I totally believe the belt made that much of a difference! I put an Ultimax belt on my 2016 ZR8000 137 and it felt like I gained 20 HP over the Gates belt I had on it !! Ultimax is the only belt I will use on all my sleds, thanks Pete 🙂
Nice one! I rode with 3 Ski Doo's last year, all 850's only a year or two old, one guy heard a noise and upon checking it out at the dealer, it had a bad con rod bearing! While at the Dealer there was another guy there that just blew his engine also!
BRP belts stretch like crazy with use. All I use on my 850 are the XS 821s. With the 150 / 300 factory primary spring and Goodwin 35mm pivot weights with 1.7 gm weights, # for 3 the clicker setting the sled hits 7900 - 7950 constantly and holds there. Love the channel!
Adjusting the belt deflection should have been done first with the belt that was on it and see how it runs. Then put the new belt on and run it to make a fair comparison. If the belt that came on it was worn out any new belt will show better performance. Even a factory Ski Doo belt. This did not show that the Ultimax belt is superior.
Iv never ran a utimax belt that worked without shimming the primary for proper belt width. That being said a wider belt should make more top end but 10mph seams like a lot. Best fitting after market belt for stock clutch calibrations is the dayco in my experience anyway. Been in the snowmobiling for 36 years im now 45. Iv raced cats for 15 years SX semi and pro. XC pro for my last few years of racing all on the east coast. Many wins and championships i always ran cat belts because i got for free. I do work on sleds for friends and some customers. Iv always recommend the factory belt unless the customer wants me to calibrate clutches for aftermarket belt. But the daco almost always works well with stock calibrations. Myself i do run ulimax now that im not a racer and have to buy belts. That and my turbo sleds make a lot of HP and definitely hold up better.
@@UpracefanI don’t want to get into a banter. Because to each their own. I can say that I’ve tried Gates, BRP and Ultimax belts on my 850s, 1200s, 900Ts, 900Rs and finally a Stage 3 900 turbo and the Ultimax was far superior on the 4 strokes, and pretty good on the 2 strokes. Personally, on the 2s I prefer Gates, and the 4s either the BRP or Ultimax and definitely Ultimax on the Stage 3. Tried all different scenarios on them as well.
Another great video. You have me convinced now! Changing the belts on all my sleds. As soon as you start selling them, I will order some. If you are not busy this weekend, you and Billy and the young lady should head to Evansville to watch the oval track sled racing. It’s a great time, would be some great content for your videos. And the beer is cold!! You can either watch from inside or outside. Hope to see you there. Cheers
thank you! yeah it sounds like a good time for sure 🍻 unfortunately the Mrs is workin this weekend and Jim and I gotta get our sleds all back together so we can try and get them out on the ice! we really appreciate all the support and I'll ne sellin the belts very soon! 🍻
I picked myself up in 18 XRS Renegade with the 850 E-Tec and boy those things are finicky! The plugs follow up pretty easy if you're not careful then they definitely don't like any additives in the fuel! Changing out my first set of plugs already and you have to sequence them because of the injectors! Super important or they'll be garbage in a minute
I had to do an extensive clutch alignment on mine. I was blowing belts like crazy. Grip n Rip racing products. Watch the videos and buy tools. Went from blowing belts to 2 yrs on the same belt.
I know guys use to float the secondary on the older Revs to help with blowing belts. Now sure if it's available for the newer sleds. My 900r seems good on belts.
@johnross2626 it has to do with the way the clutches are oriented now and the rubber engine mounts used to isolate vibration. So I'm told. It's been an issue with the early gen 4's but remedied on the newer machines. I fixed mine for ever and bought a yamaha.
Prior to putting on a new belt, wouldn’t it have been a test to adjust the deflection first take it for a run and see what kind of performance difference would make then put the new belt on and see the difference
I put up the 60" big screen and paused on your tach. 1st belt i seen 8200 WOT and touched 8300 at 141kmh; yer pulling 200~300 rpms over the power peak, about 4hp less to be precise. 2nd belt (XS) I seen 8000 and pulling right on the power peak. On the 1st belt, IF you would have lowered the clicker to make pull at 8000, then the sled would have been faster pulling on the power peak rpm. The 850 makes 165hp at 7900, and, 165hp at 8000. [flat power peak] The difference between the two is 1.8 lbs less torque at 8000 rpms. Pulling at 8200~8300 [1st belt] yer pulling at about 160~161hp. I'da changed the clicker on the 1st belt.
If the belt is too loose (too much deflection) it will never get pulled to the bottom of the driven pullley therefore limiting top speed.....I would bet the deflection had never been adjusted on that sled since it was new.....on the other hand if the belt is too narrow (burned up) you will never be able to adjust the deflection to spec. A new belt will always benefit performance but if you don"t keep it adjusted it won't last long. I keep my belts at 1inch to 1 1/4 inch.....deflection when pushing down on the belt with my thumb.
It's best to rebuild the top end of those new E-tec every 10,000km, so it's definitely due. Better to just do it when you can, rather than it leave you stranded somewhere. Not to mention likely costing you a lot more money if you let it blow.
Every pass made is also packing down the trail so that helps too. But I will be looking for Ultimax belts for my machines Thanks Pete CHERRS FROM MANITOBA
The new skidoo's have problems with blowing belts.. i got a 03 skidoo rev 800 no issues, i run a ultimax belt and got 100km on it between two seasons lol. I keep the brp one as a back up tho
A lot of times I see folk change to a new belt, don't set deflection and pin the flipper. They say to go easy with variations in throttle for first 20 or 30 miles.
with all the shields, belt guards and other crap they hang on them now days the belts are running too hot....the only other thing that kills belts is bad clutch alignment.
Very surprised that thing don't hit 100mph, maybe it needs more room to get there, but then again it does have a long heavy track Without a doubt, he belt sure helped but it didn't give all that speed, you change too many variables. I would have adjusted the belt tension, then done a run. Then done the belt change, the the track/sliders adjustment. When we racde Ice oval and snowcross in the late 60's and 70's, we would only change one thing at a time, document it, and carry on with the next thing. Performance tuning is knowing exactly what does what in a given condition. Also that ricky racer throttle bliping cuts belt live by about 1/4 of it's life. Each blip closes the primary, putting excess strain and wear on the belt. Years ago (60's, 70's and early 80's), before accelerator pumps on carbs and fuel injection, it was done(especially two strokes) to help prevent lean bogging when going WOT. We done a bunch of tests on my 76 Ski-doo 250 TNT RV, with Mikunies and our 75 245 TNT fa . The mikunies got rid of the vapor lock stumble Smooth throttle control , easier on belt and less track spin(spinning track is less speed)

Really new sleds top out at like 80mph man sleds from the 90s do that. I’m new but come on a 20* thousand dollar sled can’t at least do 120 I won’t buy one. I’d expect 0-60 in 4ish because of snow and grip and 0-100 in 7-8 seconds but now 0-80 in 10 seconds is to slow for my money
