I’ve watched ever damn video on TH-cam for this issue and your by far is the best and most informative. Thanks for taking the time to explain and show examples. It goes a long way
Thank you for sharing your info. I just turned mine on for the fall and the pilot burns, but the fire goes out after a few minutes. I'm letting the pilot light burn a while before I dig into it. I do want to say THANK YOU for not starting off your video with "hey youtubers" when I hear those words, I usually move on. Very professional and God bless someone who shares knowledge.
I’ll keep your warm if you let me … Gotta say thank you so much for all the editing, nd content for the education of us guys in the field . I do like your closing line as well 👍
Here in California where people burn gas fireplaces all year long, the cause of flames going out is usually due to a dirty or weak thermopile. Otherwise known as a pilot generator. Or a millivolt generator. Anything over 375 is good, 250 is gettin lo, and 150 mv I think is too weak. 450 is like new.
My pilot stays on but seems to be low and when I try turn heat on you can hear gas coming in but failed to ignite right away and your have a buildup of gas , T on time that I lit it with the buildup it scared me and I’m afraid to try that again, I did clean every 😊thing as you described and this is my problem, Thank you for what you do
My propane gas logs are not putting out as much heat as they used to the flame on high is nowhere near what it used to be and there's more odor coming from the logs than used to be what could this be? Thanks for your videos I appreciate you 👍
My pilot light never goes out but my fireplace will randomly shut off or not turn on when I flip the switch. I replaced the switch on the wall thinking that was the issue. It didn’t fix the problem. I would override the wall switch by using an on off switch at the base of the fireplace. That worked for a while. Now it’s very random whether or not either switch will work. Any ideas?
Thermopiles do become weak,, 3-5 yrs of heavy use.. BUT If your pilot flame is too low, it wont produce 450mv-750max.. So clean the hole or adjust the "pilot adj" screw ..
Why would my fireplace have a couple and a thermopile? I understand what the couple does, so what is the thermopile providing to the fireplace?....I'm from upstate NY!
Good info thanks very much. Question: ? I just replaced the 30,000 BTU unvented LP eater in my pole barn. If I turn it all the way up it should stay burning, but it shuts off after certain amount of time (the old one didn’t do that) (same model heater) I think the gas valve went bad and it was 8 yrs old so I replaced the heater. However I think the new model has a low oxygen sensor somewhere. Could that be causing this heater to shut off? I mean the building is 32 x 40 with 10 foot ceilings and there’s no way the building is running out of air. Even though it’s well insulated the garage doors aren’t sealed very well. Any insight on this? Thank you
I replaced my entire igniter assembly which includes the sparker, pilot and thermopile. Sometimes after the burner lights it runs a minute or so then shuts off. I didnt clean the burner so Im wondering if thats the issue or is my gas valve the issue
Just replaced my pilot light assembly and noticed that the pilot light stays lit (nice blue flame covering the thermocouple) but randomly the burner and flames go out and then wait a few minutes or turn the switch off and back on it lights the burner again. Does this sound like a faulty switch? It’s a Majestic fireplace DV42. Thank you
I had a service man out to troubleshoot my Heat-N-Glow SL 750TRC. The pilot would ignite, and a flame around logs was produced. Unfortunately, the log flame would automatically shut off after some time. The serviceman said my unit did not have a thermocouple: is it possible that the unit had worked without a thermocouple for the 2 years prior?
I have a gas fireplace “the Appalachian stove uv-3800”. I bought my townhouse 4yrs ago. The fireplace has never worked. Pilot will light and the fireplace will light but everything cuts out a few minutes later. I’ve sanded the TC and it would stay lit slightly longer after doing that but will still eventually cut out. Im not sure how to tell if the TC is adjusted/in the pilot flame properly or not. Or if the flame is correct or not. If that makes sense. I’m wanting to start using my fireplace during the winter. My neighbor does hvac and has a little experience with gas fireplaces. He says the tc isn’t the issue. But by my research to me it seem like that is the issue. Any help would be much appreciated. I’m located in North Carolina! Thanks.
Hi I have vent-free natural gas fireplace. Pilot turns on. However, when I turn on the burner. Both Burner and pilot go off within 5 to 10 seconds. I cleaned the pilot with compressed air can. Also cleaned the thermocouple with a scotch. But it did not work.
Hello, 24” non vented gas logs… so I’m attempting to light the pilot using a candle/bar b q type lighter holding the pilot button in and instead of the pilot lighting the hold unit comes on… I leave it on for maybe 30 seconds and I can see that the pilot is still is not on. If you could advise me as to what parts to replace, I would appreciate it.

Hello, my name is Anthony. I have a Majestic fireplace that last year. I shut off the pilot light for the summer time. uperiod. Up until this time, the fireplace worked substantially. but next winner. I lit the pilot and attempted to turn it on and as soon as I. Switched the pilot to on the flame shut off. I reached out to a local company which Assured me it was the thermal couple and I replaced it. it still did not work. The company is now saying it's the whole valve and it will be around a $1000 to replace. any chance it could be the pinhole clogged with dust that you are talking about and if so, any chance you could walk me through. Cleaning up? It's a majestic. I will send the model number in another message to follow this one. Thank you for your time happy thanksgiving
You should check out one of my most recent videos. He gives you more information on the problem with gas heaters like that As far as a $1000 that seems like quite a bit of money for that part.
@TaddyDigest they said the new valve will run about 800.00 and the labor will be around 200. Thank you for your quick response. Cleaning the pin whole thing, is that at the valve as well or only the assembly? I will look for current vids to see of I find one that matches my issues directly. Thank you!
Great video. Can you explain what is the purpose of the thermopile compared to the Thermo couple? In my case, the pilot stays lit, but i have the impression the thermopile isn't giving a strong enough signal to light the main flame. Can it be related?
Ok I documented myself and apparently the thermocouple sends a signal for the pilot light valve only. The thermopile on the other hand sends the signal for the main burner valve.
I have never seen a gas flame do what was happening in the first part of the video. It would have to be a surge in the gas valve or regulator. A bad TC on a gas valve will cause the pilot to not stay on. I believe that you were playing with the remote.
I remember discovering the remote when first working on one. The owner simply didn’t tell me. I was looking at a mysterious black box with t-stat size wires. Couldn’t figure it out. Then later during diagnosis I looked at it hard, saw it took four c cell batteries, and they were dead. Simple switch on it turned it to manual. I think hers actually did run on the thermocouple, and not the usual thermopile that I see with most heaters. Hey, one tech to another. Did you happen to see the instructions that he showed briefly right at the end of the video? Did you notice how the pilot burner head had two different igniters, a thermocouple, and a thermopile attached to it. Man, I just couldn’t get my head wrapped around it. Anyway, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on it?? 🎃
Fine video, I like the wife in the background.. but more info & less talk would be much quicker/better for viewers.. No Hate meant, ok bro.. but the banner was unnecessary... >Thermocouples are a single junction of two metals. The pilot light goes on, although I cannot turn the switch to the on position without the pilot light going out
your ODS pilot is clogged and needs to be cleaned. which is much more likely the real cause of your shut down

Hi i have a gas fireplace i changed the thermo couple but still after 5 min it goes off can you help please
Hello, will this therma coupler work with a PFS Ventless gas fireplace?
My fireplace gradually decreases and goes out starting at about 32 degrees. Sounds like water in the line freezing. Could it be?
I'm not sure
It could be if it's propane and the regulator is underwater.
Thanks for the video. With the barge units. It was a good experience. Thanks so much...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Why does the flame stay lit when I use the switch at the unit but flickers and goes out when I use the wall switch?
I got my pilot working, but when set to the ON position, I can’t get the large flame to light. Can I disconnect the remote ?
yes you should be able too
My fireplace lights ok but keeps puffing off and on as if the gas is going off and on. What should I change first. Thanks
check the thermocouple first to see if 1 is in the flame and 2 if its dirty check out my how to fix gas heater video
@@TaddyDigest My fireplace is doing the same thing. It takes 5-7 minutes until it starts puffing so makes sense it's the thermocouple
Dude, yellow tip flame on pilot and its wavering a little. Dirty? Also, is that a pilot generator in there? Sure looks like one.

You're welcome
the thermocouple/thermopile DOES NOT send an electrical "signal!" it sends voltage (millivolts) real voltage that powers a coil creating a magnet
An electrical signal is a voltage or current which conveys information, usually it means a voltage. The term can be used for any voltage or current in a circuit. from a battery or regulated power supply, this is ideal for electronic circuits. from a smoothed power supply, this is suitable for some electronics.

yes
