Just watched a video of a Taylor 714 vs Martin D-28. The Martin was thin and tinny. The Taylor in this video sounds great but the Martin is full and rich. Nothing like the tinny sound in that other video. I've never heard a Martin sound so tinny. Especially a D-28. This video was more of what I had expected.
Some guitars are just better than others. I’ve played tons of 000-15M’s and there have been some that sound meh and others that are unbelievable. To my ears, the Martin is worth it’s weight in gold over the Taylor here, but a different D-28 might not keep up.
I saw that video too. The recording did not seem right. I tossed it out of my memory because it was kind of useless. This video does both guitars justice though. Now if only I could find a similar comparison of a 716/816/916ce to a D28 variant...
I own both. Personally I prefer the sound and playability of my Martin.....but that's just me. It has that warmer deeper tone and the neck feels comfortable to my hand when I play it.
I have 912 ce builder’s edition of Taylor and Martin HD28e. Both are the best guitar. But they have different characters. Martin is boomy and wild. Taylor is melody.
Have have a D28 authentic 1937 that sounds a whole lot better than the D28 in this video. However, I will play and probably buy a 914ce this week which is why I found this video. I know I’ll miss the Martin pop.
They both sound beautiful but honestly it’s not the fairest comparison because the Taylor is a cutaway and the Martin isn’t. The full bodied Martin is going to have a deeper sound just because it’s not a cutaway. They actually both sound similar. I have a feeling that if the Taylor didn’t have a cutaway it would sound exactly the same as the Martin.😊
I have both D-28 and the 914ce and I love both but the 914ce is the better hands down it even sounds better than the D45 ,In my opinion Taylor actually kills Martin guitars and I have both .
I have a 914ce-v and it has a very hi-fi clarity to it that I've not heard on other guitars. Both sound great in this demo. I think it's what your ears hear and fingers feel in person.
I don’t know what it is but that Martin almost brought tears of joy to my eyes. It’s almost like I can hear myself singing along with that guitar to where my vocals and that guitar would be in perfect musical harmony. The Taylor tries too hard, it sounds good but it’s detached from the human emotion side of things which essentially means that it misses the whole point of the music. The Martin D-28 is hands down better to me.
I’ve had both Martins and Taylors. They both have their strong points. The deal breaker for me has always been the neck. Taylor necks have a joint at the nut, and at the heel of the neck, like the inexpensive Asian guitars, to conserve wood. Martin always uses a one piece neck, which is much more costly, but will add to the tone, especially over time.
In the opening 12 seconds, the strum on the Taylor goes progressively towards the bridge thus thinning out the sound. On the Martin the strum is more uniformly positioned thus leaving the sound more open. This is a bad inconsistency since we're looking at just 6 seconds on each guitar. Why play it so differently when we're looking for a comparison? It makes no sense to do this !!!
@@el34glo59 Look again, the very first strum on the Taylor is right over the sound hole, but the next 3 are at the bridge. You can hear the difference so plainly let alone see the guy move his had so obviously towards the bridge.
Mmmm..!! Las dos son buenas guitarras, depende lo que busques es la que tienes que comprar, porque los sonidos son diferentes, pero por un precio mas bajo la ll16 de Yamaha se las lleva en sonido
@@NeyorahGamingonly right answer here. Taylor is much softer in character, Martin more bold. Horses for courses. Do you want velvet stage pants or leather ones. Ok bad analogy, but people have made platinum records with $300 takamines and epiphones because the tool fit the vibe.
I don't see anything wrong with this comparison, Martin invented the dreadnought shape and Taylor the grand auditorium cutaway, so basically he is comparing each manufacture invention. And beside, the title says Taylor 914ce VS Martin D-28, it doesnt say anything about body shapes. And comparing Mcrgregor to Alistair Overeem it's weird yes, until there is an actual fight then its not weird anymore lol
Obviously the d-28 sounds better by far. Although I found a little 200 series Taylor that has a good bottom end, very few of them have got the across the board blend that the Martin has.

Never have enjoyed the sound of a Taylor. When approaching a busker from behind, I’m always confident calling out “Taylor, huh?” before I see the instrument. Not in a good way, at all.
I like martin D28...👍
Martin has the old school dreadnaught sound and Taylor has the clean modern sound.
I love 914’s low strings sound
interesting because Martin is famous for their low string sound!
Not only smooth and tight, but also a bright sound, the 914’s low string sound.
It’s very cool sound

D 28 is "the guitar"...this is the sound of country
Con solo escuchar el primer acorde con la martin D28 se noto una notable diferencia, en esta oportunidad Martin&co esta por sobre Taylor.
At similar prices... I pick the martin...is more my sound
No low end on the Taylor

🤣🤣🤣🤣Martin is king….
..... Bro stop. Taylors do not kill Martins. They're overbuilt. Tjr finish is super thick. There's a reason Taylors tone doesn't change much with age
Maybe your Martin has a problem, strings, dried out....
They are two totally different guitars. No similarities other than the model you like.
MARTIN, period.
The D-28 clearly.
We have a Japanese proverb that translates something like:
Break wind in the face of
He who says he cannot smell
That says it all.
Quite the edifying proverb!
Yes sir, pure truth!
😂
Martin has that sound. The HD-28 is the only guitar anyone will ever need! Taylor's are high pitched due to light strings.
Grand Auditorium vs Dread?
I can get a one year old barely used 914ce for cheap. Should I buy it?
Martin by a mile
by 100.000 miles actually !!!!

Prefer Taylor. But you need to test similar body shapes. That affects the difference in sound, beyond the differences in manufacturing.
914 has tighter sound with more punchy bass and well as high frequency treble. D-28 sounds warmer and smoother.
OMG how the Martin sings

Taylor the best!
I found the Martin very fade in comparison to the Taylor.

New Taylor's just don't do it for me. They don't have much bottom end. For a dreadnaught to be clearer then a GA is pretty sad...
I like how the low end is more prominent in the Taylor sound. I just don't have enough money for either guitar though. 😆
