para eq and it isnt haunted
@@spada60 👻
I wonder if it djents.
"Sort of..."
Get a joyo American sound for $25 instead. It has a 3 band eq that is a great tone shaper.
joyo also makes power supplies that say they're isolated but aren't , so i'll pay more for a quality product
That Black Peaks T shirt is making me dizzy.
Seems pointless when you can just buy an eq pedal. Edit: I'm a complete idiot, now I need this lol

@@firemarshal2629 I'm thinking of getting one. My or15 seems quite muddy and the eq knobs dont seem to sharpen things enough. Will this help?
The text on your shirt gave me anxiety.
Hey ur shirt is out of focus. It's making me dizzy aha
Is it haunted by the ghosts of the designer that JHS stole it from? Hey-ooo!
👽 inevitable vegan future 👽 JHS has never stolen a design. They just copied the design and didn’t tell anyone they copied it. Wait...

A one band eq? Seems a bit pointless
Thinking the same.

I think this can also act as a tube screamer, or at least it sounded like that
