The official TH-cam channel of Grammy Award-winning artist Rob Thomas.
Rob Thomas is one of modern music’s most compelling and commercially successful artists. For twenty years, he has been the frontman and primary composer for alternative rock band Matchbox Twenty, leading the quintet to multiplatinum success over the course of four albums and hits that include “Push,” “3AM,” “Bent,” “If You’re Gone,” and “Unwell.”
Thomas’ first solo albums, 2005’s platinum-certified #1 album ‘Something To Be’ and 2009’s ‘cradlesong’ generated the hit singles “Lonely No More,” “This is How A Heart Breaks,” “Her Diamonds” and “Someday. ’Something to Be’ became the first album by a male artist from a rock/pop group to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200 since the chart had debuted. With ‘cradlesong’, he made history once again as the only male artist with multiple #1 hits at Adult Top 40, with most #1s by a solo male artist in the chart’s history. Thomas released his 3rd solo album ‘The Great Unknown' in 2015.

This song was written by a man who truly loves his wife who is battling Lupus. Her Diamonds hit the charts in the middle of my wife's 14 month battle with cancer. I feel every word in these lyrics, sobbing at the end of the song. On Labor day 9/3/12 my dear wife could "take no more." She too tried her best -never complained, just pressed forward bravely. I willl miss her and her strength for the rest of my life.

What she’s experiencing in this video with the ice breaking etc is the same way I feel with my MS… feels like every part of my body is breaking like glass… EVERYDAY… 😔 🙏🏼 I love that he made this song / video for anyone struggling with any illness like this. We can relate. I feel this pain everyday and it’s exactly like glass breaking in my body (the ice breaking and melting on her is similar). Having to live with lifelong conditions the way we do is so draining and terrifying 😔 🙏🏼

I know rob. He tied to show the emotion and love he has for his wife by writing and performing this tribute to her. Many of us go through pain in life because of a family member's health problems. I did so with the loss of my wife to melanoma after 60 years of being married and living a wonderful life up to the end. If I could express my feelings to her in a song, I would want it to be as powerful as "Her Diamonds"!!!

I have SLE Lupus, Fibromyalgia & Lyme disease (that was certainly a surprise, have no idea how that happened) the pain and suffering is unbearable. I was diagnosed in 2009. My husband of 20 years and father of my 3 children just lays next to me & cries if I'm crying. Daniel it isn't. Rob Thomas said why he wrote the song. "The album’s first single, the kaleidoscopic “Her Diamonds,” is the most personal song Thomas has yet committed to disc. Rob’s wife Marisol is courageously battling an autoimmune disease, and “Her Diamonds” was written “about a couple dealing with that on a day-to-day basis,” explains Thomas. “There’s an incredible amount of sadness that comes with something like that. There are moments where I think I flirted with a thinner personal line than I’ve ever done before, but, really, I’m writing a song about how people deal with hard times, and that hard time is universal, that hard time can be anything."" -theiciexperience.blogspot.com/2009/09/marisol-maldonado-comes-out-of.html

In addition to having a very unique voice, Rob also has a great understanding of depression, self deprecation, or just feeling weird once in a while (Her Diamonds, Bent, Unwell). He is also forever hopeful (Someday), and he has even developed a sense of humor (Smooth, She's So Mean). At one interview he was asked if Matchbox Twenty minded his doing independent projects. His reply was that there is a lot of stuff going on inside his head. Matchbox Twenty is one outlet and his personal projects allow him to express other art that does not fit the MT structure. Either way, he is so talented, and we enjoy his music. It is beautiful that he compares her tears to diamonds instead of just saying "she brings the water works."

Jennifer Good that one's actually called "little wonders" and it's written about their loving furbaby, Tyler, who has passed over to the rainbow bridge. His songs are always so universal, but most sadly are written from enduring pain he sees and feels from his wife's daily struggle with many, many auto immune diseases, Lyme disease. They both are probably the world's greatest, most humble, down to earth humans on this planet. My heart bleeds for their whole family going thru all these struggles. And they will never leave her side.

She was never the religious type but she started praying for a miracle to happen. She ended up overdosing one night, and I remember hearing her say something along the lines of the lyrics in this song. I used to spend every damn waking min w/ this guy. Of course I still have feelings. But that sh ain't healthy. Its just not. I thought I was delicate enough to be there for him but hes making me even more vulnerable than I already am, at my expense and ugh. Sorry bout his issues. But those issues aren't mine anymore. I had no idea what the song was about either . All I knew was he wrote it for his wife . I have bi polar disorder & suffered from depression for most of my life . I found happiness through my faith in God . I have chronic osteoarthritis & hip bursitis ,I also have glaucoma & lost the site in my left eye . I also have sleep apnea . But through all of this I have never complained . I am also going through financial difficulty . I just keep my chin up & live day to day & hold on tight to our Lord . God bless you rob . This is an immensely underrated song; wherein can be found any number of lines which stand alone...just oozing sentiment expressed with simple perfection: "If she feels bad then I do too", "...like I don't know now", "she stares into the distance and takes all night", "...and there's something less about her"; even when he says: "...I can just imagine" ...such a profound response in the master-art of relating. Simple, yet abominably deep for popular-rock.

I was in a toxic system in a toxic baby dad fam situation. Crazy to think now how when his mom wants a random vacation, from sitting on her ass from the deceased hubby's inheritance.. (I'm sure she's jeopardized my daughters belongings) I wonder how I'm supposed to get her around w/ out verification from the incarcerated baby dad... as her MOTHER. He won't even see her till her early 20s. She's 14 now. For a period they... kept her away from me & I gave up... on not wanting to be depressed. I just did all I knew... I was capable of. Keeping my social medias open bc I always had to sneak to buy her phones .. My KID cut her wrists bc of that. So yeah, thx for all that bs. But we're still very close, & now, I know she has her doubts about her s.dad but it's also the 1st she's had a "father." He's her first kid.. This can go either way. They actually have a whole lot in common tho if my jerkwads would just talk to each other. They try tho... :/.

He was 63. i would give anything for those hugs back! The words just blurted out. The pain is never not there. Now i cry wishing i could feel him touching me, trying to comfort me, I totally understand what you are feeling and the hurt inside is so bad. It is worse than the pain on the outside. Godspeed I hope you are not hurting so bad and the drs found a magic dust that is giving you at least some quality of life, My drs dont even look for the magic dust. They care so little,

To know this is about his wife having an autoimmune condition and fighting through that pain, the depth that he feels her pain just gives me life. I'm in the biggest flare I've been in at least five years all of my bones ache every muscle in my body is tense I have so much stress just trying to breathe through this pain. The steroids make me cry, pain makes me cry. And the only thing that makes it any better is to know that there is a person who fiercely supports us out here. Thank you so much Rob I could never repay you for walking through life with us, God I'm so fortunate to have these words just permeate. And I know what that feels like to say I can't take anymore. But this is a lie. As long as I'm here I'll fight. To the lupus warriors, fibromyalgia and Lyme disease fighters, I love you guys and I'm here with you. We can sit in this together, and I promise you, one day soon you're going to wake up and you're going to actually have slept and your body is not going to hurt so bad. You'll get dressed, I know you love to look your best. You'll cover up with those dark circles and deep lines you'll smile in the mirror, damn we clean up nice. You look at that night stand those bottles and bottles of pills, and you'll make your peace with them all over again. I know it's a lot and I know you're tired, but you have someone who cares so much you're going through, I just want you to know that. Rob Thomas is indeed a very special human being, and now that I'm crying I'm going to go. But before I do please just remember life is worth living, no matter what. ❤️

I'm so happy that you talked about lupus because it's a invisible disease. I was somewhat diagnosed at the age of 9 months old in 2003. I went from doctors to doctors trying to figure out what was wrong no one knew. As I got older they found out I had lupus but by that time I was already accepting the fact I was sick and wasn't going to get better. The doctors concluded I was going to die by the age of 10 because due to lupus flaring up it came with asthma and other issues. I am currently 18 and I still have issues with lupus but doctors dont expect the fact that I know a lot about the illness. I find it amusing when I say "I have lupus" to doctors and the reply with "I'm a doctor so I would know if you had lupus" it's my favorite line. I was in the hospital more then 30 times before I was 1 year old due to a complication with my immune system and they still didn't want to accept the fact I had lupus. Thank you for sharing your story and thank you for bringing awareness to a invisible illness.

It's a different form of being able to get others to understand. Like being able to give someone empathy with poetry and music. Awesome artist. Thank you for coming up on 30 years of great music. MatchBox and Sister Hazel were two bands that BMG Music introduced me to that year. I still owe BMG for some of those CD's lol

The best male vocalist of the last 20 years. I remember when yourself or someone like you came out I was in my mid teens and used to fall asleep to that album, and now here almost 40, it still soothes the soul. And his solo work like this is just the icing on the cake. Amazing voice.

I've been dealing with MS for 9 years, depression, and anxiety. There are days where i just want to cry and give up but I can't. I can relate to this song cuz I've left a great deal of diamonds on the floor.

I listened to this song as a kid early Saturday mornings on vh1 and mtv when they did the music video countdowns and it's always stuck with me. I found it again recently as an adult and it's like a wave of memories of better times.

I’ve listened to this song through two major, life changing illnesses. The most difficult moments occurred when I had been up all night, the sun was coming up, and sleep was no where is sight. The poem Defeat by Kahil Gabran also spoke to my soul.

Oh what the hell she says
I just can't win for losing
    And she lays back down
    Man there's so many times
    I don't know what I'm doin'
    Like I don't know now
By the light of the moon
    She rubs her eyes
Says it's funny how the night
    Can make you blind
    I can just imagine
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
But if she feels bad then I do too
    So I let her be
    And she says, oh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
'Cause I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win
It's hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down
    Way down
Well she sits down and stares into the distance
    And it takes all night
And I know I could break her concentration
    But it don't feel right
By the light of the moon
    She rubs her eyes
Sits down on the bed and starts to cry
And there's something less about her
And I don't know what I'm supposed to do
So I sit down and I cry too
    But don't let her see
    And she says, oh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
'Cause I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win
It's hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down
    She shuts out the night
    Tries to close her eyes
    If she can find daylight
    She'll be alright
    She'll be alright
    Just not tonight
    And she says, oh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
'Cause I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win it
Hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling
    And she says, oh
    I can't take no more
Her tears like diamonds on the floor
And her diamonds bring me down
'Cause I can't help her now
    She's down in it
She tried her best and now she can't win
It's hard to see them on the ground
    Her diamonds falling down
    (I can't take no more)
    (Diamonds on the floor)
    (No more) no more
    (No more)
    Diamonds falling down
    (I can't take no more)
    (Diamonds on the floor)
(No more, no more, no more, no more)
    Diamonds falling down, yeah
    (I can't take no more)
    (Diamonds on the floor)
    (No, no, no, no)
Oh diamonds fall, and oh her diamonds
    Diamonds falling down
I can't take these diamonds falling down

I have been searching for this song for 2 years now and I've finally found it. I am getting so much nostalgia right now.
