    So I comment a lot about Nick’s great drum sounds. I am building a new studio and I am trying to tweak it for the best drum sound possible. Now, how many pedal shelves would you say are the minimum I would need to get that sound? Is it important what pedals are on the shelves? Is a mixture of different brands important for breaking up the standing waves or would it be okay if I use all Boss pedals?

    Josh, this is cool, but I’m still voting that you make a pedal that has the overdriven, swirly, phasy sound of the guitar/organ in the son “No Matter What” by Badfinger, and you should make it a mini pedal and call it the “Dirty Digit”. Thanks for making this, though.

      Mini pedals drive me nuts. I have one my my pedal board (TC PolyTune) and it rocks and moves and drives me insane. I've gone 100% to full-size pedals because they stay in place during live performances. That said, if you can manage them and have the right pedal board, more power to you. I have a hard time standing on one foot in any case, let alone trying to hit a mini-pedal in a forest of full-sized pedals.

    I was just leaving a guitar lesson when they announced over the radio that Stevie Ray's body was recovered from the helicopter wreckage. I went home and just soaked my pillow with tears.
    Favorite SRV song/album? I have to go with "Couldn't Stand the Weather".

    What is the story with the Boss Tube Screamer?

    • @DamnedIntrovert
      @DamnedIntrovert 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I want to know what that is too. I've never seen a tubescreamer in a Boss enclosure before. I can't imagine it being an authentic Boss pedal though, most likely, just a clone tubescreamer circuit in a Boss enclosure, rather than a Boss' version of the tubescreamer. I am curious to know the story behind that pedal though.

      Ha! I know that pedal.
      That's a pedal from a russian company that was called Гамма (Gamma), which to my knowledge comes from a company called Yerasov. Yerasov is the last name of their founder Alexander, who basically is treated as a 'russian Marshall', the guy was the first one to ever produce quality local made tube amps that were not expensive, like the Gavrosh series. These amps are pretty popular out here, my band even used one of those in the studio. Unfortunately the man passed away a year ago, but still lives in all that gear that he has created.
      Those Gamma pedals used Boss-like enclosures, so that's a Gamma Tube Screamer in that casing. They ain't bad. New Yerasov SCS pedals are great for their price as well.
      Never thought I would be telling russian guitar stories here.

      Since the Screamer is based off a Boss pedal doesn't that make the Boss the original Screamer?

    I know I’m 5 months late here, but the obvious inspo from Something’s Missing-a heavily overlooked Mayer song-made me smile a bit. One of my favorite JM songs. That jam was awesome.

    A few years back, Josh taught a class at Sweetwater where students (myself among them) modded a Tube Screamer and built a boost. If I recall correctly, the mod we did in that class sounds similar to this 3 series tube screamer. Is it close?

    My guitar hero growing up in the 80s was the duo from Iron Maiden which is Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. When I saw the rig Dave used on Number of the Beast album in a Guitar World magazine and that he used his Strat with DiMarzio Super Distortion pickups into a Tube Screamer into a Marshall JCM 800, that became my rig and have been using it every since. That’s my tone, the sound in my head. I have tweaked it over the years but the essence is still there

    Your ability to teach about pedals, demo them, and entertain pales in comparison to your setting up the jam with a well-thought through story that hits so deeply. That was very Trader Joes and it was felt deeply.

    JHS 3 Series are amazing. The overdrive from this series is a hidden gem. I use it on clean with an eq pedal to get a "bluesbreaker" sound, stack it before drives to get a "break up" sound or stack it after fuzz pedals to make them go wilder. I'm hoping that you will release a "3 Series Spring Reverb" one day but before that what we all need is a "3 Series Klon" 🙂 Come on Josh give us a Klon 🙂

    Great video of the tubescreamer and some of the variants.. tubescreamer after my octavia and fuzz face is my go to .. owning a TS-808 , TS-9 including the Ruby Red Anniversary edition, TS-10.. the Maxon OD808 nails it for me and has been my main OD for years.. but I do switch from time to time to different OD depending on what I hear in my head the sound I’m wanting at that moment.. Too many SRV songs to just give one favorite and for so many reasons too.. But “Life Without You” “ Lenny” “ Riviera Paradise “ “Love Struck Baby “ “ Voodoo Chile” etc... all of his songs and covers are favorites.. SRV and his music definitely got me through a pretty dark time in my life.. Gone too soon but he was one of the very few that could speak through the guitar with raw emotion and passion and with fury..
